We have been using Northwoods for the last 21 years. We have always had multiple cats and dogs.  Over these 21 years the service as been excellent.  The staff and the Doctors are polite and professioinal. They take the time to listen and to care.  We feel like they are part of the famiily.  Additionally, they have been proactive in referrals and finding the correct specialist when needed. WE TRUST NO ONE ELSE IN THE AREA  FOR CARE OF OUR PETS!

Northwoods has been our clinic exclusively for 5 years.
We took the dog in the same day after the injury at the beach. We wanted to make sure that the dog didn't have a fracture and to find out how to help him.
After her initial exam and x ray, Dr. Liew was not positive it was his knee he injured. She insisted that we bring him in that Friday to place him under heavy sedation and let another doctor examine the knee while sedated. At the time of the visit she provided us unsolicited, with an estimate for a TTA Cruciate Surgery costing approximately $3100.00 or another surgery for Cruciate Repair Excap costing about $2200.00.
She then said she was quite sure it was the knee and he would most likely need immediate surgery..
She gave us NSAIDS to last until Friday and we left. No other avenue of treatment had been discussed with us.
Once home, I thought it over and decided that I would like to keep him off his knee for a few weeks and see how he progressed. I called and spoke with her and explained my decision to wait. I asked her to give us more NSAIDS and some tranquilizer as he is an active dog. She offered no help or other suggestion regarding my decision for conservative management and said and quot;good luckand quot;.That day I decided to call another DVM for a second opinion. The second DVM requested the records from Northwoods for an appointment later in the week.
Two days later, I received a letter in the mail on Northwoods Veterinary Clinic letterhead. The letter stated that and quot;from our recent interaction with them they had concluded that they were not meeting our veterinary needsand quot;. They said that they had sent our records to the second opinion DVM and we should seek service from them. It further stated that this was and quot;immediate notification of termination of any further veterinary care from either of their clinicsand quot;. I guess I was supposed to have blind trust for a doctor I had never met, and have immediate drastic non-emergency surgery without a second opinion regarding the best course of treatment. There seemed to be no interest by Northwoods in the welfare of the dog that had been their patient for 5 years. Only that they were terminating our relationship. I am very saddened at lack of care and professional behavior on their part.

.The location is very convenient and close to our home. The office is clean and the Staff very friendly. I had all our previous medical records, but we were not 100% certain of the type of vaccine administered in VA so the Staff called to verify this. That shows me an honest concern for the well being of our dogs - which is ideal. Our boxers are from a Rescue and had no previous training. As such, I have only brought in one dog at a time for Vet care so I could focus on each dog and and quot;handleand quot; them better. Being new to the area, I didn't think about the obvious, that it's very hot in Charleston in the summer, and had both dogs. Of course, I couldn't leave one in the car to manage each dog individually. The Staff reassured me we'd be fine, and they were correct. They put ME at ease and were wonderful with our two (potentially) bouncy boxers. The dogs did great (no barking and no jumping - a tendency from their past) and got their shots without any problems. This made me more relaxed and sure was easy for the Staff and dogs. Having rescue dogs who were basically wild when we adopted them, I still get nervous about how they may behave in new situations. At 80 and 90 pounds each, the dogs are large; they obey me, but I care about keeping them under control since their combined weight is more than mine. The Staff at Northwoods were confident and gentle with the dogs which is why I feel the dogs did so well there. It may seem silly to write about so many concerns when all we needed was a kennel cough vaccine, but if you have ever owned a large dog from a Rescue AND moved only a few days prior then you'll understand that this and quot;simpleand quot; procedure could've been difficult. Instead, it was a breeze and I am very happy to recommend Northwoods Clinic

They are very professional. I've been with them for almost 15 years. They are very thorough and very efficient. They are good people. There are several doctors there that I have dealt with. My favorite is a lady that I first saw and has seen my dog for 14 years. I had two abandoned puppies and one of them died last year with cancer. This lady was the one that put her to sleep for me. She took it very seriously.

The price included the heartworms. They have been my veterinarian for 5 or 6 years. The vet I see is knowledgeable and always answers all my questions. She is an all around great veterinarian and I like her.
