Absolutely terrible experience with Clearwater Pool Service in Indian Land, SC. I hired them to vacuum the pool, clean the filters, scrub the pool floor, and balance the chemicals ect. The tech showed up, barely stayed 30 minutes, did a rushed job, and still charged me for a full hour. They never provided an invoice--just said it would be emailed, which I never received it. On top of that, I was overcharged for the chemicals (I compared the prices online--massive markup), and nothing was explained properly. the tech was told about the malfunction pump he said it should be fine in a day, it's still same Tried calling multiple times--no return calls. When I finally got someone named Magen on the phone, she hung up on me mid-conversation, saying they were "only there to teach us how to set up the pool settings." Not what we paid for. Complete waste of time and money. I would never recommend this company to anyone. A good business depended on providing service should accept responsibility and come back to finish the job that was left undone. In this day and age, why would I pay someone $125 for full hour to teach me to push some buttons that I can easily find online. I'm OUT $230 and messy pool with messy pool with debris. Called Clearwater Pools to look at an issue with my heater. I was not given an appointment time. After several days, technican came out to look at the problem. His recommendation was to turn the pump up as high as it could go. I was then charged $100 for the visit. He did not fix anything or suggest a solution to the problem. I called back to request another technician take another look. After another week without an appointment time or any communication, we decided to go with another company. I will not call Clearwater Pools for future maintenance needs.

We have a service that comes every week. We use Clearwater Pool Service. They were here April 20, 2016. It cost let's say $100. It's good when they're done. I have use them for two years.

The tech was very nice and seemed to know what he was talking about. One number came up very high and the suggestion was to drain the pool. The owner's felt like that was not true and had their water tested by a second company that same day. The numbers were all totally different. I called the office to discuss this and they really could not give me a reason why this would happen. To best honest I don't know who was right but we are going with another group to do our weekly service because I did not feel like clearwater could tell me why there chemical numbers were so off.

I have been a customer with this business for 10 years. Their pool technician who previously serviced our pool did a good job, not great but satisfactory. Recently that tech has left the business, as have other people in the office. The service has gone from passable to terrible. Pool was frequently not cleaned properly nor on the scheduled dates. Provider sent a technician to look at a pool cleaner that was malfunctioning. The tech took the machine for repair with the proviso that it would be back in a few days. That was at least a month ago. Several phone calls produced repeated flippant answers from the very unprofessional office clerk that "the cleaner would not be done for 2 weeks". I finally asked to talk with the owner of the business, and was told that no one else was available to address the matter. In total frustration, I asked that the cleaner be returned ASAP. It took 8 days for the cleaner to be returned, still not fixed. I have cancelled my service with this provider, and after 10 years, not even had a phone call nor any indication of concern from the provider about losing a long standing customer. When I informed Kinsey, the unprofessional phone attendant, her response was "OK". My advice, "Stay away from this provider!"

I like their punctuality and their knowledge of the pool. Most of the time, the quality is fine.

Weekly visits to clean and maintain pool, emergency replace of main pump. Due to personnel turnovers the filter did not get cleaned for more than 8 months resulting in a green pool. Response was quick after the source of the problem was identified.

The provider was over an hour late to the appointment (that was supposedly) the first appointment of the day. He called after 45 minutes an said he would be there shortly.
He provided no materials, no informed recommendations and no suggestion for daily pool maintenance - rather he indicated that I should 'use my best judgement' (which I have none on account I have never previously owning a pool), 'just read the instructions on the box' (which I would do anyway), or 'it just depends'. I lost 1/2 a day of work and gained NO discernable knowledge from this "pool school". By comparison, the next door neighbor has been more insightful sharing from observation what the former homeownber did to attend to the pool.
I told the service representative that I was displeased with his puntuality and the quality of answers he provided to my seemingly straightforward questions like - "How should I know when to change a filter?", "How often should I test my water?", "How much chlorine do you recommend?" at the time of service and he offered no alternative answers. Today, I called and reported my displeasure this morning directly to the pool service and the receptionist was unapologetic - almost chastizing me for not calling them back and allowing them to come back out again instead of seeking an alternative resource.
To be completely fair, the service technician(s) were pleasant and friendly, just not - at all - informative, professional or planful in their delivery.
I have since attended a similar pool school for less money with very acceptable results.

