About us

The Lamp Doctor has been in business since 1950 when Butch Austin's uncles, Richard and Alvin Wall, started making lamps from old salvaged lamp parts. In 1978 they set up shop in the Old Red Barn antique building on Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greer, South Carolina. Uncle Richard kept the business going even after Lowe's bought the property and caused him to have to relocate to a garage behind his home. In February 2004, Butch took over as the new Lamp Doctor,continuing the family business by offering quality workmanship at reasonable prices.

I was so happy to find someone who repairs lamps!  I was highly satisfied with my experience.  When I dropped off the lamp, he told me the approximate date it would be ready and the cost.  When I picked it up I was happy with the workmanship and cost.  I definitely will use The Lamp Doctor again for future lamp repairs.

It was a great experience. He helped me come up with ideas about how the lights would best hang, most importantly listening to each of the things I wanted in the end product. I was very impressed with the quality and the job he did in general.

The owner was very efficient and repaired the lamp on the spot. No waiting. We had an entertaining conversation. I will go to him for all of my future repair needs. He is very knowledgeable, and his store is well stocked with needed parts.

If you can plug it in and it is supposed to light up Butch can fix it. He poured through catalogs and contacted manufacturers and distributors in an effort to find replacement parts. When he could not he modified other parts to fir my lamps. He is very friendly and professional and most reasonably priced. A real find

I searched locally for a company to repair my lamp. I called a local lamp store and they recommended The Lamp Doctor. His business is in a building right outside his home. He fixed it right while I waited. The cost was very inexpensive. I told him I would recommend him to anyone! He took over a family business. He had a nice little set-up for his business. I was also looking for a hurricane chimney lamp. He had several of these for sale, along with other items.
