Window World of the Lowcountry
About us
Then... Window World was founded in 1995 by Leon Whitworth. The office was a small roadside stand in Wilmington, NC. It didn’t look like much but, Leon had big plans for this company. He wasn’t going to be like everyone else in the home improvement business. He wasn’t going to do things like they had always been done. A slick salesman shows up at your house, gives a three hour presentation, starts his price at $1,000 or even $1,200 per window, creates bogus discounts, and tries to high pressure you into paying ridiculously high prices. The other end of the spectrum is the guy who has cheap prices along with an inferior product that won’t last very long. Leon knew to be successful he couldn’t do any of these things. The Window World way would be simple, provide superior products, installed by professional craftsmen, with guaranteed low prices, simply the best for less. What more could anyone want? Window World partnered itself with the best window manufacturers in the world. They use state of the art equipment and only the best materials available. Now... That small roadside stand has now grown into more than 240 Window World offices in 45 states, and is still growing. We are now one of the largest home improvement companies in America. Each location is locally owned and operated. This insures each customer that his or her project gets the individual attention it deserves. Our owners and their personnel receive in depth training on a monthly basis to keep them on the leading edge of the industry. At Window World we know the job yesterday will land us the job down the street tomorrow. We do our best on every job, everyday.

Window World installer, Danny, arrived, November 25, 2015, to install windows. The Problems:
- 1. He was installing window world's only window product, retro-fit plug windows which uses the existing wood frame exterior wood molding, existing wood sill (That I wanted to replace) to install another window and frame. Also the lower 4 were to short by 2.5 inches. Unacceptable.
- 2. These window product were never an option for me because: 1) It leaves the wood components I wanted replaced. 2) It makes the glass area smaller. 3) reduces the resale value of the property. I immediately stopped the installation and instructed Danny to stop installation and put my original windows back. He refused saying, "It was only temporary until his boss decided what to do". Later found out he could not put back the original windows because the the damage done in the installation process.
- Called Brad, Owner, Monday 23 Nov and after long lenghty he said we said told me he would get back to me with a proposal.
- Since the above 23 Nov phone call, I have called 3 times to try and contact Brad, after I announced who I was he never seemed to be available, out on a job, father sick in, Holiday season.... I have since sent a certified letter requesting my money be returned (available upon request) and it was delivered Dec 15 2015. I have called 4 time since, still no response from Brad of Window World.
To summarize communication BAD; product WRONG SIZE; NO customer service. Would not use again for anyting.
from Window World of the Lowcountry at 213 University Blvd. Ladson, SC owned by
Brad and Amanda on July 3, 2014. I was
told that it would take 4-6 weeks for the windows to come in, and then I would
receive a phone call from the office to schedule a day and time to install
them. I had to pay half of the price
upfront which was $1,600. At the end of
August, about 8 weeks later, I had not heard anything. I called and was told that my windows were
supposed to be on the truck that just arrived that day. My windows were not there. I was told that they would check into it and
call me back. I waited another 2 weeks
and had not heard anything, so I called back to find the status of my
order. I was told that my windows would
be in next week and I would be notified.
My windows had finally arrived and I scheduled to have my
windows installed the Monday of the second week in September. Monday it rained so I had to reschedule for
Thursday. I was told that the installers
would be there at 10:00 AM. They showed
up at 11:15 AM with no phone call. It
was 2 men an older gentleman and a younger gentleman who appeared to be in
training. They took out all of my
windows and put 3 of the 5 windows back in.
Not installed, just placed in the holes.
That is when the older gentleman, Jeff, told me he had to leave to pay a
traffic ticket. He said his supervisor, Jay,
was coming to work until he came back.
Jay showed up and Jeff left. Then
Jay left without saying a word to me. He
left the trainee and no work was being done.
During that time the trainee managed to rip a shelf out of the wall and
break a picture frame. I waited about an
hour and a half and called Window World.
I spoke with Brad, the owner. I
explained the situation and he told me to hang on he will get someone back
there. At that point Jay comes
back. The job should have been done at
this point but it is not even close.
Jeff returns and Jay leaves. The
job does not get done that day. Jeff
tells me that he will be back first thing in the morning, 7:00 AM, to finish
the job. Jeff calls in the morning and
tells me he has to go to another job and he should be at my house by 3:00
PM. 3:30 PM comes and I have not heard
anything. I call Window World and speak
with Angie. Angie gets in touch with Jay
and Jay calls me. Jay promises me that
first thing Saturday morning my job will be finished. No one showed up all weekend. Over the next 2 weeks I spoke with 2 left
message with 2 people at Window World and 2 voicemails for Brad. Brad never returned my calls. It was not until the fifth time, on a
Thursday, I called and told them that I was going to retain an attorney if Brad
does not call me back that day. Window
World still had $1,600 of my money and the job was not finished. After I said that Brad became available to
talk. He scheduled the job to be done
the next day, Friday. Jeff came back and
brought the wrong equipment and was unable to complete the job. He came back 8 days later on a Saturday to
complete the job. A 1 day job took 3
weeks to complete.
