We had a gas line fire which did damage to the side of a house that we are renting. We also sustained some water damage from the firefighters, and the insurance company chose Service Master Clean to manage the clean-up. Over two months later (12/30 to 3/13) and the project is still not complete due to contractor mistakes and mismanagement. Two folks that worked on this project were surprised that it had taken this long and said they'd seen similar projects take much less time.
Service Master Clean, and the contractors that Service Master Clean selected, did the following:
Ordered the wrong size tile for the fireplace area.
The crew that was supposed to install the fireplace doors showed up over 4 hours late without notifying me. I couldn't adjust my schedule so they had to come back. They didn't come back for over 3 weeks.
Waited until nearing the end of the project to order the gas logs, only to find they're on backorder, twice, causing a delay.
After repairing, patching and painting the walls in the living room, they had to cut a hole in them again to repair a gas line. No idea why this wasn't done earlier.
Left a mess on the side yard and the roof, scrap materials everywhere.
Still haven't fixed some damage on the side of the house.
Didn't properly cover the roof, so one of the bedrooms had to be re-done all over again after 3 days of rain, causing a delay.
Part of the floor near the fireplace that took water damage was never addressed after mentioning it twice.
They have to re-shingle the roof again because the shingles that they used weren't even close to matching the original shingles. Service Master Clean placed the blame on the owners (who live in CA) for this, but had SMC even bothered to look at the shingles, they would have realized that this was unacceptable.
Very poor communication.
The only positive thing that I could say about Service Master Clean is that the folks that came to set up the dryers were professional and polite.
Everyone has a bad day, so I normally give them the benefit of the doubt. In this case however, Service Master Clean has clearly demonstrated that they were not suitable to manage this project in a professional and timely manner.
