We used them for years. They came every other week. The team that came out when we first hired them were very good. Very quick and efficient. Last year, they said they switched the teams to different areas, and started sending a different team. They were ok. Took much longer, and weren't as neat and detailed as the first team. This spring, I texted the leader of the team that has been doing our yard, and asked if they were available that day. He replied, not on that day. I didn't hear from him later in the week, so I asked again the following week. No response. In the afternoon I received a phone call from their office. She told me they are no longer doing our area. Strange because they are right down the street from us. I just don't understand why they wouldn't give us a heads up while we've been waiting for them to show up like they have the past 3 or so years. Meanwhile, my backyard is now a jungle because they gave us no notice and I am scrambling to find someone else to do the job. I would not recommend them.
Response from BLUE MOON LANDSCAPING
"[Member Name Removed], I am sorry that you feel that you were left hanging. We offer year round maintenance schedules. You requested that your maintenance be canceled in December until you called in the spring. We had no idea when or if you wanted to restart service, but calling the day of and expecting service at a specific time would not have been possible in any situation. In the past three months, we made several changes to our routes to better accommodate our yearly customers. You are the only yard in your neighborhood, and although it not too far away from our office, it is in the opposite direction of any other customer that we service, and we unfortunately no longer have room in the schedule. I know that in the past you were in the habit of contacting your crew directly on the day you were scheduled because you also have a dog waste removal company service the yard and we needed to work around that service. It is extremely difficult for any business to work around another service business's schedule, but we did that for you, which is why I am puzzled by why you had issues with punctuality. I apologize that you are so upset, and I do hope that you find someone soon who will be able to meet your needs. We are always willing to offer referrals."

Originally hired Blue Moon to do a $10K project to remove/replace existing shrubs in 3 beds in our front yard along with installation of outdoor lighting.
Struggled during the entire course of the project to get follow-up but was satisfied with the job they did. Subsequently had an outdoor light break and called 3 separate times to get it replaced and repaired and NEVER received a call back. I wasn't requesting it be fixed at no charge and actually openly expressed a willingness to pay for a service call, but was never given a courtesy call back even to decline my nominal and minor service request due to the demand of other more involved or profitable projects.
The lack of follow-up to live phone calls (not voice messages left) has been hugely disappointing. The quality of their original work was average but communication and follow-up is dismal.

Let start with the fact that my yard looks MARVELOUS now.
I really really really liked the owner and had complete confidence in him.  We first spoke on January 3rd because I wanted to get this done before  the season started.  It took 4 visits and 3 months before they started work and in that time the estimate doubled.   On April 3 or thereabouts, the owner was out of the country but assured me he had fully informed his manager.
On the very first day right after they arrived, one of their guys plugged a household extension cord into the outside outlet and blew a set of breakers.  There were painters here at the time and one of them saw what was happening and told the kid not to do it.  He was ignored, the breakers blew, and when I went out and asked who did what to blow up my cable, the manager very aggressively INSISTED they had just arrived and hadn't done ANYTHING.  Now, I have two witnesses (and 2 cameras) to what happened and yet the culprit just ducked and backed away.  He was more afraid of his manager than that I'd drag out the painters and point him out.
Nobody should be that afraid of his manager.   I let it go.
After that unpromising start things went reasonably well and the bulk of the work was done in 2 half days and one full day.  I was dismayed that they left all of the yard waste in a pile by my NEIGHBOR'S driveway to be picked up by the city a week later, but I let that go, too.  Finishing up required repeated follow-up visits, emails and calls because a number of small things were forgotten, a couple of roses were removed that weren't supposed to be, a couple of ivys were left that were supposed to have been removed and my perception of a repaired lawn is not, apparently, theirs.   I finally just called in another landscaper to finish up.
I recommend that you insist on a  fully illustrated plot plan with your specific wants literally spelled out and have it countersigned by whoever does the work.

Several of the heads did not work. Bill was more than anticipated.
Response from BLUE MOON LANDSCAPING
"I apologize that the total cost was more than you anticipated. While we do generally send out estimates before we start a job, repair work is handled differently. Irrigation repair is billed by the hour, so the time will vary depending on how involved the repair is. Any materials used are then billed in addition to labor. I did go back and review your original invoice. Almost half of the cost was for materials as we had to replace 12 rotor heads. Based on our hourly rate for irrigation repair and the number of heads that had to be replaced, this invoice appears to be accurate."

