We first made contact on a weekend, and the weather for the following week was "iffy". Mr. Jones said he would come by when the weather cleared. He said he'd look at the roof and leave an estimate in the mailbox. I said I wanted to be here when he came so I could talk with him about the job and some issues about our roof. I let him know that I'm retired and often at home, but to please call before coming to make sure I could be here to talk with him. After a couple of days, he just showed up without a call. I was here so that was OK, but it indicated to me a possible lack of professionalism. He did not suggest that we needed to add soffit vents (there were none on the house), but included them in his proposal at my request. He initially proposed a few individual vents, even though I think the manufacturer's warranty for the shingles requires continuous vents. He re-quoted with continuous vents. His price was a little less (less than $200 different) than the one we went with, but his proposal did not inspire as much confidence.
