On June 17,2011, I called to order Direct TV. Lady talked real fast, had to keep slowing her down to understand what the program was about. She also told me I could get Geek Squad service for $9.99 a month,cancel it anytime. If I had a computer problem, I could get it fixed by Geek Squad. Since I did have a computer problem that sounded good to me. I emailed Geek Squad to call me, but never heard from them. I was out of town with my daughter being in the hospital for a week, so then I called them. They had no idea what I was talking about, since I didn't buy it from Best Buy or on-line. Spoke to another man who said he could fix it for $49.99. I asked him to cancel the service, as I could get my problem fixed for probably less and not pay the $9.99 start up fee (which I was not told) and 9.99 a month. He told me he couldn't cancel it, I had to call Direct Tv. So I tried that twice, talking to people in other lands to no avail. They couldn't cancel the Geek Squad, they couldn't make the changes I wanted. I had to call 800-488-5069. That office was called,but they were closed for the day. The following afternoon, I started the long horrible process once again. When I called that 800 #, they have a recording that says Hang up and call 800-531-5000. When you call 800 531 5000, they tell you they can't help you, you have to call 800 488 5069. After finally, several hours and attempts later spoke to an American Supervisor who was helpful and explained what I never knew. There is Direct TV and then there are "retailers" who sell Direct TV. Unfortunately, I ordered from a retailer.He was able to cancel the order, because he couldn't change it either, but he could do nothing about cancelling Geek Squad. He suggested I call my credit card company and dispute the charge from Geek Squad. I called the credit card company and tried to explain this confusing mess. He gave me an 800 # for the Geek Squad (there was none on the credit card bill). Interestingly, Geek Squad answered the phone with "Tech Support". Since I had already talked with Tech Support and they couldn't help me with cancelling the service, I was AMAZED that he was able to cancel it. I asked why the 2 men I had talked to before told me they couldn't cancel it. He had no idea, of course. It would have saved me several hours of total misery if they had only done that when I called the first time. The moral of this story is DO NOT BUY DIRECT TV FROM A RETAILER!! YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO CANCEL OR CHANGE ANYTHING!!
Description of Work: Called "Direct TV" to order service. Had questions, wanted to modify my order and cxl Geek Squad service. After spending several hours on the phone 2 days, I was driven to the brink. Talked to foreign people who told me something different everytime I spoke to one. Did not get what I thought I was getting. Could not get problem resolved, but I learned a lot about the Direct TV business.
