The selection process was very basic, we explained from day one on that we wanted to build a contemporary house and we also wanted him to use one or two or the contractors that have done work for me before. He agreed to that, but he only showed us his standard selection which was very basic - his staff has no idea about design.
We were pretty excited when we started the process, but soon after we started to have issues. He did not like to answer questions, if you got him to answer any questions at all. when the framing was done, he did not allow us on our own property anymore and he locked us out. We had to make an appointment to go into our own house! - and he missed several of the appointments we set up.
It went down hill fast from there.
He made sure that he made it impossible for my contractors to perform their work - there was absolutely no communication. One of my painters had to come back 6 times because Addison was setting up time slots for him, then either the door was locked or Addison's work was nto completed so my contractors were not able to start theirs.
I had to call the power company for him to get the power turned on as he was not able to get that done - After demanding some answer from him one day, he threatened me to lock the door and pull all permits. You can imagine that this was a stressful time. After talking to him afterwards - we agreed that it was best that he finishes the house. The day we wanted to move in - he locked us out of the house, so I had a locksmith come and open the door of the house that I had to pay for! The house was not cleaned inside (I have pictures to proof that). The blower test was also not performed at that time to get the energy certificates (which were the MAIN reason we went with Addison).
Several weeks later we did the 30 day walk through and identified several issues with squeeking floors, flickering lights, wall imperfections etc (that is normal for a new house)- but as expected it took us months to get him to fix only a few of these issues. He did not do anything to the squeaking floors. (I actually had a company come in and rip out some tiles so we could fix the issue for Addison - I paid for that). Now we are in the house over a year and we tried to do the one year walk through were we identified all these issues again. ----> no response, no energy certificates proving that the house actually performs (the energy calculations that he showed us in the beginning do not match my power bill - while my energy consumption is lower than my neighbors' , it is still way above what he calculated for the house when we signed the contract).
I had to hire an attorney to get involved so that I finally get my energy certificates which cost me a lot of money - but still nothing from ADDISON.
The whole situation with this builder is very disappointing and frustrating. I should have gone with my gut feeling instead of being blinded by the certificates on his wall.
