Workmen were on time and worked hard to do beautiful work. All debris was removed and attention was paid to detail. Workers were polite and Stewart Sparks and partner were super attentive to our wishes.

It was horrible. They did not level the floor, very poor craftsmanship. They had no idea what they were doing with the tiles. I had to have them come back and re-do the shower, but they did not re-do the floor. They complained the whole time when they had to come back. Spivey was more cooperative than the other partner who did not even want to take responsibility and was very rude. Had Spivey not stepped in, I was going to take them to court. I paid extra to paint the bathroom and they did a lousy job on that too.  It took over 6 months for this nightmare to end. I hope nobody else has to go through this.
Response from Spivey & Sparks Construction
"Yes I agree it was a nightmare. I made the mistake of agreeing to take on this job even though I had second thoughts after meeting these people. My cabinet distributor refused to work with these people after their first meeting. My granite distributor called me and had the same opinion. The tile that they supplied us was from two different lots and did not match. The vanity cabinet that she decided on took 6 weeks to arrive and the granite supplier that she found was equally slow. these people were consistently adding additional work but didn't want to pay for it. I don't expect [removed member name] will remember these things as she was self medicating daily. But even after all this we stuck it out and finished their bathroom and it finally turned out beautiful. I always tell people we make 98% of our customers happy..... [removed member name] are the 2%"

Very quick install and looks good, the dust from drywall sanding was challenging to clean up. Overall, the experience was good.

I worked almost exclusively with Mike Spivey throughout the work. Mike is a really nice guy and was easy to communicate with. They were able to fit in my work relatively quickly and overall did nice work. I was very impressed with the quality of the floor and shower tile installation that Mike did. It is top-notch. And most of the other work was of good quality.
But there were a couple of details that could have been managed better. For example they installed a can light above each shower, but instead of wiring it onto the existing vanity light switch, they tied them into the exhaust fan, so you can't run the exhaust fan without having a light on constantly. I know why they did it; the wire for the exhaust fan was adjacent to where the can lights were installed in the attic. But they should have asked about how I wanted that done. And after they finished there was an issue with both showers where the the shower head had a moderate flow even without the shower diverter engaged. I was amazed that they didn't test the showers before leaving, or if they did, not address this serious issue. According to several plumbing forums, PEX pipe should never be used for shower spouts b/c the smaller diameter produces back pressure on the line and forces water into the shower head even when you haven't engaged the lever. But PEX pipe had been used for both tub spouts. I called Mike about it, who claimed he had never seen this issue with his work, but he said he'd fix it. At that point I was worried it would never get fixed b/c I had made the final payment, so I was pleasantly surprised that Mike followed through with his promise and came by to fix both faucets. One final issue is that the subfloor in the 2nd bathroom was in pretty bad shape and was not completely level, but they chose not to fix it while they had everything ripped up. Initially it didn't seem too bad, but 2 years later the floor started creaking so badly that I had to spend nearly $1,000 to get someone to replace it.
In summary, I think you get what you pay for. In the case of Spivey & Sparks Construction, their prices are very competitive, and for the most part their work is high-quality, but there are occasional issues with attention to detail. I still recommend their work but suggest you be sure to clarify some details as they crop up to ensure they get addressed before everything is done and fixes are much more difficult.

You can't go wrong with Spivey and Sparks construction.  We need a complete repair of our foundation and received 4 estimates.  While Spivey was the lowest estimate, we went with our gut since Stewart Sparks showed up on time, explained the estimate, and provided very professional service.
The estimate was supposed to take up 4 days to complete the work at $9,800.  On day one, Stewart and his crew showed up early and came prepared to work.  The very next day, the same experience with Stewart being early.  They completed the main job (minus masonry work) in just 2 days.  When we asked about additional concerns with some of the sagging floors, Stewart himself climbed under the house and told us the issue.  He fixed it without adding to the original estimate.
We are very happy with Stewart and his work.  In fact, we have more work that needs to be done and he is #1 on our list to call.  If you want on time, honest, and straight forward work, call these guys!!

We had a lot of back and forth and there is still one place in the floor that they said they'd straighten out, but haven't yet. It's not a big deal, but I'd like them to stick to their word. Everything went well otherwise. They were willing to work with me on the price, which I really appreciated.

Overall the place looks great. Very professional contractors, and very mindful of budgeting. Stewart made the place better than what it was originally.

My husband doesn't do anything unless it's a good deal so the cost must have been reasonable. They were real upstanding guys. Everyone on their crew were professional. I didn't have any problems and they took care of business. They listened to me and did what I asked them to do and they gave me a quote before they did the work. They are good people and we have used them several times.

The work started a little late due to some of the material (which was dropped off by someone else) not being up to the contractor's specs, but the work was finished on the day that they started. I elected to do the painting myself, so I can't rate them on that, but the overall construction is solid and looks fabulous after the paint job.  It fits well with the remaining woodwork in the house.  Overall I am pleased with the work that was done.

Was very responsive, gave a quick quote, and did good work.  The only downside was that the initial estimate (sight unseen) was $375 which then went up to $475 after he looked at the driveway.  This is perfectly fine since it was just a guess initially.  He called to let me know that after looking that it would be $475, I agreed.  less than an hour later, He upped it again to $490.  I felt like I was being nickeled and dimed.  But the work was good and very fast so I would recommend him to somebody else for similar work.

The overall experience could not have been better!!!!!!!!!!  This major renovation happened while my office (CPA firm) was still in operation.  This took a coordinated effort with the contractor's personnel,  subcontractors, moving company, property regime personnel not to mention city officials which are notoriously difficult to work with particularly when renovating a historical 1880's structure.  Of course the process was inconvenient at times because we were operating our office during the renovation process, but Mr. Sparks and Mr. Spivey developed a plan/timeline and did a wonderful job in communicating what to expect during the process and what everybody's responsibilities were.  On the financial side of this process.  Mr. Sparks pulled together a detailed proposal listing the scope of work to be performed.  As with any renovation job particularly one that required as much demolition as this one,   additional items came up.  Never once during the process did I think that Spivey and Sparks construction were trying to nickel and dime me with change orders.  Which is refreshing change from previous experiences.   The kitchen and bathroom exceeded our expectations and your attention to the little details made all the difference in the world.   I never take the time to leave a response like this, but I was so impressed I decided to this time.  I strongly recommend them for any type of renovation project both residential or commercial.

This is the second time I used Spivey and Sparks as they did a bathroom renovation on one of my residential rental properties.  Much smaller job but was done on time with no change orders.

We couldn?t get anybody to come out here so I guess it was about what I planned on paying.   We had a misunderstanding about how smooth we wanted it and that was our fault, but they brushed it one way and then another so it doesn?t look the same throughout.   We recently moved down here but the contract and everything felt very laidback; that might just be how they do it here.

"i have been doing this type of work for 20+ yaers and thesewere the most indecisive people i have ever dealt with. the design chanded 5 times and even after we marked the ground with marking paint to prepare to pour the next day-- it changed again the next morning! i dont think anyone can totally satisfy these people. i am pleased we recieved an overall B."
