Appliance Repair
I purchased a GE refrigerator from their new 'Artistry' series because I have a 1960's retro-looking house and I thought that the retro look of the Artistry frig would fit in nicely, as it does. Problem is that the ice-maker tray doesn't properly fit the ice-maker; the flipper to stop making ice deploys late as the bin sits too low, so the flipper flips the top two layers of ice all over the freezer (it's a bottom freezer model and the freezer has a large drawer). If you make the mistake of moving the freezer wire-basket drawer just a little to reach something in the back, the ice that has been flung falls behind the drawer making it impossible to close, so you take a bunch of stuff out of the drawer, remove the drawer, remove all the loose ice from all over, and then put it all back. UNACCEPTABLE for a new $1,000 refrigerator.
On the day of my appointment with GE repair, the repair man called me on my cell and asked for the serial number of the refrigerator. i was not at home and didn't have it and he said the reason he asked was because the number he had on his work order showed that the refrigerator was around four years old! HUH? Just bought it two months ago! I told him that wasn't possible since I bought it two months ago, and the Artistry line is new and only started shipping at the end of 2013. Nope; he INSISTED that the frig was an old floor model and he needed to check that number to make sure it still had a warranty.
I was near the appliance store where I bought it and stopped in to ask them, and to get another copy of the receipt in case I needed it. They also said that the refrigerator was brand new from a brand new line. So, I got home and in a while the service tech showed up. I gave him the receipt, and the serial number on it matched the one on the frig. He said the frig must be an old one; nope; you could clearly see that it was purchased in mid-January 2014. The tech CONTINUED to argue with me about the date of the frig and I finally gave up. Next, he checked he ice maker and said it was fine and the bin was too short... duh. He checked out another bin that came with the frig, and it was huge.. but back to that later.
He told me to get a piece of wood to jam under the ice bin to raise it iup.... huh? This is a BRAND NEW refrigerator and I paid extra for the ice-maker and I expect it to work and FIT. His other suggestion was to take the too big ice bin and take a hacksaw and cut it down to make it fit... HUH??????? He said that he would order a new ice bin. I told him that I had checked on the model of the ice maker and the one in the frig is NOT the one that GE parts says should be in there now (before the release of the frig they specified a different one, and that's the one that's in it), and that the parts people at GE are all idiots. I could not wait for him to leave. Today the ice bin that he ordered came; it's the wrong one.
I spoke with the store where I bought it and the sales gal and a manager came to my house to check it out; they were shocked and apalled at the ludicrous suggestions of the tech and said that they would call the rep to discuss it. I called GE again and the ice maker that they told me that should be in there is STILL the one they say should be in there. The ice-maker in there is NOT the one that GE recommends. GE is sending a repair guy out again next week and they have assured me that this repair guy would NOT be the same one.
I would not recommend them for serval reasons; the argumentative tech, the tech who obviously had never seen the model of frig before and just assumed that the customer didn't know what they had, and maybe more important.... I would not want to do business with a company whose employee calls other divisions' employees of the same company 'idiots' That's not the way to keep customers. Would I buy another GE product? Most likely not.

I was told in the beginning that all the parts to this cook top were available but when the technician came out he told me one key part was no longer available. I was charged for a service call for something that cannot be repaired.

Our 7.5 year old GE Monogram refrigerator stopped cooling on Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2013. We called before 8:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, and a technician came within 2 hours. He determined that a coolant leak in the heat exchanger was causing the problem, recharged the system, ordered the replacement parts, and scheduled a follow-up appointment for Tuesday, May 14, to install the parts. He assured us that the temporary recharge would hold us until the follow-up appointment. However, on Thursday, May 9, the refrigerator stopped cooling again. By then, the ordered parts had arrived. We called GE again on Friday morning, May 10, and 2 GE technicians arrived Friday afternoon, installed the parts, and asserted that the problem was solved. However, on Saturday, May 11, it was apparent that the refrigerator was only partially cooling -- the temperature in the freezer section fluctuated between 10 and 20 degrees F. After calling GE a third time, they set up an appointment for Monday morning, May 13. The technician arrived before 9:00 a.m. and determine that during the previous repair, the technicians had left wires in the path of the compressor fan, which caused the fan to stop working, which in turn caused the compressor to overheat and shut down before completion of the cooling cycle. Th third technician re-aligned the wires, so that the compressor would function properly. We hope this will be the end of this saga.

GE profile dryer was on the fritz. Called GE and scheduled an appointment that was met on time and on schedule. Technician
provided many hints that would significantly lower further in person visits.

We had them several times. My house has all GE appliances so they come out to fix it for us and maintain it. They have maintained our microwave and done repairs to our refrigerator a couple of times. They are always good. There are no variations in their service and they would generally schedule to come out the next day. They would tell you when they would be there and they are generally on time. At one time they didn't have the parts so the guy showed me how to change it and two days later the part showed up in the mail. They have been very good.

He discovered that our dryer vent was clogged with lint. He cleared it out and it has been working fine since then.

They have always been up front and reliable. Their prices are reasonable. They are in line with the rest of the trade. I have been very pleased with their service. They explain things to you so that you understand what is broken and what needs to be fixed. They aren't trying to sell you something new if it can be fixed. I was leary at first to use them, but since I did I have been pleased. They came when they said they would come and did what they said they were going to do. They didn't charge me extra when they came to do a repair. I called them, they came, and it was functioning correctly.
