The most concerning is that Dr. Elmore only wanted to see my dog twice in that time and kept him on steroids for another 4 months after we arrived in S. Carolina. I finally sought a second opinion and was told that NO dog should be on steroids over 4 weeks unless aged and it was necessary to keep them alive. Protocol also called for blood tests every 2-4 weeks to check for damage (such a liver damage, diabetes and cushings disease) caused by the steroids. No testing, evaluation or blood work was ever done by Dr. Elmore, nor was it suggested. After doing my own online research, I found that was the protocol recommended by every veterinary reference I found. Oh, and one of the front desk staff is incredibly rude to clients. How she keeps her job is beyond me.
Presently, we are testing my dog to see if Dr. Elmore's treatment has caused irreperable damage to my young dog. I would not recommend anyone go to her...ever or for anything. There can only be two reasons for her putting my dog in the situation where he may have permanent bodily damage. Either she is incompetent or she did it intentionally because she doesn't care. My biggest regret is not switching vets when I was first uncomfortable with Dr. Elmore not wanting to answer my questions.
"Allergies in pets can be extremely frustrating and we at Heritage do understand that. Your pet unfortunately did not respond to several medications that were offered in an attempt to discontinue the medication that seemed to provide some relief. We also recommended other options to try and find the underlying issue for the allergies. Dr. Elmore and our technical staff did have several telephone communications with you regarding your pet's health, allergies, and response to different medications. I am sorry that you had to change your review of us from last year when you gave us an A for our emergency response to your pet. We do wish you and your pet well."
We liked the approach and recommended treatment.
