He was very friendly...... But that's all the good I can say. He came out to see why the furnace wasn't working and lit the pilot light, not investigating why the pilot light was malfunctioning. Two days later there was an overwhelming smell of gas in the house. I immediately called Piedmont Natural Gas and their technician said there were very high levels of carbon monoxide ( lethal) in the house. He showed me on the furnace how two of the three cylinders were cracked and therefore the gas was burning inefficiently. He stated that the unit needed to be immediately shut off and it needed replacement. Obviously the gas technician had no financial gain from suggesting a replacement and was taken aback when I told him that the unit had been serviced two days prior. Needless to say I will not be using them again.
Response from Climate Control Inc
"Climate Control received a “no heat” call for the mentioned customer on 11/19/14. Upon arrival, our technician found a pilot light out on a 40 year old gas furnace. After relighting the pilot, our technician checked for carbon monoxide at the supply vents inside the home and carbon monoxide was detected. This is normal procedure when a pilot outage occurs on an old furnace, since many times the outage is due to a cracked heat exchanger. At this point, the technician did not proceed with any further checks. This was due to several factors including; furnace age is twice the average service life, the heat exchanger was leaking carbon monoxide, and the general overall poor condition of the furnace. A repair this extensive on this old a furnace would not be feasible even if parts were still available. The technician then explained the situation to the homeowner including the fact that carbon monoxide was detected at the vents and the furnace needed replacement. In addition, he noted carbon monoxide detectors needed to be installed in the home. All this information is noted on the invoice which the homeowner signed. He even offered to have our estimator to come out and give a free estimate on replacement. In conclusion, the technician only charged our minimum diagnostic charge since no maintenance was performed. He did not attempt to maintenance or “service” the unit since the system is “worn out”. Also, the customer noted the gas company informed her of dangerous carbon monoxide levels in the home, and that the furnace should be replaced. However, as stated before, our technician had already stated on the customer invoice that carbon monoxide was entering the home and the furnace needed replacement."

I have used them on 3 different occasions. The last time would have been about 2 months ago. They were excellent. It was about $10000.

We've lived here since 1977 and they have worked on the 2 furnaces we've had. They have been very, very good on doing all of that. They are reasonable and they have always been very good.

Our previous preferred and trusted HVAC service provider (Complete Heating and Air) ceased operations. I looked around to find a replacement and based both on the results in Angie's List and word of mouth, I engaged Climate Control. I'm glad I did, although their annual maintenance contract prices are about 20% higher than were those offered by Complete.

For the first maintenance services, the Climate Control technician arrived on time, called beforehand, did a superb job, and was courteous and respectful of our property and time. He noted a possibly failing run capacitor during the service. As I had the same capacitor die on the twin unit last year, I was not surprised by this finding. A new capacitor was installed (after checking with me first) at no additional charge and they gave me my expected discount on parts, as specified in the small print of the contract.

Dealings with the office staff were equally excellent.

Climate Control was very detail oriented to what would work best and they were not pushy. There is no question in our mind that this is the company that we wanted to deal with. They were not the cheapest but we were pleased with the quality of their service. They were prompt, cleaned up well, and checked back to make sure everything was working well.

We contact this company based on one of several recommendations from an HVAC equipment manufacturer's rep. whom we know. Follow-up information from customer references, plus our own observations and evaluation, confirmed this recommendation; and we decided to use this company regardless of which manufacturer's equipment we eventually chose. Sales rep. did exterior building measurements for Manual J calculation on day of initial visit. Did more detailed room-by-room measurements and load adjustments immediately prior to installation. Did not push to sell higher-priced energy efficient equipment or maintenance contract but readily provided information on both. Annual maintenance contract is reasonably priced. Some equipment/installation pricing was higher than quotes obtained elsewhere. Advised that old ductwork appeared to be in good condition and well insulated. If we chose less efficient equipment, it could be re-used, but recommended replacement if we chose higher-efficiency equipment. This matched recommendations from our own independent research. This company's sales rep. is only person who pointed out that the old ductwork had asbestos tape on joints, which would require the additional cost of duct removal and disposal at a hazardous waste site by a separate asbestos abatement company if we installed new ductwork. He also warned that there COULD be an asbestos issue with reattaching the old ducts to a new system, though he did not anticipate that being a problem. When we chose to replace ducts, he recommended flex ducts for air returns to limit noise, but agreed to substitute sheet metal throughout at no additional cost. With both our returns located in a hallway, noise hasn't been an issue; and sheet metal takes up less space than flex duct in our basement--though more than the old rectangular ductwork. Installation took approximately 1 week following removal of old ductwork. Schedule was well coordinated with asbestos abatement firm. We were kept informed of schedule throughout the project. Sales rep and installers took time to consult with us and explain installation and code requirements and options on location for furnace vent, outdoor A/C unit, and other issues as they arose. We are extremely pleased with the way this entire project was handled. Comfort level from room to room is much better balanced than with old system.

We received three (3) separate quotes which proved to be very competitive (within approximately $500 of each other). During the bid evaluation stage, Climate Control was very patient answering questions and explaining the detailed technical information as various options were considered. The sales representative that we dealt with did an excellent job with the bid process as well as monitoring installation progress each day during the time the new units were being installed. Another reason that we awarded the contract to Climate Control was the fact that we had been them them service our old units for the past approximate 15 years. They performed this service with very satisfactory results through these years. The other bidders seemed to be less interested in following up on their bids than did Climate Control. The work was completed exactly on schedule with no last minute cost adjustments. The technicians who installed the units attentive to maintaining a clean work environment and cleaning up after installation was complete.

We were pleased with the gentleman from Climate Control who came to check on our air conditioner. He showed up on time and told us exactly what he was going to do. He was also extremely professional and took the time to talk with us so we felt more comfortable. Also the person we spoke with on the phone was very nice. The only problem we had was that Climate Control would not send anyone out until we signed on to a yearly contract costing $350.00. When you are retired it is hard to spend that kind of money.

Climate Control Inc. installed a new air conditioner in our home. They were very nice and knowledgeable, and the workers did a great job while they worked very quickly. They did not replace any duct work, but the new air conditioner works wonderfully.

They were a really good company to do business with and they were very clean. They cleaned up after themselves very well. They hauled away the old stuff as part of their service. They used good quality products and they did a follow up on the work to make sure everything was operational.

We went through this company for all of our air conditioning and heating needs for 30 years now and that went to show how well they have treated us. The check up was just a regular scheduled one and they did a great job of keeping our units up to par. They were a great group of people who knew how to please their customers.
