We chose Classic primarily because of their previous reviews in Angie?s list, and their proximity to us. After we signed with Classic, they assigned a lead designer to work with us to develop ideas and concepts. He provided valuable expertise on the best arrangement in a limited space, accompanied us when deciding on materials and appliances, obtained all the needed permits, and then checked in on a regular basis while the work was being performed.
When the work began, they assigned a lead carpenter and project manager. Once the work began, the work continued without interruption until finished. I was impressed with the quality of the carpentry and finishing.
If there was an area of difficulty it was that some of Classic?s suppliers let them down. However, Classic took full ownership of the issue, and saw to it that the job they were assigned was finished properly. The result of these issues was only a small delay.
In summary, we could not be happier with the final product. We would recommend Classic without reservation, particularly for a relatively large and complex such as the one we had.
I got daily updates. Every time the projects came in on time and did not have a cost overrun. After a rain storm I saw a little bit of gutter overrun with water trickling behind a light fixture and they came out the next day to fix it.
I've waited this long to review to see how the work has held up. Well, after the record-setting rainy February, I can say that my
house is completely water tight and the stain/paint jobs look great.
I will definitely use them again if my house needs work in the future.
Trust, communication, and reliability became key components in our decision. When you read my list of Do's and Don't's you will get a good idea of why we are so pleased with Bob Flemming and the entire Classic Remodeling team. Bob provided us with skilled design service, allowed us the freedom to define key elements, understood the infrastructure decisions that would be required, guided us in all the decison making, prepared an extremely detailed bid, and when we were finished the job was on budget and done on the very day specified when we signed the contract. Every week I could look at a log book and see which craftspersons had been on site and what they had done.
Now 5 years later our kitchen, which gets plenty of use, looks new. Everything was well designed and engineered for practical use, the quality of the materials and workmanship has passed the test of time, any small concern we had was rapidly remedied, and we are now using Classic for a bath remodel. Our 2nd project was small but equally well executed.
Best advice I can give is that remodeling is complicated and you should choose a contractor who can look at the job and understand the implications of what you are trying to accomplish. That ability translates to a valid design, accurate pricing, on-time delivery, satisfied clients, and undisturbed neighbors. Classic Remodeling has been in business many years and we never worried that our money would disappear or that the workers would not show up because they were not being paid. Remodeling contracting is a serious business and requires serious business leadership as well as an eye for color and design.
We are proud to be among the many Classic fans. Bottom line. Projects almost always cost more than you hope. The key is knowing the full extent of those costs up front. Then you can make good design decisions. A low bid, followed by tons of change orders, is not a low bid.
The Classic Remodleing team did what we wanted, did it on time, did it on budget, and it was/is a pleasure working with them.
During the projects, they were there on time every day and they cleaned up the work area better than I do when I'm working on a several day project. I really feel like they respected my house and our life outside of the remodel job. We did have one small delay with something that didn't come in on time but that's just part of doing projects with quality materials you can't find at the local home improvement store. I've never seen any construction project that didn't have some delays but they were on top of it and at least they communicated what was going on and what they were doing to speed it up. Again, I didn't have any bad surprises which I like. My neighbor, a very particular engineer, even walked over during construction and saw how they were building and was impressed with the quality so much he asked them to come look at a project. He's a tough cookie to please so I felt good about the quality even more.
We had one small item we didn't like after the completed job which was a doorknob. It wasn't bad, we just didn't like the way it worked. When we were asked if everything was good on followup, I felt bad even mentioning something so small but I did anyway and they had someone come over within two days and replace it with another one that suited us. My past experience with other contractors is more like call 10 times, wait two weeks and someone might show up for warranty work. Classic was all about making sure we were completely happy even after they had my money and were gone. You don't find that attitude very often today so it is refreshing.
We couldn't be happier with the quality of the new remodel and the experience we had with Classic. They really were great to work with and everyone was so professional. I had heard great things about them and it was wonderful to see that they lived up to their reputation. I will definitely use them again and recommend them without hesitation.
We felt throughout the project that they were at least as concerned as we were that everything be right and are impressed by their policy to revisit the project in six months or so to see how it wears and take care of anything that shows up with use. We feel like we have a lot of new friends after this project and will not hesitate to call Classic Remodeling for our next project.
