- Down-payment made for refinishing chairs in February. Check cashed at bank, vendor does not
reply to phone messages, no contact re status or refund.
On February 27, 2013, "The Furniture Doctor", Jason C. Heisley came to our home for re-webbing patio furniture - 5 chairs, 2 swivel chairs and 2 ottomans. He brought a book with the sample materials. (Invoice reflects The Furniture Doctor, PO Box 8502, Columbia, SC 29202 (803)-600-1730 www.thefurnituredr.com. The cost was $570.00 for removing the old webbing and recovering the furniture, and Jason required 50% down to cover he cost of the material.
Mr. Heisley also had other catalogs with him, and indicated he also dealt with high end patio furniture which was sold primarily to hotels. We gave Mr. Heisley a check #2454 for the amount requested $285.00. Mr. Heisley indicated he would order the material and took an ottoman and chair with him to ensure that the material was properly cut (when it came in).
Mr. Heisley cashed the check at SCB&T the next day, and the bank recorded his drivers license number, birthdate, other pertinent information and took a thumbprint on the check.
On March 1, I contacted Mr Heisley and mentioned that the remaining chairs and ottomans had been repainted, and he could come over and pick them up. He promised come over the house and pick them up the next day. He never showed-up or
called.
I tried calling a few times to the phone number on the website 803-600-5225, (it answers, "hello, this is Jason from the Furniture Doctor, please leave your name . . .") and left messages. On March 15, I called and he answered. Jason indicated he had been
sick (although he did not sound ill) and would pick-up the remaining furniture on Sunday, March 17. That was the last time we have made actual contact with Mr. Heisley or the Furniture Doctor.
I have called the 803-600-5225 (from the website and BBB listing) number daily, and at different times to establish contact with Mr. Heisley. (The number on the invoice (803) 600-1730 appears to have been disconnected.) All messages that we left were asking for an update on refinishing the chairs. On 2 occasions, the message did not roll over to a voicemail, but it seemed like someone picked-up the phone, then (realizing who it was), hung up.
As of May 1, 2013, we have not had a response from Mr. Heisley, and/or The Furniture Doctor, he has cashed our check for the material, and also has 2 pieces of furniture. - This report was filed with the Better Business Bureau of the Midlands.
