When the landlord refused to fixed the property I had to leave because I had been so sick. I told the landlord that I could not afford to pay some back rent I had previously owed him since I was being forced out so quickly and unexpected. I ask him to give me a good reference. To replace the back rent I offered to leave a shed, a new refrigerator and stove I had purchased when I moved in because the home did not have those things. Those item would have well covered the back rent owed. The landlord He said he didn't need them but would give me a good reference as long as I would not contact the SC real estate commission about the mold. After moving into the new property I realized I had taken the black mold with me and that I had cross contaminated. The mold from the crawl space of the old property had actually come up through the floors and was on the bottoms of my furniture and mattresses (I took pictures). I was forced to get rid of most of our furniture and personal belongings (lost all of our books too...including college books) Is was like an invisible fire. After about six months of pure h*** trying to replace and clean our property and while being so sick myself, I went to talk to an attorney about suing Cauthen and Patterson because we had lost everything, not including the expenses of having to more unexpectedly, medical and MRI bills. (by the way they found eight lesions on sons brain right after we moved out of the toxic home) (toxic mold is what is used to make bio-warfare) Now....remember almost six months has past. The day after I went and talked to an attorney about suing this firm I get a knock on my door with a note saying that the firm is suing me for back rent. Clearly someone went and told this firm I was talking to an attorney and that they had better sue me first. I of course did go get an attorney and we countered sued. I wrote a letter to the new tenants to warn them about what they were living in and Cauthen and Patterson are now trying to sue me for slander. Of course it is only slander if isn't true. They just told me yesterday that they would drop the charges if I would drop mine. My attorney recommend I take the deal. I declined their offer told them I'd see them in court.
Description of Work: Rented a home to me that was full of toxic mold. The 24,000.00 I spent was just for the rental price of the property over a four year period, so that amount does not included the money I had to spend replacing all my our personal belongings, doctor bills and now high insurance costs due to sicknesses as a result. The landlord/firm refused to clean up the toxic mold, lay down and vapor barrier and or repair the leak in the service line or repair the leaks in the home which were improperly fixed (and it was confirmed by a plumber we had to hire) . I show the firm my skin rash, the letter from the plumber and exterminator about what needed to be done and the landlord said "no, he was not going to clean the mold up for us because he had just spent 200.00 cutting down a tree on the property." The real estate firm continues to rent out the property and now the current family living in the house is sick and their child has MRSA. MRSA is a bacteria but it is found where there is toxic mold. So the two issues of fungal and bacteria are indeed indirectly related concerning the reason people get so sick living in the property. Before we left the property we had samples taken from the crawl space (where the toxic mold was found) from a licensed state home inspector and he told us that he had never seen toxic air spore counts that high before. Please beware of this firm.
