A couple of years back MC electric had added a hood over my stove top, connecting the wires but never covering it. Its still not covered today. I had called American home shield because I have been concerned over flickering lights in my home (as our Fairfield electric advised us to call an electrician) I called MC electric. After all they installed that part and I could get that covered but maybe have a couple of outlets put in as well (make it more worth their while). Both seem like nice enough guys but no work ever gets done. The first employee took a manner of a couple minutes to determine all of our house wiring is fine. Doubting that I figure I would call back the owner to be on the safe side. I asked if maybe this employee could install a couple of outlets for me, and he couldnt give a price without the owner (only a range).
I finally settled on asking him if he can simply install this oven appliance light for me (which insulation had come off) and he said, sure, no problem). The light sort of rattles around in there (as if not secured) I asked if that was okay, he said yeah. I called Amercan home shield last week because of a fan in my atrium is seizing up for whatever reason. They assigned MC electric. I thought good, I can request the owner, and also request for what I wanted done in that last visit (with that other employee) to do just one outlet and simply put a cover on his work from a few years back.
He couldn't do the work I called American home shield for, he had to transfer it. He never saw the kind of whole house fan I have in his whole 20 years. I thought, fine, transfer that through American Home to another company but can you please put a cover over your old wiring job and install an outlet right beside the electrical box in the garage?
No, because he is no "equipped" (as an electrician?) The owner of a company does have such basics (of equipment) with him to do so. My ex brotherinlaw lives in Florida, he is an electrician and always carried with him the basics, and it was the morning hours (and told him beforehand).
Besides the point he also had other jobs in other areas (to do this to?). All the jobs to be done that day (combined) or separately were either something too difficult for him to do (like the fan, understandable) and the others, either too time consuming (to flip on a cover over his other incomplete job) or install one outlet (a couple of feet from the actual box. Even though (both times) when I called to schedule I expressed that additional work to be done. I believe I spoke with his wife? (or secretary?) I don't know who she might be ( but she sounds so thrilled to be answering the phone) when it actually gets answered. Cant be the size of the jobs because it seems more like living off the service call fees but never actually doing anything, and yet we keep paying his company service fees (through American home to do nothing) not much through them and not a thing more then I would hire them for.
I mean we had an oven light screwed in by the last guy (thats about all he could do) without Mike. Yet I cant even get a cover over the wiring job on the hood Mike connected (which steam hits). Mike had did a few years back. Trying to get an outlet installed so I can get our refrigerator bought and relocated has taken a month (and still isnt happening). How hard is an outlet for crying out loud? I called before to arrange it asking for that work to be done through two separate service calls. This last one I specifically asked for Mike (the owner) and made it at his own convenience (when he would be in Blythewood) my area. And I do that as a courtesy to these guys to make it worth their trip. Im not out to make anyones life difficult but easier for them. Im have had it with all contractors, right now.
And I asked him before he left if he intends to come back (having given me an estimate for one outlet FOR LATER) but after reading these reviews (and seeing my own experience with MC electric) I highly doubt I will see him for anything but whatever service call I might get stuck with him through American Home shield (and I will protest their assignment) and explain why. Nice guy (or seems so anyway) they are the hardest to write a bad review for because you want to believe the best about them.
But heres the strange part (and for the record) because he already knew he wasn't going to install my outlet in my garage, which is behind our bedroom closet. He asked me whats behind this wall here? I said nothing really, your fine, its the bedroom closet and you cant hit anything. You cant because its empty there because there is a secret compartment behind it.
Now we honestly dont have anything so secret (or of value behind it) but thats just what the previous owner built into the home because maybe he did? I couldnt tell you.
He asked to see this secret compartment, and I asked him why because its just drywall, about 18 inches deep (and empty) because nothing is there, its just like a larger space behind the wall (nothing he could damage). I don't understand why that needed to be examined, especially when I dont believe he had ever intended to do the work (and again) for the second time. Why should that space matter for work that will not get done?
I had to get it on paper by him (Im learning) that whatever code violation I am being sold in my garage where the bladder tank is located (for our well) is okay by Mike. Because its not okay by a couple of other contractors.
What I will have to do is have this looked at by an electrician outside the sphere of American Home shield by an electrician highly reccomended by those in my neighborhood on Angies list.
This place has been a life saver (thanks to the others voices on this) I wont waste my time calling again, I guess I can see where this is going and I really would like to find the source of my flickering lights (and be out of danger) and would like to have an outlet installed (simply put) its not too difficult a thing.
P.S I feel its unfair for Angies list to add (in this review) that MORE WEIGHT should be given to a customers testimony where A WORK was performed because every call to MC electric was specifically FOR work TO BE performed and the provider doing nothing includes what was something that was half @ss done (a couple of yeas back, three visits ago, not included in the price paid). So that IS exactly what you will be paying FOR (nothing). Thats a description of THE WORK.
Had I called an electrician OUTSIDE of my home warranty something BASIC could possibly get done.
I am starting to believe this home warranty deal is just for contractors who cant get work on their own (for what now appears as obvious reasons). Maybe I will get lucky run across an electrician who carries an electric outlet cover in his van? Or possibly have a minute or two TO COVER over another mans work (the other can seem to complete). One is just a cover (mind you) to be placed over his exposed wiring job (a code violation of his own) so his passing that other code violation (other contractors have called it) is not a violation to MC electric, but he lets his own fly by so how much merit can I give his word on it? See what I mean?
Here today to find a decent electrician outside of American Home shield and use my neighborhoods voice from here on out because finding a decent contractor seems impossible these days.
1st appointment: LATE ( I had to go back to work, so I rescheduled)
2nd appointment: LATE (I had to go back to work, so rescheduled for a firm time commitment)
3rd appointment: LATE ( Called and completely canceled)
Never once was I apologized to or even given an excuse.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.
