We hired Steve Baugh from Set In Stone Of Charleston (recommended by Lowcountry Paver) to design and build a paver walkway and 4 flower beds. After our initial visit, Steve never came back to discuss any details or help us design our project. My wife and I ended up trying to make rough drafts with garden hoses. At this point we wanted to get another contractor, but Steve had charged us so much non refundable up front money we could not afford to fire him. Steve then sent a sub contractor over who laid the pavers following the rough draft and included all the imperfections. The walkway was acceptable except for a missing entrance border we had requested on our first meeting. The flower beds were very unprofessional looking. Steve's lack of interest in planning and supervising our project really surprised us and caused a lot of stress. It also cost us several hundred dollars to repair the 3 water lines and a 120 volt electric line severed during installation of the walkway. His insurance would not cover it. We called Set In Stone and asked them to re do our flower beds and partially reimburse us for damages .Steve said he would call us back but never did. Pics; 1) Front of House. The paver outline of the flower beds has no design or definition. They did not even follow the original rough draft we made (see lines drawn inside beds). The pavers are too large for these small beds and should have been cut down to make the tighter curves. The mortar joints are large, sloppy, and have no polymeric sand so the color of the joint makes them stand out. Instead of flowing with the stairs (made by another Hardscaper) they are a distraction and I am embarrassed to have them in the front entrance to my home. Pic 2) The flower beds on each side of the driveway are asymmetrical. One is larger than the other and the mortar joints are large and sloppy with no polymeric sand in the joints to blend things together. They did follow our rough draft on these but as you can see they included all the imperfections. Pic 4) The walkway turned out ok (if you want to forget about the broken water and electric lines) but was missing an entrance border which we had discussed on our first meeting with Steve. Pics 5-6) These last 2 pics (and my personal favorites) show the setup I used to pull 210' of new wire from the garage to the house. After repairing the water lines and replacing the aggregate foundation the water washed out from our new walkway, we got lucky. We were able to use the same conduit the old wire came from and didn't have to replace it!