"(removed member name) is correct that our Technician was an hour late getting to his appointment. He apologized to (removed member name) and explained that some things had happened at the office that were beyond his control. (removed member name) called in to complain about his indoc 2 weeks after the fact. Our receptionist did not chastise him but did say, if you had called in after he had left or the following day we could have had someone else drop by and go over his pool with him again. We don't take any literature out to customer's because each pool is different we recommend that while our Tech is there that they take notes on the information they provide. When (removed member name) asked about, 'how should I know when to change (clean) the filter our Tech showed him the pressure gauge and explained to him that when the pressure gets above a certain point that is when the filter should be cleaned. He also told him that water chemistry should be tested each week and the levels that they should be. He told him that his chlorine level needs to be maintained between 2 ppm - 3 ppm. When (removed member name) asked how much chlorine do I add, our Tech did respond and tell him that depends on several things: 1.What the chlorine level is. 2. Is there algae in the pool. 3. What time of the year it is, summer time the pool will require more chlorine than it would in the cooler months. If (removed member name) didn't understand the information the Tech was giving him he should have told him then. The only thing (removed member name) complained to him about was his tardiness and nothing else. Our Tech's are well versed on how to give a customer an indoc. If that customer does not inform them that they aren't understanding what they are telling them, how are they to know they need to explain it differently. Our goal is to make all of our customer's happy. We offered to send someone else out there to help him understand it better but he declined. I'm not sure how (removed member name) wants us to rectify this. Our Tech was there for an hour and a half going over all his questions. It is hard to understand why if he was so dissatisfied that it took him 2 weeks to inform us of this. We are willing to work out any solution that he suggest in order to make him happy."

I called Clearwater on Monday morning and someone was there by noon the same day. The guy said he couldn't fix it there and then but there was no danger and a technician would be there soon. On Tuesday a technician replaced the top of my filter as the old one had a crack in it. The guys were prompt, knowledgable and professional.

They actually started out quite well, getting the chemicals balanced, keeping the pool in good repair. However, over time there was clearly much less attention to detail. Broken filter baskets weren't replaced. The pump was left on several times in the "service" mode, the pool sweep hose was left tangled and non-functional, leaves were left in the primary filter. Finally, when we called to ask that they come out to take care of the primary filter, we were told we should have done that ourselves! Say what?!?! At $70 per 30 minute visit, with added costs for anything other than the minimum maintenance, you expect good work, responsiveness, and attention to detail. Clearwater Pool Service clearly fell short.

"The member was one of our customers but not on a weekly basis. We serviced their pool every other week per their request. The member called in on January 7th complaining that her maintenance tech had not been emptying her pump and skimmer baskets. I told the member that she was due to be serviced that day but the last time we had been there was December 23, 2010. I also tried to explain that on the weeks that we don't service their pool that it's their responsibility to empty their skimmer and pump baskets. That once every 2 weeks is not enough to keep the debris from filling them up but not to worry her maintenance tech would be there that day to take care of it. That was the end of the conversation. Her husband called back and canceled service. If I had of known that this was something they weren't capable of doing I would have suggested they go on our weekly program. But even on weekly service in some areas and especially during certain times of the year the skimmer and pump baskets need to be emptied more than once a week. The system being left in service mode is inaccurate we leave the systems in time-out. This mode allows the system to run 3 hours for chemicals to be properly circulated before the system goes back into automatic mode. This is a precautionary step, chemicals not allowed to circulate properly can damage the plaster if allowed to settle on the floor of the pool. I regret if there was any misunderstanding during our conversation we appreciated them as customers and always strived to do our best."

After many hours and costly seal replacements on my part and trouble shooting a gas heater I used Angie's List to have my pool problems resolved. I was little reluctant to call Clearwater Pool Service (CPS) because I am up in Huntersville and they are somewhere on the South side of Charlotte, but they looked like a good fit for what I needed. So I called CPS and explained the help I needed they were very friendly and really cared about helping me and the best part was they have a satellite office up north in the Huntersville area, we then schedule for someone to come out May 11 at 9:00am. Sure enough they were there on time and willing to resolve my problem, the technicians name is Derek Poulson what a kick in the butt. I explained to Derek the problem and he proceeded to analyze the pump sucking air after a few minutes he said because I replaced all the seals that it must be the suction side of the pump where he places a putty like seal on the fittings and sure enough the problem was solved. WOW 10 minutes I work hours on this. Then onto the pilot light he tested it and could not get it to light then he pulled out all the guts (pilot light, thermo coupler ...) and started to check each piece until he found that the gas line for the pilot tube had been clogged cleaned it out and that problem was now fixed. You have to meet Derek, he is a very down to earth kind of guy who is very knowledgeable and most importantly professional, he does not mess around he analyzes the problem and proceeds to correct it. If the last pool service company had a Derek I would not had to call Clearwater pool Service!

Someone came out the next day, measured the pool and could give a quote for it right away. Unfortunately it was higher than I had one from a competitor. But got a quick response to my request in a professional and friendly way. Also I went with another company Clearwater Pool Service is highly recommended in all there services and they do have friendly staff.

I have been using them for a long time and they are really awesome. They have given us wonderful service and I am thrilled with them. They always come when they say they are going to come. They have come when there has been any emergency. They are very customer service-oriented; their prices are reasonable and sometimes negotiable. It is always the same person who comes out, so, I do not have to worry about a new guy in the back of my house. I know the guys who come here and, I am very comfortable with them.

they quoted me the same price as other pool co. to order and install the salt water generator. Mark, the tech who installed it, was great. he explained how it worked, and walked me through everything i need to know to use the console. he was very patient and thorough. my only complaint was with the office staff, who don't return phone calls, and didn't even call me when the order came in. i had to keep calling them. on the last time i called, they told me the order had arrived and they had made an install appt for me. this is the first company i have ever dealt with that makes installation appointments without the knowledge of the homeowner! not very professional. but in the end, everything turned out fine.

