"This project was a breeze. Hunter communicated when he would be onsite and how long it would take. He was punctual and did exactly what he promised. What impressed me most was how he kept me informed about the project and his total professionalism. I am going to use his services again within the next three to four months. I highly recommend him."

My mother has 20+ years in the telecommunications world and approached me about expanding in the Southeast, I have worked with homeowners and land developers in the areas of earthwork and concrete. My passion is exterior design and functionality. I enjoy working with homeowners to take existing space and make it usable, whether it be creating a family oriented outdoor space or you want to create a space to entertain large groups outdoors, I enjoy it all and will see it that you are satisfied with the final product. We are all wired differently and sometimes it is challenging to visualize what a space could become, I believe in working through the entire process with my customers from constructing the plan to completing the project you can rely on having just one point of contact. I am excited about continuing the family business and growing a new arm of our organization. I look forward to working with you in the Southeast.

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

The best equipment for moving large rocks from your yard depends on their size and weight. A heavy-duty wheelbarrow or a rock dolly can be effective for smaller boulders. A skid-steer loader or a mini-excavator with a grapple attachment provides the necessary power and control for larger, heavier rocks that you can’t lift manually. Professionals may use a larger excavator and ratchet hoist to remove larger boulders.

When it comes to which stone is better, crushed or natural gravel, it all depends on the project. Crushed stone is a great base and filler material for projects like retention walls, concrete slabs, driveways, pipes, and drains. Gravel is a common choice for visually attractive landscaping projects like walkways, above-ground drainage systems, patios, and garden borders.

The depth of your decomposed granite depends on its intended use, but around 3 to 4 inches is the most common depth. Driveways that need to support a lot of weight should be at a depth of no less than 6 inches. Walkways that won’t see a lot of weight but lots of foot traffic should be built at a depth of 3 to 4 inches, and patios should also be between 3 and 4 inches deep.

Yes, you can lay pea gravel directly on the dirt. First, dig a trench 2 to 6 inches deep the length and width of the area you want to cover. Plants and weeds will eventually grow through the pea gravel if you don’t lay down landscaping cloth.

The best way to landscape your front yard on a budget is to invest in hiring a professional for hardscaping—things like upgrading walkways, redoing driveways, and installing partitions around garden beds. You can often do the softscaping yourself—think laying down mulch, caring for your lawn, removing weeds, and planting flowers and shrubs. It’s also almost always worthwhile to pay a professional for routine yard maintenance, as this dramatically improves curb appeal and delivers above 100% ROI in most cases.
