When we first had a meeting with Paul Drewer of Ace Masonry to discuss having pavers installed on our front sidewalk he was very nice and helpful. We picked out the color of the pavers to compliment our house and the price was within our budget. Paul said he always stayed on the job with his crew until it was finished. He delivered the pavers the morning of September 4, 2013 and we didn't see him until he came back for his check.
After the job was finished the crew hosed the pavers off and they looked fine for a day or so. As the pavers dried we could see there were 13-15 that were totally the wrong color. We had a salesman from Lowcountry Pavers look at the pavers and he agreed there were several that needed to be replaced and he was willing to give the correct ones to Paul to have one of his crew install. Paul never called him back.
We started calling Paul a week after the job was done and we have called him daily for a month to come back and correct the problem. There was also some pavers that were stained from having our house power washed and we wanted to discuss having Paul's crew replace these pavers on the porch.  We didn't see Paul, but we believe he did stop by to look at the stained pavers because that is the only time he left a message with the price he would charge to replace these pavers. The gentleman who owns the power washing company is willing to pay Paul, but called him to discuss the charge since he felt it was high, but there again Paul will not call him back.
We now have blue tape on all the pavers that are the wrong color and sent Paul a certified letter of which he will not answer.
This would be such a simple job to correct and make our life so much easier, but we will not call Paul again. We are now looking for someone else to come out and replace the pavers that are the wrong color and if anyone wants to know who did our original pavers we will NOT suggest they call Ace Masonry.
This is sad as we live in Sun City Hilton Head and we believe word of mouth goes a long ways in a community like ours.
The thing that is a real puzzle is WHY Paul will NOT return our phone calls. We have checked with Lowcountry Pavers where he gets his supplies and he is in the area. We even left a message with that company to have him call us back. WOW!! BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE and certainly a bad way to build a business

"This homeowner chose both a 1" paver as well as a 2" and was informed that it was suggested to remove the porch because the 2 differently sizes won't resemble similiar color. She didnt want to spend the extra money."

Tom Rafine from Low Country Pavers came out and admitted a color problem but put the blame on the installer for putting down pavers from two different batches and said it could have happened at the distributor, Taylor Landscape supply.  After several months of a lot of complaining, Paul Drewer sent one of his men out to mix in some appropriately colored pavers.  This man replaced some pavers but that was not enough to satisfy the color difference and he left 175 pavers stacked in my front yard (I still have them by the way).  I sent several emails and made several phone calls to Mr. Drewer but to no avail until I had threatened him with a lawsuit.  My wife also tried to contact him without getting any response.  He completely refuses to correct the problem and has no integrity.
In my opinion, Ace Masonry and Paul Drewer is a company that you should avoid like the plague.

After the pavers were laid, for some reason Paul hosed them off.He then told me that since he could not pour the polymetic sand on the wet pavers, he had to come the following day. He promised me his workman would come early in the morning so he would not interfere with the screening of the porch.  He sent a workman to pour the sand but the man did not do it properly.

When Paul and his men arrived to repour the sand, it was raining. He said that wasn't a problem even though he had told me the day before that he could not put poymetric sand on wet pavers because it would stick to the surface of the pavers.

The sand did stick to the pavers and when I pointed that out, Paul had his workman hose down the pavers multiple times, cleaning the pavers, but washing out much of the sand between the pavers. He kept insisting that he was doing the work correctly even though it was clear that he was not. When I pointed out that he had washed the sand out between the pavers, he promised that he would return in a few weeks, replace the sand and seal the porch.

He has not returned to complete the work and doesn't return my phone calls. Paul comes across as a very pleasant young man, anxious to please. Unfortunately, he lies when it suits his convenience. He did not live up to his promise of a correct and complete job. He did not complete the work. Although he gave us a lifetime guarantee, I assume that it's wothless since he doesn't return calls to schedule the completion of the job.  I would definitely not recommend him or his company.
Response from Drewer Masonry & Concrete
"Never lied went back twice and put in the required amount of sand. This sand is not seen as mortar like you would on brick work, it is supposed to go down in the cracks to keep the pavers from removing. Those pavers have never shifted nor popped in the 4 years they have been done. Absolutly nothing wrong"

At first I thought the mason was a nice young man and I wanted to help him succeed.  He told me he would give me a good price for the work, and if I didn't like the driveway without pavers, he would come back and install pavers. His hired workers seemed to know how to lay the pavers they did put in on the walkway and front porch, although the pavers are now getting holes in them.  I also paid him extra to return and seal the pavers, which he never did.  They still remain unsealed. Insofar as the driveway is concerned, he just didn't know what he was doing; the driveway is a mess, and he has constantly  ignored my complaints.  While he was on the job, he showed a quick temper, and even yelled at me a few times.  He has advertised in the Sun City magazine again this year, and when I saw the ad, called and asked him (or his father, whose photo was in the ad) to return my call.  Nothing.  Unfortunately, I trusted him, and a written contract was never made.  I learned my lesson there.  I 'm sorry to say that I would not advise that Ace Masonry be hired.
Response from Drewer Masonry & Concrete
"She wanted to paint a cracked driveway informed her to remove her that her best option would be to remove and repour. She wanted a quick fix and I informed her that it wasn't advised, but she wanted to spend as little as possible, so thats what you get in return. If you want a job done correctly you need to spend the money."

Overall, it did not go well. When I first met Mr. Drewer, I liked him and thought him to be a nice young man. As noted before, the pavers installed are fine except for the sealing. However, he asked to be paid in full before the work was completed so he could pay the paving laborers. After that (a big mistake on my part) he lost all interest in completing the job. He did a poor job on the driveway, and also put a very thin coat of paint on the back porch floor, not bothering to complete painting the edges. (He did the painting himself.) I will have to have someone come and diamond cut the driveway and re-do it (for another few thousand dollars). Meanwhile, my new driveway is a horrible mess.
