High prices for sloppy work I caution anyone considering engaging Custom Glass Works of Fort Mill (Custom Glass) to be on the lookout for sloppy work, excessive mark-ups if working through a general contractor, and high up-front payment requirements. Our general contractor (GC), Kennedy Robinson of Custom Creations, engaged Custom Glass Works to install a frameless shower glass door in our guest bathroom. We were provided with an original estimate for labor and materials of $1,700. However, the final installation price came in at $2,800, which was $1,100 or 65% higher. When we questioned the large increase from the original quote, we were told that the cost increased because we decided, after the initial estimate was prepared, to install a shower bench that the glass would need to wrap around and, as a result, the associated fabrication and labor costs went up. We assumed the cost would go up, but at that point in time, Custom Glass and our GC had us locked in and charged us an exorbitant amount to work around the shower bench. In my opinion, an $1,100 mark-up to cut and install around a shower bench is highway robbery! Given the excessive charges, we expected quality workmanship. Instead, we saw that the glue around the shower glass hinges was seeping out (see attached photo). I can only assume Custom Glass neglected to properly wipe the excess silicon glue before it dried. Also, the glue lines along the bottom of the shower glass door are crooked – the glue line started flush with the glass and eventually stretched out to about an inch along the tile at the other end of the glass. The result was a shower glass install that provides functionally but gives the appearance in some areas of an amateur or DIY installation. By the time we transitioned to the master bath shower, we were on high alert for the potential overcharges and poor workmanship that could result from re-engaging Custom Glass. Therefore, we solicited a competing quote outside our GC. We ultimately decided to engage another glass company, Accent Glass. We saved $700, or 34%, over Custom Glass for the same exact project by not engaging Custom Glass. By using the other glass company, we not only saved a considerable amount of money, but also experienced an installation that was pristine and exhibited high-quality workmanship without any of the last-minute surprises we experienced with Custom Glass. Custom Glass also requires an unnecessarily high 50% deposit when the order is placed; their competitor, on the other hand, did not require any payment until the job was completed 100% to our satisfaction.

Trouble with the new mirror but they redid it 3 times at no cost until they could finally get it right. I've used Custom Glass of Ft. Mill in my last two homes and they are very accommodating and strive for perfection.

The glass on the furniture was so curved that it is necessary to buy a whole sphere of glass and then cut it in half.  Most people would not even give us a price as they said it would be to expensive. The piece of furniture has a really high sentimental value. So, I kept trying to find someone. The made appointments and kept them.  They knew we worked and made sure we were the first appointment.  And this is the first place I have ever had work done that the price was LOWER than the estimate.
Custom Glass had also made our glass shower enclosure. They do what they say they are going to do.
Great Company!

I initially thought I would need to have 3 windows replaced, but later learned that I could get by with having the panes replaced. I spoke with several companies. Steve from Custom Glass Works arrived on time to give me the an estimate of the work. After meeting with Steve from Custom Glass Works I felt comfortable with the way he handled the estimate. He took careful measurements for each window and told his partner the exact information that needed to be conveyed to the manufacturer.to make sure there were no mistakes when the window pane was make. He told me it would take about 3 weeks to get the glass made and installed.

The price was reasonable (in the middle of the estimates received). In about three weeks I received a call that the panes had arrived. We set a date and time for the installation. I had asked that Steve handle the installation. Custom Glass made arrangements for Steve to handle the installation. He arrived on time on the scheduled installation date. The window panes were installed without a problem and look great. Steve and his partner cleaned up the job site before leaving.

I would definitely use Custom Glass Works again.

Custom Glass Works came out and measured 5 windows and gave me a price to install new ones. After I agreed on the price, the company ordered the windows. Later they called and made an appointment with me to install.
On the first visit, 1 of the 5 windows had the incorrect grid spacing to match the window below it so it had to be reordered. Also on the first visit, 1 of the 5 windows did not have any grids at all and that window had to be reordered as well. The other 3 windows were replaced.
On the second visit a couple of weeks later the forth window was replaced and the grid spacing now matched. But the other window was ordered wrong again because it needed to be tempered glass.
On the third visit another couple of weeks later the 5th window was replaced and now everything was correct. The 3 visits was a real inconvience but the company wouldn't offer any compensation to me for my time spent.
Also the windows could have been cleaner upon installation, I had to clean them all again after the company left.

