About us
The company is co-owned by Rusty Holt and Chris Cochran. Together we bring to the construction and decision process over 40 years of hands on building and business experience. We have worked for the some of the nation’s largest contractors as a superintendent/PM and acted as the project manager and owner’s representative for multimillion-dollar medical complexes. These are just two of the roles we have filled in the industry. In addition, we have met the needs of many individual homeowners. We are each familiar with what it takes to complete a given division of construction at the tradesman level. Our experience over the years has focused on multi-family, single family residential, hospitality, medical offices, light industrial, and, general retail. Projects have included ground up and interior upfits. People ask us, what is your niche. It’s simple, we build. One of the reasons we are successful is our dependable base of sub-contractors can be counted on to show up and do quality work at a competitive price. So pleased with my choice to use Blue Horizon, Rusty was great to work with, he kept me well informed on the schedule work. His crew showed up on time and completed the work that was scheduled for that day. I used most of Rusty suggestions , from the design firm to the cabinet maker. Rusty taught me a lot through this 8 month process of the remodel. When an issue came up( as they often do in a remodel), he always had options to handle the situation. We are very pleased with our “new” house. I don’t think you will find a better company or person to work with. Ask for Rusty.

Rusty and his crew did a wonderful job on my mothers edition onto my house. She has an absolutely beautiful one bedroom apartment with gorgeous 12 foot ceilings and an amazing set of French doors with a huge dome window over the top overlooking the back woods. Rusty was very easy to work with and always responded very quickly. He makes sure you are 100% happy with everything they do. The quality is amazing, and no corners were cut. If I could give more than five stars, I would.! Thank you so much for a job well done!

Blue Horizon with Chris and Rusty did a great job on our remodel / expansion of a 1960s house. The house was gutted down to the studs and built back up. We did this work remotely, relying heavily on Chris' expertise and honesty to keep close tabs on this massive project. We had interviewed several contractors and found Blue Horizon to be the most straightforward and honest about cost, risk and schedule. Impressively, they completed the project pretty much right on schedule and within about 15% of target budget. Most importantly, they stand behind their work even after they leave the job. When we had the inevitable "new home" issues, Chris was right there to work with us on getting it resolved. We remain friends and enjoy sharing a glass of wine with Chris! Highly recommended.

Chris and his team at Blue Horizon did a great job on our 1960's remodel! The previous owner had already done some remodeling, but Chris helped us make it ours. Chris is very knowledgeable and brought some creative and affordable solutions to meet our needs. The front of our home got a lovely facelift, and we completely transformed the backyard into much more usable space for us and our 2 pups! Chris also has a great network of reputable subcontractors for all the more specialized projects, which really came in handy for some other projects we wanted to tackle. Would happily recommend to anyone looking for a GC!

We called, interviewed and reached out to over 25 builders when starting to plan our ground-up build in Old Mount Pleasant. After meeting with several, Chris and Rusty gave us the best price (and were also the most personable). This is our second build so we knew the ropes but I wasn't prepared for the level of communication, keeping us on task and overall organization from Blue Horizon. They did an excellent job telling us when we were going over budget, reminding me of when things needed to be chosen (we didn't hire any outside help or a designer), and generally keeping the project on time. Chris gave his honest opinion and was very forthcoming with all information. I'm happy to say we love the result of our home and made two new friends in the process.

Rusty Holt of Blue Horizon Construction was the general contractor on building a custom home for me and my wife. He consulted with us and coordinated a variety of subcontractors to make our dream home a reality. He provided sources of information to help us to make crucial decisions on the types of fixtures and appliances that needed to go into the home. He was in constant contact with us to inform us of the status of things due to the supply chain slow down of materials. Rusty displayed a customer oriented attitude sprinkled with humor that made him easy and pleasant to work with.

Rusty, our GC was on top of everything and made sure that everything went as smooth as it could. Our satisfaction was his top priority. It was a pleasure working with him and his wife Krissy whom we hired separately to design our kitchen. From start to finish we knew what was happening and what needed to happen. Of course no renovation is easy when living in the home but we made the best of it. Rusty handled all the details which is the reason we wanted a Gc. It was so much more involved than we anticipated so I am so thankful he was there to guide and make sure it was all done to high standards. It did take longer than we anticipated through no fault of the company. It was just the Covid stuff and getting it done through the Holidays. His worker Pancho is amazingly talented, his electricians very friendly and knowledgable. If you’re looking for a GC, Blue Horizon will make sure it is done right. He also came in lower than my other estimates so that was a plus. We are so in love with our kitchen. We love it all, but the kitchen is our favorite. Thanks again Rusty.

We had a guest suite added, master bath full remodel, all new garage interior and several smaller jobs inside the existing house. Rusty and Chris are thorough, fair when issues arise (supply chain is a nightmare currently) and do high quality work. All of their trades are professional and very accommodating which was a massive help considering we lived in the house through the project with 2 kids under 3.

Blue Horizon did an exceptional job as our general contractors for the renovation of our commercial space in downtown Charleston. We converted a commercial space from a retail boutique into a full restaurant and production kitchen. Our space turned out beautifully. Chris and Rusty were always professional and highly responsive. The Blue Horizon team helped me renovate my historic hotel in downtown Charleston. We met with them to review expectations and scope of work. They tirelessly made sure that all of our concerns were addressed and we stayed within budget, even providing weekly progress reports to our ownership. To take on a project of our size, it required several meetings from the management company or the owners and each time Blue Horizon attended each meeting with answers. Before they presented us with an issue, they already had a solution in place as a recommendation. I'd recommend them for both commercial and residential as I've built a trust with them and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.
