John Ward Painting
About us
My grandfather, John Ward Sr., was an old world craftsman. When my grandfather came home from World War II, he began painting houses in Aiken County, SC to make a living. In those days, painters made colors on the job from linseed oil, white lead, and natural pigments. My dad, John Ward Jr., learned the painting trade working alongside the old master tradesman as a teenager. My dad came to Greenwood in the mid 1960’s. He started what is now John Ward Painting while a student at Lander College in 1969. Because of my dad’s old fashioned beliefs learned from my grandfather, John Ward Painting has operated continuously in Greenwood since 1969. As a result of this family tradition, there is a very good possibility that my dad painted your house in years past, or painted your parent’s house. Like my dad, I began working alongside my dad as a teenager. After graduating from Lander College in 1989, I began working as a painter on my dad’s crew in 1992. My dad insisted that I learn every aspect of the job before becoming the President of John Ward Painting in 1995. I currently live in Greenwood with my wife Ann, son John Ward IV (Jack), daughter Harriet, two dogs and 3 cats.
