I wanted to have some professional help in redesigning my kitchen and bath. My expectations were not met. I thought that professionals would have asked questions (about the electrical box - the people who did the design acknowledged in a meeting that they forgot to consider the electrical box) or considered some details (like what was on the other side of the bathroom wall) that they did not in the initial work. As the experienced professionals, I expected they would raise some of issues. In addition, I had understood that $1000 was the high end cost, not the expected cost. I spent $250 on the measurements and $500 on the 4 draft designs they provided. Here is what I wrote in response to the work followed by their reply. . . . thinking about my disappointment with some aspects of the work that was done. I wanted to let you know that. I would have liked to have an option that did not involve moving the fuse box and the extra cost that entails. Most of the suggestions also recommended that I add another separate door to my bedroom to create a separate laundry room. The problem with that suggestion is that the plans suggested 2 doors along the wall with the bed (really the only wall for the bed because of doors and windows in other walls). It is not a long wall so that a king size bed would be right next to the door frame on both sides between these doors and a queen would not be much better. There is no room for a nightstand. My candid feedback is that I was hoping for some more practical options and some that were lower as well as higher priced. Their reply I spent some time this week reviewing the project and I think there has been a misunderstanding. The concept design phase, as described in the proposal is anticipated to be a back and forth exercise. We developed three initial concepts, and I understand that the electrical box became an issue. These initial concepts are rarely intended to be the “final answer”, and certainly were not in this case. Many times, this is the first time a homeowner has ever seen a floor plan and there is a bit of a learning curve as we get from the existing to the idea of changing things. As outlined on the timeline in the proposal, we intended for this complete exercise to take about 10 hours—presenting initial ideas, getting feedback, tweaking ideas, getting more feedback, and then arriving at a final conceptual solution. We only did the first step in this process. For example, knowing that king bed and nightstand is important, can better inform what would have been the next round of concepts. Knowing that the cost of the electrical box move is not an option does the same thing. In our last communication with you, Kylie mentioned that there were some concepts we had that didn’t involve moving the electrical box. We are happy to send one along, at no cost, so you get a better understanding of the way the process was intended to work. I understand money is involved and I don’t take that lightly. Let me know if another option is something you would like to see and I can get xx and xx to pull it together. I am going to be out of the country, starting this week, through Thanksgiving. I have debriefed xx and xxon this conversation, so please let us all know what you decide and be sure to copy me on correspondence so that I can stay in the loop. I hope this makes some sense and hope we can resolve your concerns.
