Remember the list of possible problems? Make sure you have install the wrong color shingle.
On the positive side, these folks are very polite and always say the correct response ("We are so sorry. We will be right out there in the next week. Please call us if you have any more trouble.").
So today, eight years after instillation, I went up in the attic on a bright sunny day only to see the sun shinning through a hole where flashing had not been secured. Suggestion for any adventurous homeowners trusting their investment to Home Depot is to place their warranty number on speed dial for easy access.
I decided to go with the most expensive roofing estimate because I was afraid of being screwed. And it ended up that my roof is leaking all over my atrium, they caused nearly $3000 worth of cedar damage, I have an $11,000 lexan glass atrium which was pre inspected (and sealed) by Ace Glass (great people by the way!) and $4000 of glass was cracked. And all types of other horrible issues I must have a 500,000 characters (or more) worth of complaints. I am to the point that I am debating hiring another company to come out and replace this horrible roof. I truly believe Home Depot wants me to cut my losses and go away knowing how expensive a lawyer will cost me and how doing so would only drive me into the ground while they walk away scott free from any kind of reimbursement. They mention in the Home Depot video (when choosing them for a roof) that new flashings would be included when a roof is taken down to the deck. (see Home depots own video over at You tube called,: "How to replace your roof with the Home Depot") I basically got brand new 50 year GAF shingles pasted over 30 year old flashings in combination with areas where no flashing (whatsoever) at all were and this just didn't work. We started this project last year and we are still getting leaks, we have three new leaks just this week. Ace Glasses workers are the ones who brought to my attention that the roof is really messed up, I wouldn't have known (just how much) unless they told me because who ever gets on top of their roof to check on their roofers? Its just so happened I needed to call Ace glass out because all the sudden there were leaks in the area, and when they saw what was done to my roof they advised me to get an inspector. So I looked one up who had the right credentials, not sure if I can write names here so I will leave that blank but it was an inspector from GAF's own site (the manufacturer of the shingles on my home) who is not only GAF certified, but is a HAAG certified master elite roofer My roof has been condemned in his formal report, it states it needs to be replaced. I would be willing to upload a scanned copy of this report and many pictures the inspector took, and interior pictures of the leaks but I do need a connector for two cameras to do that, so i will have to update this later when I can. Now Home depot didn't like that their work was criticized and required I get a second opinion to their work being shoddy and I did only because Home depot is sort of forcing me to remain with them, meaning they love knowing they have me over a barrel, too poor to get a lawyer and they know you can do nothing going that route. I would also advise folks to take a peek in at consumeraffairs.com to check what it is like dealing with them, it seems not much has changed since 2008 forward. Its the run around, and Sharon of Sandy is right, so much so you actually get sick, my first year I have gotten sick in many years by the way was this year while dealing with them. You would wouldn't believe my Home depot file. The back and forths, the lying. Every time a leak occurs, they send someone out, who cant straight away fix it for a few tries until they actually rig the situation to buy time. Other times they tell you its something else (not their own work) just like it was supposedly Ace Glass or a vent pipes fault. So you always need to hire someone else to confirm it was their work. Another example is CPR plumbing (who was sent out by American home shield) was called upon the next day to seal the vent pipe Home depot roofers blamed for the newest leak over my bathroom. Indeed the vent pipe was dislocated but the vent pipe is not where the water was coming in, it was coming in over the very soft spot Ace Glass had pointed out to me (and then me to home depot) in the very first letter of correspondence concerning this dispute. Ace glass was walking around my roof showing me where that bad parts were. I am unlike many homeowners (since I have a semi earth berm home) that I can see a lot from ground level. You can jump onto my roof from ground level. I saw the roof move downward in two places they pointed out (with my own eyes). I I would advise folks to stay away from Home depot roofing if you intend to get a roof and have to deal with any refund issues because you aren't getting one. Seriously if you want those 50 year GAF shingles go to GAFS site direct because someone recommended at GAF's own site can actually provide a better manufacturing warranty on your shingles (even though they are the same Home depot might install). And besides that, those guys know what they are doing check out GAF's tutitorials. I found out I could have saved over $5000 over Home depots cost choosing one of GAFs certified guys to install it (and that price includes all the brand new flashings Home depot might advertise for but I didn't see even as GAF advises the very same. My pictures (once uploaded) show various high nailing and low nailing here and there, missing flashings (all together) or just my old bent and worn stuff, and then globs of stuff squirted on my older flashing, and you can actually see into my house from the outside part of the roof (through the unflashed portion of the roof) Where the home depot crew "didn't understand" how water could possibly be getting in. That's the kicker, they needed an inspector to tell them what they did wrong (as if they couldn't see it) when a 50% blind untrained eye could see the obvious, and that's what I mean about incompetence. Unless it was because they couldn't speak English, because I did have a truck load of non English speaking men putting my roof on. It could have been broken English but I couldn't understand them. II have been working with corporate to try to get this replaced (I would rather someone else does it) and Ellen Fox has been "cordial" but you can tell she is irritated, and paid not to budge or any refunds. So nice (as far as) grinning and bearing me but wanting me to go away without any money to buy another roof. You can tell this, but the work just wasn't quality and they just want the same team to redo what they couldn't fix after trying 6 times earlier (when I finally gave up) and called home depot corporate over their incompetence. Home depot hands me back to these incompetent roofers. All competent roofers know a roof needs flashing, at least English speaking ones who can read and understand the manuals maybe? Ellen Fox is handling this case but only because I called the BBB and simply because Home depot pushed back my dispute 90 days and God forbid if I am not within the statute of limitations for that, though its been pretty fruitless so far. And since I was getting conflicting advice on how long I had, I thought, better safe then sorry but its a customer service thing, and you can tell they are trained to get out of refunding you. I was taken by surprise just last week when this woman Bola from operations support (Ph # 1-877-903-3768) had called me on the afternoon of January 9 2014. I will admit she was the most compassionate player in all this. She of all folks appeared the most genuine, sympathizing over this year ordeal and all my homes destruction and the constant other problems here. Bola said Home depot would be willing to refund us for this roof because of all the troubles and recompense us for all damages done by them. I was thinking, Pinch me, I am dreaming, WHAT?? Like repeat this please? And it was true she said, and I emailed Ellen Fox asking so much right after calling my husband at work with the good news after the year from h*** with Home Depot. Ellen Fox (instead of copying me and emailing me back) called me back (and immediately) never saw h
