The one good suggestion that was made by the vet when discussing my diabetic cat is that I can purchase a glucose monitor calibrated for pets so that I can do a glucose curve at home. This avoids inaccurate and unhelpful curves done at vet offices due to the stress.
Last month my dog had a horrible hot spot that grew from a minor irritation to an oozing sore in 2 days. I called in hopes of walking in with him because hot spots get worse very quickly. The receptionist told me they were unable to see me and would not be able to make an appointment for at least 3 days! Even after expressing the urgency, she didn't even put me on hold to ask the doctor.
I rew the day I ever walked into this place! For a holistic practice, they LOVE drugs. My dog went in for a routine dental cleaning and ended up DEAD….AND they charged me $637.00 for the privilege. One suggestion for all: Do your own research and proceed with extreme caution before ever giving your pet Buneprenorphine for pain. It has serious and deadly side effects. For herbs or little accupuncture, this practice might be fine, but for any condition even slightly more serious, RUN- don’t walk- to another veterinary practice as FAST AS YOU CAN. You won’t be sorry and your furbaby will live to thank you for it!
We have been going to Dr. Ruth since late in 2009, when she was still building her practice. In those days we had just 2 dogs and a cat, and later added another dog. We loved the hands on and personal attention by Dr. Ruth, and in those days, by Renata, her partner, who is very caring.
The business has turned into just that-another business. No longer were we getting any personal attention from Ruth, much to our dismay.
My final straw for this business came over Thanksgiving, when they were closed from Wednesday afternoon to Monday, with no covering vet. It seems like they close more often than other practices.
My cat seemed like he was getting some kind of upper respiratory infection and was not eating well or breathing well. I had to take him to another vet where I found out, 3 days later, he had lung cancer. Within 2 weeks he had died. I called Sun Dog Cat Moon's receptionist to ask about euthanizing my cat in her garden. Caroline, the receptionist was very indifferent ( she has always seemed bored and or uninterested in her job, in fact she never remembers who we are and we had 4 animals there as patients) , and I explained my sad story about my cat (who was very loved and treasured). She said that the doctor was busy but MAYBE she could call me back at the end of the day. Oh my god! I have a cat that is dying and maybe she can call me back? In any event, Caroline the horribly insensitive and compassion-less girl called me back and asked me-first off ' So you wanted information on putting your cat down?' I was fully speechless with this horribly insensitive remark, then I gathered my tongue and said ' I can't believe you could be so callous'! She did not say a word-no apology-and then said that they had been getting daily reports on my cat.
Are you kidding me???? And you did not even call or email me to see how I was???? Or if you could do anything?
I want and need a vet who cares about my animal family. I am so hurt by this experience, and am ashamed for Dr. RUTH. She never struck me before as such a callous and unfeeling person. I guess this is what happens when medicine turns into big business.
