Review of Tweedy’s Heating and Air McClellanville SC Overal: Poor, created damage to house and an unhealthy environment due to incorrect installation, added electrical cost all due to shortcuts and cost cutting tactics. Had Tweedy’s heating install a new air conditioner after the one that was in use for 15 years and finally needed replacement. After installation, problems started before the first year ended. A coil needed replacement, parts would take about a week to arrive. Was replaced, and charged for Freon, even though the part was defective. So I paid half, which was more than I should of paid. The next problem was the drip pan was not centered correctly. Because of this, the air conditioner leaked into the bedroom under the unit and caused ceiling damage. Tweedy did not accept responsibility nor did he offer to even help pay for damage that was directly related to this incorrect placement of the drip pan. Here is the list of other areas of problems causing damage, increased electricity cost and unhealthy air in the home. These issues also caused the unit to be very inefficient and probable led to its early failure and need for replacement 1 The ductwork on the air handler was just taped on which is incorrect. There was a 4 inch gap on the underside. This caused the hot air from the attic as well as dust to be sucked in and ended up in the house, creating additional dust, higher electric bill and generally unhealthy air. This was happening for the entire time since installation 2 The power and thermostat wires went into the air handler thru a sharp cut ho,e into the air handler. There was not a romex connector to protect the wires from being cut on the sharp edge. 3 Air handler was sitting on untreaded 2X4 wood blocks in the drip pan 4 The primary drain line was not insulated causing it to condensate and drip on the attic floor causing damage to the attic floor. 5 The uv light(air gorilla) that was added was held in place by duct tape. No screws or mastic was used as proper installation stated 6 There were no seals around the suction and liquid copper lines which caused air leakage

Owner is very professional, respectful and takes pride in the work. They showed up on time, did quality work and cleaned up after themselves. I am very happy with their work and would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

I was having issues with my outside unit short cycling when it initially came on.  It heated and cooled correctly, but I knew the short cycling was not correct.  I live in McClellanville so I decided to try Tweedy's (hoping to get quicker service with them being local.)  I contacted them at lunch time on Sunday via their online form.  Within two hours I had an email response stating they could come out on Monday.  When they arrived Monday the heating unit functioned properly and did not short cycle (my luck, can't duplicate the problem) but they checked everything out and fixed a few minor issues.  I was charged $80 for the service call.  I understand if you can't see/find the problem you can't fix the problem.  I also knew and expected to pay a flat service fee for them coming out.  I thought $80 was very reasonable (I actually expected to pay over $100.)  Due to the promptness of their response to my service request, the speed in which they came out and what seems to be fair pricing, I will definitely use them again in the future.  I hope my heating and air never fails, but if it does and I have actual repairs done I will update my review.

Initially, I thought, 'wow, Jon is a great southern guy who has his stuff together.' He claims to be all about the customer and offering the cheapest and best labor...which may be true, but he also leaves the job incomplete. He hooked up my system and left. Thinking that everything was good, i didnt inspect the attic as closely as i should have before he left. When he hooked up my main unit in the attic, he didnt not align the air header up with the unit correctly, in fact, it was off by about 8 inches. Instead of doing the job right, probably because it was the dead heat of summer, he just put one layer of duct tape to cover the hole...obviously this is not insulated or anything and over time it will wear and i will have cold air cooling off my attic allowing my electric bill to sky-rocket. Another thing, when he was doing an initial inspection, they took off insulation around the refrigerant lines, and NEVER replaced it. I noticed all of this because i had water damage in a bed room from the leaking condensation off the refrigerant line. When I called Jon to come fix it, he was sorry and was going to come do it right, but that was just an empty promise as he never showed up or returned calls again. All of this occurred three days before i was deploying, so i had to come up with a quick fix myself so i didnt leave my wife with the problem. consequently, it still isnt done right.
I will say, he responded quickly when our AC broke on a Friday afternoon and he got it at least working by Sunday. He is a hard worker, but I just wish the work he did was complete! I would pay an extra 1000 to have it done RIGHT the first time and avoid the headache...cheap prices isnt everything particularly when you have to do rework yourself.
Response from Tweedy's Heating and Air LLC
"I would like to mention that the duct work was existing duct work which was not correct from the date the home was built! Our company was hired to replace the system only at a very fair price with no other work in proposal being selected,we can make suggestions but cannot force anyone to spend more money this was a miss communication by us and the home owner! Were a growing company because we do care about the customer which is obvious in the fact we have almost 10 years word off mouth, lessons learned is we do not take jobs anymore that we no will not operate correctly unless all work we express needs to be done is how the job gets done."

We have a house built in 1997 and A/C units have been struggling in summer heat the past few years. One of the two 2-ton units appeared to finally die in June and I had recommendation from my pest control guy for John Tweedy of Tweedy's Heating and Air Conditioning. John is self-employed and get's his business by word of mouth, which I am happy to do for him in this case. I called John Monday morning and he re-arranged his schedule to meet me after work. He showed on time and I was immedialy impressed by his courteous nature and knowledge about our system based on similar systems he had worked on in our (Centex) neighborhood. Of course the diagnosis was dire and I knew I'd be plopping some money down. John quoted me $3,500 for install of a 2-ton Coleman system. Apparently, the Coleman systems are 85% made in America, versus other units made/assembled overseas, which was somewhat of a selling point for me. A signifcant selling point was the unit has a 10 year warranty. I had quote for about $4,200 for Trane from another reputable Angies List company, but John has had very good history with these units and I felt I would just be paying for the brand since the units both had the same warranty. We decided on an install date a few days later and he had it installed and even fixed some other items on the other unit's handler in the attic within about 4 hours. Unit cooled well for first few days, but one hiccup that wasn't John's fault, was an incorrectly installed factory valve for an adapter unit that was the source of a leak. After a few days, the unit had lost enough refridgerant to not cool properly. One phone call to John and he immediately responded and fixed the unit. He was extremely apologetic even though it was not his fault, but you can tell and see through his work that John is proud of his work and does not like problems regardless. Though a one person small business, John is a true professional and I highly recommend him for his quality of work and responsiveness. Price was a bonus as most people, including myself, simply want a quality product and great customer service a reasonable price. We got it all and more with John Tweedy!
