Brett Taylor offered to install a used heat pump he had on-hand at my new residence in the Florence / Darlington area. I and my sons did a great amount of prep work so that his installation would be simple. During the prep work process, Brett contacted me and needed some money that he intended to use to replace a few components on the used heat pump. He also mentioned that he had changed banks so he had no access to funds... The whole premise sounded fishy but against my better judgment I gave him $100 and had him sign a receipt as part of prepayment for the heat pump installation. I also gave him the air handler I had since we were going from a "split unit" to a "single unit" system. The air handler had no value to me and he thought that he could use it to help out others who might need the fan etc. As he drove away, I did not realize that this would be the last time I would ever see him. I repeatedly tried to contact him and his wife. After three weeks of pestering him, he called me and told me that he had "split" from his wife and had moved to North Carolina... AND that his wife had "given away" the used heat pump. I asked if he would still be able to deliver on his agreement or should I seek another solution. At that point I was ignored for a couple of weeks and realized that this whole thing was a mistake and found a reputable company/person to deal with concerning a heat pump. I've had many text conversations with Brett recently and even offered that he work off the $100 by making a service call on my little sister's A/C unit. The stories have ranged from "I'm broke" to "I will have someone look at her A/C" but no one ever followed through. I still have not seen my $100 and with just a bit of inquiring around, it appears that he and his wife are not "splitting up". She is at the beach and he is in NC where she will end up with him because they are moving there.