Trent came out for an initial review of my yard. He developed a plan for renovating the yard and cost estimate for the work to be done based on my requests and his expertise. The plan was excellent and the cost estimate very fair for the scope of the work to be done. Justin and the work crew came and were extremely efficient at getting the trees, shrubs and sod removed. I was amazed at how quickly and smoothly that part of the job went. Installation of new plants, sod and lighting took place over several days and the new look of my yard is awesome. Trent, Justin and the entire crew did a great job and were attentive to my requests throughout the process. Their professionalism made the project come together perfectly. After everything was in, Tim and his crew came to check out the entire irrigation system. They also did an outstanding job in seeing that everything was getting the water it needed. I would highly recommend Blue Moon for landscaping, lighting, etc. Their lawn maintenance crew starts tomorrow. I'm looking forward to having Blue Moon maintain the yard. They have high standards so I expect continuing good results.

It went well. They did what we contracted for. It was a fair price. I think the price was where it should be. They did good work and was clean about it. They were here when they said they were going to be here.

Trent was very good to work with. He offered suggestions and answered my questions on what to do with my landscaping. Estimate was very fair for the work he provided. I also have his business cleaning and mowing my lawn on a regular schedule.

I love Blue Moon. One of the only reliable service providers I know. I can call them last minute and ask for something, and it gets done. I have a hard yard to mow, and they do a great job. I think their prices are reasonable. It's always worth it for me to be able to ask for something and have it done right the first time. They do not waste my time or theirs.

I have not hired Blue Moon for a variety of jobs since I moved to Columbia including the initial cleanup of the property i bought when I moved here, lighting, water drainage, plant removal and plant installation, lawn installation.
They have been professional, courteous, efficient, and have shown great talent. I cannot recommend them more highly.

Trent Hutchinson from Blue Moon came out for an estimate. He was very helpful in deciding how to do the landscaping and retaining wall. Initially, we had them landscape just part of the front yard to save money, but it looked so good that we called them back to finish the front. Sod, shrubs, asiatic jasmine, holly tree and japanese maple were artistically installed, along with a beautiful grey stone retaining wall and a small paved area near the front door to hold a bench. It looks great and we are always getting compliments from the neighbors. Plants were chosen for ease of care as well as beauty. This work was done in August. Then in October we had Blue Moon install four trees in a totally bare backyard. Two crape myrtles and two hollies. Trent came out to direct the placement of the trees. His crew were always professional and pleasant and showed up on time. They did an especially nice job on the retaining wall out front which was carefully measured and leveled. Thank you Blue Moon. We love our yard.

They were responsive. They are little bit more expensive than the others, but we were very pleased with the person who came out and met with us.

The inital phases went fine. All work was completed in early 2007 and aside from a few things (trampled ivy, slow work pace, owner never on site, poor communication) the initial phases went fine. All work was completed as agreed and we were told by the owner Trent, that nothing needed to be done in the first year other than to water and mow the new lawn. The initial estimate specified Zoysia turf grass but at seemingly the last minute it was changed (at Trent's recommendation) to Centipede. This turned out to be a huge mistake as we would soon find out. Moving forward to late 2007, we started our attempts to contact the owner Trent first through email and then through the phone about the grass thinning in two locations and a large hole that had developed in an area that he was supposed to have regraded. After several (about ten) attempts through email and phone, Trent finally came by to look at the property on March 21, 2008 where he told me on the phone that he would "resolve all of our issues". I had not heard from him until I left an additional four messages with him and finally "caught" him answering the phone at the office on May 2 and he said he would come up with a plan. I assumed he came by again to look at the property because I received an email on May 5, 2008 with an invoice for $1028.25 to replace the grass he installed and recommended go in this location with a different type of groundcover. I have since contacted two additional landscaping companies who both informed me that the choice to install Centipede grass in such a shady location was a mistake and that it would never survive.
Response from BLUE MOON LANDSCAPING
"Interesting diatribe of complete fabrication. This person clearly has a penchant for writing creative fiction. Only sense I can make of this is its a competitor or a friend or plant of a competitor but most of the reputable companies I know in the business would not stoop to this?"
