She called three weeks later to check on it, and it still wasn't ready. The following week she received two voicemails saying it was ready. She went to pick up the finished chair on May 21st, 2013. When she went to pay the remaining balance, she noticed an additional charge of $50 that had been added on which was not on the original receipt. The customer service rep said that it was a and quot;tacking charge,and quot; whatever that means. She showed her receipt to the customer service rep and pointed out that no mention had ever been made of any additional charges whatsoever, so this was clearly a deceptive practice. She argued that you just can't add on charges without first discussing it with the customer, but they kept insisting that she had to pay it to get her chair. The woman finally said she would split the difference with her and required she pay $25 extra, on top of the original balance due.
If she had known the job was going to cost $300 instead of $250, she might have done some further comparisons at other upholsterers. So, even though they did a very good job of re-upholstering the chair, the experience of them jacking up the price has left us with a disappointing opinion of the company, which is too bad. For a mere $25 they could have acquired a loyal, repeat customer.
