Charleston Cleaners was shown a cashmere sweater with wine stains on it and asked if they could dry clean it. After inspecting the stains and the area of the sweater around them, they said they had an expert in dry cleaning cashmere sweaters and would do their best. When the sweater was returned after cleaning, it had 2 holes in it in places very near to the wine stains. When Charleston Cleaners was shown the holes in the sweater, they said that the holes resulted from mold or mildew that was on the sweater when it was given to them which had reacted with the dry cleaning process. The owner herself, who was also the alleged expert in cleaning cashmere, provided this explanation. They refused to do anything; not even refund the price for dry cleaning. They did not point out any mold or mildew on the sweater when they inspected it at the time it was given to them for cleaning. In fact, the sweater had no mold or mildew on it, nor holes, when it was given to them for cleaning. Online resources state that dry cleaning is a good way to remove mold and mildew from clothing. Charleston Cleaners accepted no responsibility for causing the holes and lied about the effect of dry cleaning on mold and mildew on clothing. They also did not get the wine stains out.
