The floor was 3/4" too low to match the height of the rest of the house. When I told him the floor needed another 3/4" and he added a layer of 3/4" plywood ,which he added to our bill with labor, as an add on. I think he should have included the plywood because he missed the height of the floor in the first place.
The area where the new floor meets the existing was left very rough and a gap of 11/2" wide and 24" long was left unfinished. I had to arrange for someone to finish rough areas and the gap before the flooring could be installed. The flooring was not included in the quote. He did not install any baseboards which I thought he should have also included.
There was another door with water damage. The repair was to be included in the project from the start. When I asked him why it wasn't mentioned in the contract he said he intended to ”just throw it in.” I had to remind him that it still needed repair. He added on the rotten wood repair at $600 which included a new door and frame. I reminded him that he was to "throw in" the door repair but he insisted that that didn't include a door and that he planned only to replace the rotten siding. If he missed the fact that it would need a new door, it was not because of anything we did. I told him to never mind the door repair and he wanted me to pay for the door he had ordered at $300.
There was a misunderstanding over who was to pay for the siding. Looking back, he asked me about the siding, I thought he meant " was it available" and I said "yes right up at Lowes." He apparently thought I was going to provide it. When it came up he asked if I wanted him to get the siding and I answered yes. I couldn't imagine why he would not automatically get it. When I saw the final bill he had added in $300 for the siding. I asked why so much and he said he had bought 8 sheets Which was over double what was needed.
When it was all said and done, we felt like he had charged premium prices but delivered only mediocre quality and didn't really finish the job. His multiple add-ons seemed like a scam/trick to get more money.

Regarding the response from JAB Construction
I disagree with the accuracy several of his statements.
"[member name removed], It is very unfortunate that you chose to place a negative review without reaching out with your displeasure. This is the first I have heard of any issues with my work. But since you waited 6 months and felt that you could not reach out to me....I will tell my side. When working with older homes and remodeling there are sometimes challenges. The floor and ceiling you mentioned were installed correctly. At some point in your homes 35+ year history someone has replaced the flooring in your home with a laminate hardwood. It is common in this application for flooring companies to raise the floor level 1/2" to 3/4" under the thin laminate to match other flooring areas. In your case they were trying to match your tile kitchen. The structure I built matched subfloor level as the home was built and you were made aware and understood that your flooring guy would have to do the same and you understood. When your flooring guy didn't feel like doing this I offered to take care of it for you and charged you for the amendment to the original contract which was minimal. The ceiling issue was corrected on site once it became obvious that there was an issue. As for the baseboard which totaled less than 10', I recommended that you have your flooring installed first and then to give me a call and I would place the baseboard to give a cleaner finish. I have not received a call. We originally talked about replacing the siding damage around the exterior door and this was included in the contract. As we got to this repair it was my recommendation to replace the entire door to get a better finish and not just replace the brick mould that was rotten. A quote or change order was issued in advance in which you approved. I ordered the door and planned to make the proper fixes as discussed. I then received a call from my supplier who noted that you had rejected delivery of the door in which you still have not paid for. Upon contact you noted that you decided not to do the repair and I have purchased a door that I have no use for. And finally, it is plainly listed in our original contract that you were to supply the T-111 siding for this job and you on more than one occasion mentioned that you had plenty of this siding stacked in your shop. When I requested the siding to complete our work, you advised me to go ahead and purchase what I needed as you didn't know if you had enough. Since this cost was not included in the original contract it is common practice for you to pay for the materials used. 8 sheets were purchased and used on your job. This is a lap siding and even though you may think 4 sheets is enough, it was not. In order to match laps in the siding there is a greater waste factor. It is once again unfortunate that you feel like paying for changes to a contract is a scam and it is more unfortunate that you chose to air your displeasure behind closed doors and not by reaching out to me personally. I find it more disturbing that you on multiple occasions mentioned the quality and workmanship of my guys who were working on your job and then turn around and discredit their work. I am available at any time if you feel you need to talk. I stand behind my work 100%"