I called everybody in the book and no one would come out to my house. This company was willing to come out my house and service my pool. I do not have to worry about calling for them to come out they just come. I can always tell that they have been here to clean the pool, because it just sparkles after they have been here. This is a company fabulous and I will continue to use them.

The inspector came on time and inspected the pool, providing a written pool inspection report. The report said "Aquabot in working condition, but tips over." After we bought the house, we realized that the Aquabot did not vacuum at all. The report classified the DE filter as "good," but when we had it cleaned by another company one month later (after buying the house), the filter was incredibly dirty, the DE inside was dark brown instead of white, and the pool company owner who cleaned it said it had never been cleaned. This would have been obvious had the inspector even looked inside the filter. The report classified the filter pump as "good," but when we arrived at the house 30 minutes after closing the pump was clearly leaking. I called the inspector (because at the time he was the only pool person I knew) to arrange for the pump to be repaired and to ask how this could have happened. He tried to blame it on the seller--but the seller had moved before we even saw the house. I explained that this report was what we used to apportion repair costs, and that the seller had compensated us for every repair we had requested, but because the inspection didn't inform us of these problems, we weren't able to ask for compensation from the seller. The inspector said, "I'm not in the mood to fix your pump any more," and hung up the phone on me. (I remember this many months later because I was so shocked that I wrote it down.) I had to find another pool service and ultimately had to replace the entire pump. The cost for the inspection was, on its face, a fair cost, but because the inspection was inaccurate we had to immediately arrange for, and pay for, repairs and service that could otherwise have been done (or paid for) by the seller. By the way, this happened almost a year ago, but I am just now catching up on my reports after having had a lot of work done on this house.
Response from Clearwater Pool Service
"In response to the member's complaint against Clearwater Pool Services we have this to say. The member, as a buyer, contracted our company to inspect the pool on 8/16/07. We were only to inspect the pool and the equipment. As with a building inspector not removing the sheet rock from the walls to inspect a house for damages, we do not take equipment apart to inspect it. The filter casing is inspected to be in good condition, water tight and the clarity of the water in the pool is clear, which is a definite sign that the filter is doing its job. As for the pump motor, it was in good running condition with no leaks upon our inspection. It should be noted that this house stood vacant for a month after we inspected the pool. There was no one to maintain the pool, the pool equipment or the water level. We were called to meet with the new owner, the member on 9/10/107 to go over some of the repairs that was needed to the pool and equipment. Upon our arrival it is noted in our records that the water level was extremely low and that the pump had been allowed to run dry. Mr. Schenk immediately put a water hose in the pool to help get the water level up and worked on getting the pump to prime up. He finally got the pump to prime and noticed that the pump now was leaking. When he informed the member of this, she immediately insisted that since our company inspected the pool and stated that the pump was in good condition that it should be Clearwater's responsibility to repair or replace the pump at no cost to her. Mr Schenk tried to explain to her that the pump running dry was the cause of the damages and that it had nothing to do with the inspection we had performed a month ago. She kept insisting that Clearwater was indeed responsible for the negligence of either the member or the previous owners. We were not sought out to maintain the pool only to inspect it."

It was okay to poor. They started our decent. They ended up completely inadequate. When they first started we had a pool robot that keeps the pool clean. At the very beginning it was broken and we asked them to fix it. They just didn't understand it. The more serious problems were later. The first person was fine, but the second person was horrible. When one of their people left the business they forgot about us and we didn't have our pool serviced for a month. They kept saying they were busy and they wouldn't come for some time. Our pool looked cloudy and so we called them. It turned our the last person had forgotten to put chlorine in the pool. The same person that was working on our pool for a while. The pool robot was broken. They said they would fix it. Finally they sent a technician who fixed the problem, but for three weeks or so we had to keep asking them to come and fix it. We have a little pond as well. It has a pump and it is near the pool. One day the pool guy came and after he left the pond level went down six inches. I called them up and told them that I thought the guy that was just there had drained some of the pond. The next time we had the pond filled again and the same thing happened again. We called and they came out to look at it. This guy came out there and sure enough they had been confusing the pool filter from the pond one. Then this guy was coming to label the difference, but we ended up having to pay a technician to tell him which was which. That was the last straw. It seems like it depends completely on which person comes out to service your pool. Not everybody was bad.

The salt water makes its own chlorine, so all they really have to do is clean the water. There is a salt water filter.

It's very good. They show up when they are supposed to and do their job. We pay them to do the job and that's about it. I would recommend them and use them again in the future.