It went very well. They were on time to do the measurements and very prompt in sending me a quote.
There are 2 things I think could be improved:
1) When I signed the proposal they insisted that I give my credit card info, even if I wouldn't be paying by credit card.
I personally don't like my credit card info sitting around in someone's desk drawer
2) When the installers came, they didn't bring all the material they might need to install the glass (I.e. quarter inch round)
They were reluctant to leave the job site to get the material so I sent one of my friends to town.
On the plus side however,
I did have one problem with my kitchen window which I caused by opening it too soon after installation.
As soon as I called and reported it, they sent someone the next day to fix it and did not charge me anything.

Matt and his guys placed glass overlays on our entrance doors...they were excellent from the initial phase of selecting the overlay pattern through the installation which was flawless. They were efficient, knew their product and absolutely profession and neat when they installed the glass. Wonderful to work with and did absolutely everything they told us they would do. We would not only use them again but would and have recommend to anyone.

Contact was initially based on favorable word of mouth comments about the skills and capabilities of Custom Glass Works.
I've now used them on several different projects, and all have turned out great. Shower doors are tops in construction and design.
There was a tricky glass counter that was ten feet long, and needed exact holes cut for two sinks as well. That came out flawlessly.
Any time there was a commitment to call or keep an appointment, it was honored. Minor corrections needed at one point, and they were available and willing to help, even after a period of time after the installation.
I've worked with Frances and John, and most recently, Nate. My experiences couldn't have been better, and I recommend this firm highly. Truly a professional company with knowledge, courtesy, and skill.

I called them because they had done some free work for a civic project in Tega Cay. Friendly office staff. Serviceman showed up on time to give an estimate and took my order. The estimate was higher than I expected because he said that safety glass was required due to the window being so low, but I accepted it. The glass came in within a week and they came out and installed it immediately. They were courteous and neat.

After buying a home last year in bad need of renovation I was getting estimates for frameless showers for 2 bathrooms. After being told that my master bathroom shower needed a metal bar all the way around the top for the same price as a frameless shower, I started doing research on Angie's List. Someone had written that Custom Glass Works of Fort Mill was able to do a frameless shower where others said it couldn't be done. I gave them a call. They were very profesional from the person who answered the phone to the people who came to do the installation to the owners who wanted to make sure that we were happy. We ended up getting 2 frameless showers-one clear and one with a satin finish. They were also able to frame our mirrors in both bathrooms. My husband was thrilled with the results and he wasn't certain that he wanted the bathrooms to be remodeled. I would highly recommend CustomGlass Works of Fort Mill. Our home sold in 3 weeks with competing bids and I know our remodeled bathrooms played a large part in that.

.The quote that they gave me included labor and I ended up installing it by my son so I did not have to pay for labor. I liked them a lot. They gave my son instruction of how to install the window even though they were not going to get paid for the labor, he gave my son pretty detailed instructions on how to install the window which helped me to save some money. They were very timely. I would use this company in the future.

I only wish all of our renovations had gone as smoothly as the work performed by Custom Glass Works. Everyone at this company is a pleasure to work with from the receptionist to the installers to the owner. They are very professional and their workmanship is impeccable. Best yet, their prices are extremely reasonable for the quality of their work.

It has been four years since they did this work and it looks as good today as the day it was installed. We are currently considering installing a frameless shower in another bathroom and this is the only company I will call.

They did initial measurement and discussed best way to approach. Suggested hardware. Returned by appt. with detailed estimate and samples of hardware finishes. Installation was lengthy but perfect. Installer measured and drilled until the door was hung and aligned perfectly, and sweep worked nicely. Gave us detailed instructions on keeping glass clean with best products. Cleaned up work site and shower was beautiful. We have used this glass enclosure daily for over a year with no problems at all. The glass and hardware are are nice looking as the day they were installed.. We couldn't be more pleased and highly recommend this company, not to be confused with CLT company, which is under different owner/manager.
