From start to finish the business was unprofessional. In the second property we rented from them, a single-family home, we had numerous incidents in which issues with the property were not properly addressed. There was an instance in which a maintenance man driving an unmarked utility van with no business name on it, who I did not know and whom I was told would be coming at a later date, entered the home with a key provided by Bluffton Realty while I was sleeping (at home, alone, while my husband was at work) after working night shift as a nurse, and nearly gave me a heart attack. We discovered several months after moving in that the smoke detectors in the home (which are not wired to the home's electricity) contained no batteries, which was not brought to our attention when we moved in (we have no problem replacing dead batteries- that's in the lease- but we were unknowingly living in a home with no fire alert system for months). The back yard had a pond which was unsafe and unsanitary which we repeatedly asked the company to either clean or remove, which was never done until we moved out, which they paid for with our security deposit. At move-out at the end of our lease, we were given only about 40% of our deposit back. Additionally, the property manager did not enter the home to inspect it after we moved out until 13 days after we had moved out and turned in the key. We had to call to inquire repeatedly about the security deposit. I have never gotten less than 100% of a security deposit back (and I've rented many properties and own a rental property myself), but my husband and I (both young professionals, and pregnant) received only 40% of ours back from this company after spending countless personal dollars and hours improving the backyard of the property. Most of the security deposit was spent on the back yard, which we left in much better condition than when we moved in. What they did was use our security deposit to pay professionals to have the backyard spruced up after we moved out when they had trouble re-renting the property at the end of our lease. What looked like a jungle with a dirt floor when we moved in and a halfway decent yard with grass when we moved out, now looks like a manicured yard in Pleasantville thanks to our security deposit. I would never recommend this business to anyone I know for any real estate needs- they in no way have your best interest in mind.
