Electrician showed up with an older gentleman who turned out to be just a helper. He was training him while he was here. First thing they came in and asked where was the hanging kitchen fixture I wanted to replace. We had discussed on the phone what I would like to have done on the $99 special offered by Angie's List for three hours of work. I specifically told him I had this fixture for a long time and couldn't afford to pay to get it installed. I told him my old original fixture was from when the condo was built in 1982. It held four bulbs and three of the receptacles had literally burned down. I had one left and could barely see. I told him that it was located on the lower end of a cathedral ceiling and he would need a higher ladder. He said no problem, that they had even very high roofing ladders. He said he didn't have the correct ladder and what else did I want to have done? I reminded him of that specific conversation and asked them if they wanted to come back. He said maybe he could reach it with a regular ladder. He stood on the very top stretching on the tips of his toes and could barely make it. It was nerve wracking to all of us!!! In that position it took a long time and his helper had to hang on to the ladder and him. Then he said this is very time limited and you have the rest of the one and one half hours because there is two of us. I told him I had everything cleared and had bought the outlets and opened bedroom fixture box and wrappings. He told me I already had over my money's worth. He then argued with me that my hall outlet needed changing. I told him my vacuum wouldn't even stay plugged in and it was arching. He said he didn't believe it to bring my vacuum cleaner and show him. So I did and he said wow that is bad. He sent the older man named Lonnie in to do my bedroom fixture which he had to help him with. Then he told me my time ran out. Lonnie acted as a go for and basically told him when lights were out on certain breakers. He kept quoting me prices for each service which I found out later from another electrician were including a trip call for each one. Finally I paid $47.50 more to install two more outlets. The one in my dining room under my front window was as bad as the hall and was next to my front door. It was connected to a switch which was part of three switches. One controlled my porch light, another controlled a spotlight to my feature fireplace and the third controlled the outlets he was replacing. He commented on how badly and dangerously things were tied off. He told Lonnie he didn't understand how people could do work like that. I was sitting right there. After they left I started to put up my Christmas tree and noticed the switch no longer controlled that outlet or anything. I am a widow with very bad knees and loved that feature. Bending behind the decorated tree is difficult to begin with. I called him and he told me I was mistaken! I used an extension cord and forgot about it. I told him I lived here for twenty four years and the only time I use that switch is at Christmas. He said he never makes mistakes and I said well I have and so has everyone else. He said he guaranteed me I was wrong. I was tired of his attitude all along. I told him my dad did all the electrical engineering and specifications for all of the Anheiser Busch factories in the 60s. I helped him like Lonnie and learned enough to know when something is dangerous or isn't right. He said the outlets was replaced right and that if he came out and found nothing wrong he was going to charge me. I said I didn't like that threat of being charged. The upshot was that after a couple more calls he stated I will be there in ten minutes. I told him I had a doctor appointment and was sick which he could hear as I was that bad. He said well it's either right now or much later as I am starting a big commercial project. I said I had a lot of trouble scheduling the appointment. I asked him about another date and he said he couldn't commit as he was not at his office. I told him to please call me with another date. He never followed through and some plugs don't work well in that outlet. He tried to tell me an outlet is wired the same anyway, whether it's connected to a switch or not. I even verified by watching videos on Google and reading posts that is not true. He tried to tell me it was the switch. He got very aggressive in attitude. I did not appreciate his coming unprepared and passing off an older gentleman, Lonnie, who was extremely nice, but obviously not a second qualified electrician and cutting my time in half. I am at poverty level and felt this opportunity was a Godsend.

We had old cement stairs at our side entry without a safety rail and needed wooden stairs to be constructed over the old steps and a safety rail installed. The new entry is easier to use, safer and looks great, too.
