Island Plasters Stucco Company&Remodeling

Long story short, the stucco job translated into a full scale remodel of 4 bathrooms, kitchen, removing load bearing wall, new hardwood floors, deck boards & sliding door, etc.  Island Plasters essentially served as a general contractor providing quotes for various phases.  All of the contractors & subs were hard working and from my perspective very skilled and took pride in the quality of their work.  We did not use an architect which contributed to a number of changes which clearly added to the timeline and cost.  Using an architect on a project of this magnitude would clearly be more efficient, but I suspect even with the changes would have ultimately been more expensive, so in retrospect we feel positive trade-off overall.

The one frustration was not always knowing when contractors would show up (hence the "B" grade on punctuality), but Mr. Istrate always got back to us with updates when asked and apologized and frequently visited to monitor the quality and progress of the work.  Again, all of the contractors worked hard and did their best to clean up and not make us any more uncomfortable than necessary while the work was progressing.

There was one clear mistake Island Plasters made with respect to selecting the correct hardwood material to extend our hardwood floor into our living room.  The net result required removing all of the original hardwood to make sure we had a perfect match.  This was done at a cost that was mutually agreeable and I'm sure a little painful for Island Plasters.

The end product is very pleasing.  We've had many compliments just on the stucco and would highly recommend Island Plasters for any remodeling or stucco work.

One footnote regarding the "F" ratings on Angie's List.  Having worked with this company over the course of 1 year, I simply can't fathom them not responding to any requests for quotes, service, etc.  We never had any email, txt or calls go unanswered, so this is a mystery to me.

These people are fantastic.  Mr. Istrate, the company owner , came out the very next day to look at the job and I had an estimate in my email that evening. He promptly answered all my questions.  I contracted with them to do the work and the result far exceeded my expectations.  They were able to match the color, texture, and surface characteristics perfectly.  You would never know there was a repair, it literally looks good as new. The crew was clean, courteous, and professional in every way and the work area was kept orderly at all times. All materials were removed at the end each of the two days required to do the work.

When we first contacted Johnny for an estimate, he was on our doorstep that evening. The next day we had our estimate and a list of references. We e-mailed him several times with questions and he was very timely with his responses. We set the job up for early November, but he was able to start 3 weeks early...which was a relief because we were very worried about the integrity of our siding and possible mildew. We gave Johnny a 30% deposit before the work started.
The job done was amazing....there was a crew of 8 men who worked together setting up the scaffolding then tearing down the horrible stucco job done by the builder on our 9 year old house. By the end of the first day, the mesh, flashing, tape and channels were installed and ready for inspection. Work resumed a day or two after the inspector's approval...these guys were a "well-oiled" machine. The work was done in just a few days and is up to industry standards...we are keeping our eyes on the other 3 walls. I must add that about 4,000 homeowners here are members of a class action lawsuit against the builder for faulty stucco.
Johnny stopped by at the end of the job and we paid him the balance...there were no hidden extras. We will definitely be calling him again and would recommend him to others.
