Very disappointed. I hired them for the $89.95 ac tune up for my hvac unit. Turns out the unit needed a capacitor. The tech. said it was $174 installed. I said it was okay to install it, but what about the $89.95 I already paid. He said that money didn't cover any of it. I feel that this was a rip off. Since it didn't need a tune up, why was I paying for a tune up and a repair????
Total cost for a $150 repair job was $263.95
I am not happy.
"Sent technician to do 1 time system check purchased through Angie’s List, Technician made an error in not using correct check list for customer. Customer had stated that he has had high utility cost on this home recently. Technician went through system and checked each item on check list and found that the capacitor was weak causing compressor to draw higher amperage than it should. Since system was running our technician gave customer price and option to either replace or not replace capacitor. Customer elected for our company to replace capacitor at the agreed upon price of $174.00. This is our standard price for this component. Our 1 time system check is for a checkup only, no repairs or cleaning. However, since my Technician did not complete all the checks that were supposed to be done Carolina Comfort Systems Inc, is willing to refund 50% of the system check price. 89.95/2=45.00 Info below was provided to customer at time of visit. One time check….Air filter: fair,. Thermostat operation: was operating properly, high voltage: (239), low voltage: (26), contractors and relay operation: checked fine, electrical connections: were tight, . blower motor amp draw 1.93) FLA 3.1, blower assembly: temperature drop: (17) degrees,. Outdoor fan motor(1.3) FLA 1.9 compressor: ( 13.97) RLA 15.6,…..over all the system ran fine Customers complaint was that his utility bill was doubled recently. I checked over the system first the electric heat, then I checked high voltage connections which were tight. I checked the compressors amp draw which is rated at 15.6 and was pulling almost 14 amps, I checked the capacitor 50/5 if checked at 43/4.8 and was really hot. I spoke with the customer on my finding and he decided to replace the capacitor, after replacing the amp draw was at 11. I also made sure the condenser coils were clean. I spoke with the customer and let him know that the compressor may be failing and replacing the capacitor may just be a temporary fix."
It took all day as it was a big job. I watched what they were doing and they were always happy to explain the current step. I could see that the install many years ago was poor on a comparative basis. The attic unit was not properly supported so the old unit had sagged in its warped PLASTIC tray. They built a new support on our front lawn from 3/4 plywood and 2x6 lumber, then installed it in the attic. I think I could have parked my car on that platform. Then they installed a metal tray on top of that.
They retaped every duct junction in the attic with new tape. Removed the old pealing normal gray duct tape and used the expensive wide silver tape that never lets go. THEN they painted over every taped seem on every duct with a white mastic just to be sure it was sealed. They did not install the ducts but they felt they had to have them correct for their new unit to work right. They put foam blocks under all 4 corners of the unit in the metal. tray When I asked about it, they said the blocks would absorb any vibration so that it would be quiet upstairs in the bedrooms. Did the old install have this? Not at all. They installed a water sensor in the tray to shut off the unit in case water built up beyond a certain point. as that is now code. But they also installed another sensor in the drain lines in case they ever got stopped up. I found out that was not code at all. Just doing it the proper way. Again.
I'd highly recommend this company! One cautionary note. This company only has a Conway address and phone. There is a company in my town with the almost identical name but it is NOT the same company. Only use the Conway based company.
