I was searching online for someone to paint my newly purchased house on Myrtle Beach, SC. I was still in New York, and was planning to move on November 20th, 2024. I wanted the house to be painted by the time we arrived. I went on Angi's List to see if you had painter professionals. I received a response from Andy Lainez, the owner of New Evolution Paint. He said he could do the job for $2,200.00 paint included. I said if he would do a good job, I was willing to pay 2650.00. He agreed. I asked my realtor to let him and his workers in to the house start the work. Andy said he was going to remove the curtain rods over each window, cover the holes with plaster, SAND everything down all over the house, so that there would be no spots or streaks anywhere. He then said he would put all the curtain rods back exactly the way they were. I trusted that he would do the kind of good job that he promised to do, so I used Zelle to transfer the initial $650.00 Nov. 1st. As they were proceeding with the job and sending me photos of the work done, I proceeded to use Zelle for the rest of the payments; another $500 on Nov. 4th, $1000 on Nov. 7th, and finally, after Andy sent me final photos of the installed hooks for the curtain rods back on the wall, I transferred the last $500 to him via Zelle. Only after I did this, I inspected the photos he sent me a little bit closer and realized that the hooks for the curtain rods were placed in completely wrong pattern over the windows. I called Andy to tell him this and he said, when i finally get to Myrtle Beach and see the kind of work that they did, if there's anything I don't like, he would come back and fix it. I said ok. When we finally got to Myrtle Beach and went inside our new house, I noticed lots of spots on the walls in different places around the house, holes in the walls, paint on door knobs, and not only some curtain rod hooks that hve been installed in the wrong locations but some were not installed at all. It then occurred to me that none of the photos that Andy sent to me, while we were still in New York, were meant to show any of that. He lied that he was committed to doing quality work. The first thing I did, when I saw the kind of work they did, was call him asking him when he would come back to finish the job, just to hear him say, only if I paid him another $2000.00, he would come and do it. So, he never came back to fix anything and I realized that I was dealing with someone who did not care at all about the kind of job they left behind. I am very disappointed for making the decision to hire someone without being present at the house to witness the actual work being done. I am hoping, however, that Angi's List will find some sort of an acceptable solution to this whole situation.
