Carney & Son 72 Degrees

I would not trust this company. We hired them to install 2 new systems in our home. We explicitly told them what kind of a system we wanted for our air conditioner, having a variable speed fan that would run on low most of the time and remove humidity from the air and only come on high in extreme heat. We described the system we had previously. They agreed, quoted some options. I kept asking for a detailed quote, but they would not specify the system such as model, seer rating, etc. They detailed aspects of their work such as the scope of the job, but not model numbers. One of the guys came in with a tablet and had my wife sign something that she did not even know what she was signing, just wanted her signature. She trusted them and signed. They removed our equipment and we were in the middle of moving in a house. We had little choice and decided to trust them after the warranty company hung us out to dry. After calling wanting to know why our system did not ever seem to run on low, they came out and tried to pretend they did not know what was going on. He told us, "it meets specifications." Finally, after asking the tech to demonstrate the unit running on low, he told us it did not because it was not designed to. It turns out our heat pump upstairs has 2 speeds and they tried to trip us up in a bunch of technical nonsense and convince us that they installed what we asked for. Why would anyone in SC be asking for a variable stage heater in August when their air conditioner is broke? Seriously, if there was any confusion, it should have been the AC Contractor's job to clear that up if there was any possibility of miscommunication. We spoke to one of the Owners about it and he was rude and condescending. I would never hire these guys again.

Bradlee and John did a great job of replacing the system. They arrived on time and completed the work as estimated. Everyone I have worked with at Carney & Son has been helpful and friendly.

Chris was very personable, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. He was very familiar with the type of unit we would need for the tight space it fits in. His estimate was competitive with others and he was willing to schedule to meet our needs. They are very customer oriented. For example their maintenance contract is paid on a monthly basis. All other companies require a yearly payment. If you should move or have other circumstances, you've already paid the entire year. A monthly contract is much more customer oriented. We only wish we had met Chris and Carney & Son sooner!!

This is an outstanding company with outstanding customer service values and ethics. It has been our experience from Chris, an owner to Steven one of the most relentless, capable, and courteous technicians we have seen. This review is after a repair they made on an HVAC unit purchased and installed by a competitive company and covered by our Carney and Sons 72 Degrees club membership. We that we joined when they replaced a unit in another part of our home. They do what they say they will do at the price they quoted.

The technician informed us that the Freon was very low and as a result our heating system was not producing heat. He suggested that there might be a leak in the system to have such a low Freon level. We were given a choice to have further diagnostics on the old system or risk putting Freon in a possible leaking system. We opted to have the Freon recharged. The unit made it through the winter and spring with heating and cooling.

The maintenance inspection visits were easy and timely.  I am very happy with the businesses service!
Carney & Son's entire staff is a pleasure to work with!!  Their field technicians are very professional, well mannered and knowledgeable. The office staff is very polite and owners have a real sense of pride about the company. 
I would highly recommend these guys for any HVAC needs.

First experience was in summer heat, about 95 degrees in Charleston! They came as quickly as I called and got right to the problem. There were some issues since the unit was older and has not been properly serviced but as soon as they has assessed it, the repair was underway and I was cool within a few hours! Another service had stated that I would need to wait until next day for repair! Professionalism was also key as clean up after the fix was done and no sign that any work had been done. Follow up calls to ensure the unit was working well the next day was an added nice touch. All in all, the service is best I ever encountered in all my years.

It went great...they came when they said the would...did good detailed work, covered their shoes with ' shoe protectors' so not to track anything in house from outside unit to inside house.  Asked if we had CO units in house - we said yes...they wanted to be sure since we use gas heat... All good.

Chris Carney was AWESOME! Appreciated our urgency to get the unit in as soon as possible. Our ac/heat unit compressor crashed on us on a Monday afternoon. We called them Tuesday morning. Chris came out that afternoon and gave us an estimate, with recommendations and had our new unit up and running the next afternoon. They cleaned everything up and except for the ultra cool house we couldn't even tell anyone had been there. Very polite and friendly!!

I called them late in the afternoon on a Friday and wasn't expecting such prompt service. They came right away and made the repair and were sure to answer all of my questions. I told them that I was interested in purchasing a new unit and they actually talked me out of it and assured me that with this repair, my existing unit will be just fine. The technicians were so friendly and professional. They wore shoe covers in my home and they even explained to me that they are background checked and drug tested. Their guarantees were very impressive and unlike any I have seen before. They have a program where they send air conditioner filters to your door, which I took advantage of because that saves me the hassle of going to the store once a month and trying to find my filter size and pick from a whole aisle of filters. They also have something they call Club Memberships (which is basically a glorified preventative maintenance plan) and because I signed up for it, I saved 20% on the capacitor repairs and the service fee was reduced by $20. They also will come out twice, once in the summer and once in the winter to service my system as part of the club membership. The cost to sign up for the club membership was $14.95 per month. It was nice to see the savings that were effective immediately with only giving them $14.95 that day. Also, the benefits will continue in to the future! I like using a local and honest company and I would recommend them highly to anyone.

Communication was always clear and prompt.  Estimate was good, Quality of Work was good.
