Project went very well. Contractor finished on time and within budget. He was very helpful in making suggestions for the best way to do things.

Billing and Payment:
This contractor had me pay as I went along. He is not high-tech so did not have CAD drawings or a good invoicing system.
He provided an estimate at the beginning but did not have any kind of system to track changes, amounts or invoicing. At no time could he give me an accurate amount of what was spent and what was yet to be paid for. I had the information of course but it was a problem since he also continually revised the estimate (upward) thoughout the process, and had me pay me throughout the process, so it was really set up that the client assumed most of the risk.
Quality of Work:
Fair - my kitchen sink still leaks after 2 years, the paint is chipping off the cabinets, the banisters I had painted at $500 (for 14 stair steps) are already worn off.
When problems were pointed out to the contractor, his response was usually "oh this guy is usually very good but he's been having quality problems so I won't use him again." This was especially a problem with the granite installer - at one point the wrong granite as installed in the fireplace area and the contractor tried to convince me to keep it, even though it was a: not what I had chose b: not the right color or even close c: not even in straight and had huge gaps.
I think he is a nice guy and honest but not great at accepting responsibility or following up.

We have had excellent experiences with them! They stayed on schedule, did a very satisfactory job, and the price was reasonable. We reused them because of the experience.

His name is Les Hanak. The price was reasonable but it was not cheap. It was worth the price. They did a huge amount of work. He kept saying things that would look good and I agreed. He was right. Some of the subcontractors were not as professional but I don't know if you can get better. I will definitely use him again as soon as I can get some more money.
