"Yes I agree it was a nightmare. I made the mistake of agreeing to take on this job even though I had second thoughts after meeting these people. My cabinet distributor refused to work with these people after their first meeting. My granite distributor called me and had the same opinion. The tile that they supplied us was from two different lots and did not match. The vanity cabinet that she decided on took 6 weeks to arrive and the granite supplier that she found was equally slow. these people were consistently adding additional work but didn't want to pay for it. I don't expect [removed member name] will remember these things as she was self medicating daily. But even after all this we stuck it out and finished their bathroom and it finally turned out beautiful. I always tell people we make 98% of our customers happy..... [removed member name] are the 2%"
But there were a couple of details that could have been managed better. For example they installed a can light above each shower, but instead of wiring it onto the existing vanity light switch, they tied them into the exhaust fan, so you can't run the exhaust fan without having a light on constantly. I know why they did it; the wire for the exhaust fan was adjacent to where the can lights were installed in the attic. But they should have asked about how I wanted that done. And after they finished there was an issue with both showers where the the shower head had a moderate flow even without the shower diverter engaged. I was amazed that they didn't test the showers before leaving, or if they did, not address this serious issue. According to several plumbing forums, PEX pipe should never be used for shower spouts b/c the smaller diameter produces back pressure on the line and forces water into the shower head even when you haven't engaged the lever. But PEX pipe had been used for both tub spouts. I called Mike about it, who claimed he had never seen this issue with his work, but he said he'd fix it. At that point I was worried it would never get fixed b/c I had made the final payment, so I was pleasantly surprised that Mike followed through with his promise and came by to fix both faucets. One final issue is that the subfloor in the 2nd bathroom was in pretty bad shape and was not completely level, but they chose not to fix it while they had everything ripped up. Initially it didn't seem too bad, but 2 years later the floor started creaking so badly that I had to spend nearly $1,000 to get someone to replace it.
In summary, I think you get what you pay for. In the case of Spivey & Sparks Construction, their prices are very competitive, and for the most part their work is high-quality, but there are occasional issues with attention to detail. I still recommend their work but suggest you be sure to clarify some details as they crop up to ensure they get addressed before everything is done and fixes are much more difficult.
The estimate was supposed to take up 4 days to complete the work at $9,800. On day one, Stewart and his crew showed up early and came prepared to work. The very next day, the same experience with Stewart being early. They completed the main job (minus masonry work) in just 2 days. When we asked about additional concerns with some of the sagging floors, Stewart himself climbed under the house and told us the issue. He fixed it without adding to the original estimate.
We are very happy with Stewart and his work. In fact, we have more work that needs to be done and he is #1 on our list to call. If you want on time, honest, and straight forward work, call these guys!!
This is the second time I used Spivey and Sparks as they did a bathroom renovation on one of my residential rental properties. Much smaller job but was done on time with no change orders.

"i have been doing this type of work for 20+ yaers and thesewere the most indecisive people i have ever dealt with. the design chanded 5 times and even after we marked the ground with marking paint to prepare to pour the next day-- it changed again the next morning! i dont think anyone can totally satisfy these people. i am pleased we recieved an overall B."
