Charleston Home Rentals

This is the absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. When we first moved into our gated community condo rental, we were not listed in the security gate for entry and only had one key fob. We spoke with someone at Charleston Home Rentals and discovered that we were never reported to the HOA as being moved in. We were given the number to the HOA and were told that it was illegal to move a resident into the gated community without notifying the HOA. We were then added to the security gate and paid out of our own pocket for a new key fob. We never received any walk through or follow up from the company once we were moved in. Also, it is very difficult for you to reach anyone in the office for assistance as you are channeled through a loop of voicemail's and no return calls. We were forced to text with one of the agents just to get a response. Also, I was the lease holder and my sister was listed as a resident, my sister was the one to receive most e-mail correspondence and calls regarding the property. My sister was still getting e-mails from the company that they were showing the property after our lease ended. TAKE PICTURES when you move out as we followed the move out instructions thoroughly and only received $298 out of $1200 back from our security deposit. I even patched nail holes and painted over them including closets with the paint that was left on the property. We were charged with a $290 fee for "touch up paint." Also, we were charged $80 for carpets after we rented a professional carpet cleaner from Home Depot. We were also charged a $450 cleaning fee and $82 in Administration Charges after we had cleaned the apartment as requested in move out instructions. We were also told that we left the microwave a mess and informed Josh the supervisor that the microwave did not even belong to the property that we left it. In speaking with Josh, the only examples he could give about our refund not being returned in full was that the place was left a mess, microwave was a mess, there was a pubic hair on the toilet as well as urine. I rented my house in Columbia out while I was living in Charleston for 2 years using a professional property manager company and know what a great property manager should be, this was not it. I would HIGHLY recommend you choose another company to go with as this was a very stressful and horrible experience.
