The ducts were cleaned promptly and effectively. Price is very reasonable ($30/vent) too.

It took me a couple of calls to reach Norman, the owner. We finally were able to connect and set up the appointment for today at 10 AM. He showed up for the job on time; which I appreciate greatly. Norman is a very easy to talk to guy (we are both Veterans so we got along well), very professional demeanor and knows his stuff. My home is only 3 years old, so I knew we were due to start our cleaning schedule. Come to find out that the fellas whom had installed our dryer, when we moved in, pushed the dryer so far back that they knocked the hose loose and it wasn't fully connected. Norman charged us an extra $45 to fix that. All in all, money well spent. I will be adding Norman to my list of contractors and will see him again next year!

"Thank you for the kind words. To clarify however, the dryer hose was not knocked loose. It was crushed. This significantly reduced your air flow, reduced dryer performance and was creating a fire hazard. Due to the tight space, it took nearly an hour to cut out the crushed section and reattach the remainder. If it hadn't been for your husband's assist, it would have been nigh onto impossible without removing the washing machine. You should be good to go, now. As promised to your husband, I sent you a 1-year reminder."

I felt good about the work that was done. However, I don't feel the tech that came evaluated the work well. He wasn't well equipped. Left a large mess but he did give us 50% back.

Norman cleaned the air ducts, but while doing so, unbeknownst to me, he had to pull out furniture. We had JUST gotten the floors refinished and when he pulled the beds etc out, the floors got scratched. I got home at the point where he was done with the air ducts, but had not moved the furniture back.
It is really obvious in my daughters room. Literally, the week before we had gotten the floors refinished. I'm super disappointed.
The area where he pulled my daughters bed out and there is HUGE scratch on our newly refinished floors. When he was trying to put the furniture back, I helped him, since I was unaware he was going to be moving furniture in the first place. Huge disappointment since the cost to buff out the floors is going to be much more than the service he provided. It was also very apparent on our dining room table area.
However, he was super friendly and helpful. Just did not take great care in moving furniture......and the cost to buff the floors to correct those areas is much more than his service.

Mr. McDonald cleaned out decades of lint, and even birds' nests and mud daubers. Yuck! He even went into the attic and discovered that the vent duct was clogged, so he replaced it. He also made sure it was connected securely, which had been a problem found in the inspection report.
Among the many things which were above and beyond, he refitted the duct between the dryer and wall with the proper vent elbows on both ends, and then he taped it, which I hadn't expected him to do at all. No chance any lint getting through that. He cleaned up after he was done, which I appreciated a lot. Once everything was done, I expected the bill to be much larger than it was, so was very pleasantly surprised at what he presented to me on the invoice. Nice! Best of all, I'm no longer terrified of causing a fire because of improper venting.
Would I call the Allergy Shop again? In a heart beat!

Norman arrived on time and went right to work (after a tour of the house). While performing the duct cleaning service, he found numerous vents that were not attached properly to the ducts; expelling conditioned air into the attic and wall space (and allowing unconditioned air into the house). He repaired these (for a small fee). In addition to cleaning the vents and returns. Norman was insightful in errors I was making with filter selection, provided input on ways to better utilize our HVAC, and was overall professional and helpful.

Norman has done a lot of work for us over the years. We just got our electric bill for this month and it was almost $100 less than this same month last year, with the same average temperature. Norman is a retired Navy man and his work is outstanding. He is a very honest and hardworking man.
While doing the install, he handled getting all of the permits for James Island township. Our township also required that the unit be strapped down so he made sure to do that for us as well at no cost!

Prompt, professional and knowledgeable. Explained what they were doing and why. Arrived early and finished timely. Offered advice on replacing air vents and referrals to local suppliers. Very good overall experience. My only complaint is that the service is somewhat expensive when you have a lot of vents. I would suggest they offer a discount after so many vents.

Norman is a one-of-a-kind...he is an old Navy man with a handlebar mustache and chops, and he never lacks for wpords and conversation! :) At the same time, he's probably one of the best communicators of any home improvement/repair personnel I've ever run across. He is punctual and if running late, he will contact you and let you know it and exacltly when he'll be there (didn't happen but once...). He works around "your" schedule as much as he possibly can and works until the job is done to your and His satisfaction. He is meticulous and persistent and may take a little longer than others, but will do the job right. He also did a great job on educating me about all facets of the HVAC system he installed.
A few of the primary reasons I went with Norman at Allergy Shop are: good price (average), good value (10 year parts AND labor warranty on the system), vent cleaning included with Angie's List member (at the time) and I thought that really added value to the whole thing.
I don't know how the Goodman system will hold up (I've seen both very positive and very negative reviews of Goodman, however, I've also seen similar reviews with Lennox and others), however, having the 10 year warranty (parts and labor) really gives me a little more confidence. We'll see....so far, the system has run well for the last 2 months and I'm happy.
