Our Pug was shaking hard, panting and whimpering on and off. She insisted he did not have pancreatitis, but a stroke of the spine based on her putting her hand up his butt as an exam. She told us to take him off the pancreatitis medication the ER vet prescribed, which only worsened his condition, instead of prescribing the antinausea medication and pain medication he desperately needed insisting he was not in pain. She chuckled at that request. He needed supportive care and she was extremely cold, she did not care at all. When we took him 2 hours away to Mount Pleasant at Veterinary Specialty Care they thoroughly checked him in which he had NO stroke of the spine, NO neurological issues, but bad pancreatitis that was prolonged due to her misdiagnosis and refusal to help him. Veterinary Specialty Care did absolutely everything to save his life August 8th-August 15th, but he passed away 25 hours after surgery due to a blood clot in the lung (a complication of surgery). He wouldn't have needed surgery or been fighting for his life if it wasn't for Dr. Rebecca Latham. She emails us a weak insufficient email acknowledging her misdiagnosis of our Pug, and how it will forever be in our minds if he had the proper care at the right time window he would still be here. That oopsy daisy apology was barely an apology, and everyone that read it immediately perceived it as her trying to protect her business image, while having zero regard for the forever pain she has been caused our family as a result. If she actually listened to us and addressed his pancreatitis he WOULD still be here today. Our son's therapists who see him every week with our son are also in complete shock as he was just perfectly fine prior to this. He was a lively Pug boy, he was our first son, our best friend and an amazing big brother to our son. A vet should listen to their pet parents and their concerns. We knew our Pug was in pain, not having "muscle tremors" or "neurological issues", he was in DAM pain! We couldn't even say goodbye to him because this pandemic! THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! Dr. Rebecca Latham you will forever live with this!

Our dog was referred to a specialty veterinary clinic in Summerville. Dr Victor made sure our dog got the best care as we requested an appointment with an oncologist. He made the referral and followed up with the the specialist and my husband and myself.

We have had Dr Davidson as our Veterinary for over a year. You can tell she loves what she does and not only cares about your pet, but you as well. She takes the time to explain things. She also took care of other other dog who had passed on the day she was out of the office. When she heard about it she called us to say she had heard and wanted to console us. This confirmed we choose the right Veterinarian for our animals.

My 3 year old dog was diagnosed with allergies in September by my vet in Michigan.  At that time he was put on steroids.  We spend 8 months of the year in Hilton Head and were leaving for South Carolina October 1.  My vet told me he had to get off the steroids after 4 weeks and that I should take him to the vet in Hilton Head as soon as we arrived.  I called and got an appointment as soon as we arrived and took him to Dr. Erika Elmore at Heritage Vet.  When she saw him I told her he needed to get off the steroids and she disagreed.  She instructed me to put him on a different limited ingredient diet then the one I had him on and said she felt he was okay on the steroids for a "short time" - 6 weeks while we did a food trial.  That 6 weeks kept being extended until he had been on steroids for a total of 5 months. Inthe next 4 months she treated him, I only received one phone call from Dr. Elmore.  When I questioned her regarding the continuation of the steroids she became annoyed and from then on had vet techs call to see how he was doing and relay instructions.  Within 3 weeks she wanted him on a perscriptiion diet (Over $70 per bag purchased through the clinic) even though he was doing well on the limited ingredient diet.  The steroids he was on were marked up 100% over the price on Drs. Foster and Smith.com so I asked for a perscription.  Reluctantly, I was given a perscription but was told they would not speak or cooperate with them if they called to ask a question or verify the perscription.  I was also told I could not give him chewable heartworm meds and was sold ONE Ivermectine tablet at a 800% markup ($80.) from what I pay for ivermectine for my horses.  All told, I was charged over $1,000.00 in 4 months.  Treatment seemed to be driven by charging the most possible for items that were marked up to ridiculous prices
The most concerning is that Dr. Elmore only wanted to see my dog twice in that time and kept him on steroids for another 4 months after we arrived in S. Carolina.  I finally sought a second opinion and was told that NO dog should be on steroids over 4 weeks unless aged and it was necessary to keep them alive.  Protocol also called for blood tests every 2-4 weeks to check for damage (such a liver damage, diabetes and  cushings disease) caused by the steroids.  No testing, evaluation or blood work was ever done by Dr. Elmore, nor was it suggested. After doing my own online research, I found that was the protocol recommended by every veterinary reference I found.  Oh, and one of the front desk staff is incredibly rude to clients.  How she keeps her job is beyond me.
Presently, we are testing my dog to see if Dr. Elmore's treatment has caused irreperable damage to my young dog.  I would not recommend anyone go to her...ever or for anything.  There can only be two reasons for her putting my dog in the situation where he may have permanent bodily damage.  Either she is incompetent or she did it intentionally because she doesn't care.  My biggest regret is not switching vets when I was first uncomfortable with Dr. Elmore not wanting to answer my questions.
Response from Heritage Animal Hospital LLC
"Allergies in pets can be extremely frustrating and we at Heritage do understand that. Your pet unfortunately did not respond to several medications that were offered in an attempt to discontinue the medication that seemed to provide some relief. We also recommended other options to try and find the underlying issue for the allergies. Dr. Elmore and our technical staff did have several telephone communications with you regarding your pet's health, allergies, and response to different medications. I am sorry that you had to change your review of us from last year when you gave us an A for our emergency response to your pet. We do wish you and your pet well."

I had just left Heritage with my dog who had had a laser treatment for arthritis when he started having a seizure in my car. I called Heritage and they had me turn around and go back to their clinic. I was greeted in the parking lot by 2 vet techs and my vet who whisked my dog off for evaluation. Within 5minutes he had been examined and given meds to calm him and control the seizure. I was then taken into an exam room to talk to the vet I was amazed at the efficiency, caring, kindness and competence exhibited by everyone. One of the reasons I chose Heritage is their emergency service during off hours. I believe they are the only vets on the island who see emergencies when the clinic is closed. When your pet is really hurt or sick you want a vet who doesn't tell you to drive to Savannah to the emergency clinic. This is an extremely well run, top quality vet clinic with staff and vets who are professional and really care about your pets. They are so thorough and good with your pets and provide top care every time. I highly recommend them!

We always enjoy our appointments with Dr. Davidson. She actually gets on the floor with our dog. It's clean and the front office staff is very courteous. I have found them to be very helpful to work with. Scheduling appointments is never a problem and she gets us in very quickly.

Our dog was examined thoroughly, and we were instructed to keep an eye on him, through the next day...as it turned out the limp was only transient and non-threatening.

They saw me that day! The Vet sat in the floor and let the cats get to know her. She spent about 30 minutes with them. They called back the following week to check on them. I was able to return open dry food they did not like for a full refund. A little priced but could not complain about service.