At this point Brad called me, when it came time for
payment was the only time Brad reached out to me. He said he would take 10% of off the
remaining balance as compensation for my inconvenience. After a quick back and forth he gave me 20%
off of my remaining balance. I will not
be using or recommending Window World in Charleston anymore.
The next morning we were ready by 9:00 am, had the animals in their spots and the one in his crate. We got a call from the crew at 9:00 am saying they had to finish a job in Charleston before coming to do ours and they would be here around 11:00. I appreciated the call, but not the 2 hour delay. They finally arrived closer to noon and got to work. They worked for about an hour and 1/2, then took a break for lunch and didn't return for 3 hours. They finished up sealing the windows and installed the storm door. The handle was installed upside down and the kick plate was at least an inch off the ground. When I asked about it, I was told that's how they had to do it. I tried to call the office, but being a Saturday, the office was closed. A 5 or 6 hour job took all day and caused our animals to be restrained for 12 hours instead of the 5 or 6 it should have taken. I was told by the sales rep that someone would come to the job site while it was going on just to make sure everything was going smoothly. That never happened. Being Memorial Day weekend, I had to wait until Tuesday, the 27th to call the office. I was told someone would call me back later in the day. By the next day they hadn't called, so I called back. They scheduled a repair guy to come out on Wednesday, June 4th. He arrived on time and was very helpful and courteous. He fixed the handle and the kick plate, but in order to lower the kick plate to a somewhat acceptable level, it left the original screw holes exposed. So now I have a $700 storm door with two holes in it. The repair guy told me to use the door for a week and to call the office and let them know if it was working good or not. I did that and the office was very confused about why I was calling. I told the girl that the door was working properly, but I wanted to know what they were going to do about my brand new expensive door that now has two holes in it because of their mistake. I was told someone would call me back. No one called me back. I gave them a week, then called back again. Once again I was told someone would call me back. Today is Aug 18th and I'm still waiting for that call.
I also don't like that the crew hands you an evaluation page that you are to fill out while he watches. That puts the client in a very awkward position and it's very difficult to be honest with your evaluation. I didn't even mention that the guy broke our blind while demonstrating the windows just because he was in a hurry and was careless.
So, in general, I would use them again because the product is good, the prices are reasonable and the financing process is fairly painless, but the crew needs more supervision and polishing and just be aware that if there is an issue, you will never get a call back.
The finish work of that crew is not acceptable - even the owner agreed and he has agreed to have the exterior work completely redone. 11 days ago he left my home saying he would be in touch. I called today and left a message on their voice mail. I am waiting for a call to schedule work. will update after next phase.
Aug. 1st - owner came to my house to review work. He stated that the work "was crap". he agreed that he would have a new crew come out and totally redo all exterior work and fix/correct interior caulking. He or someone from his office would contact me to schedule.
Aug 12th and 13th I called and left messages for Brad- the owner - to call me so I could find out when we could get on the schedule to complete the work. Never heard from him. Aug 15th, I called again and spoke with Angie - explained my frustration and didn't know why communication from window world is almost non existent. She took the liberty to schedule me - since neither the installation manager nor the owners would follow up. I was scheduled for Sept 4th and 5th to have all wrapping and caulking redone.
Sept 4th came - I called to see if I was still on schedule - and no- they wouldn't make it to my house that day. Friday the 5th - they came and realized how big of a job it was and din't have replacement parts with them. (list of what was needed was not communicated between departments.)
Another contact person called me to let me know they wanted to reschedule again so they could do all the work at one time.
I am waiting to be contacted today - Monday 9-8- to set up another install day.
"Thank you for your positive review. I hope you enjoy the many benefits to your new windows."
If you plan on replacing windows in your home look beyond this company. Not recommended.
"I am sorry to hear of the challenges with the schedule. I was aware of the issues at the time and can assure you that we have addressed the problems internally. I hope, despite the trouble, you are happy with the end result. Please contact my office if I can do anything more for you. I truly am sorry for the negative experience."
The initial install 7 years ago was pain free and fast, but to be able to call 7 years later with no hassle and get a replacement that is priceless.
"Thank you for the great review! We are all pleased to hear that your experience was so positive. Please contact us if there is anything more we can do for you."
Also the costing of each part of the window was clearely spelled out so you knew exactly what you were purchasing and the add ons, they just didn't say this will cost you x and not know how they got to x.
I hope the installation goes as great as the original meeting.
Once piece of advice charleston country hurricane regulations will increase the costs. Also if you have an old home be prepared to pay extra because of led-based paint in the windows.
