On April 17, 2012, Bobby Marchbanks came to my home to give me an estimate to repair hail damage to my roof. While he was visiting my home I opened my utility door to show him the water damage to the wood on my ceiling from leaking due to hail damage. He assured me that he would replace the damaged wood in my utility room. I asked would he personally be there at my home when the roof was being replaced and he assured me that he would be present. The date of installation was June 8, 2012, and Mr. Marchbanks was not present as he had promised. The workers sent to do the replacements were unable to communicate with me as none of them spoke English very well and obviously were not aware of replacing the rotting wood in the utility room. My total cost of $4240 included an additional $390 to replace the rotting wood and I paid that out of pocket. While the work was being done, I was asked to purchase a panel to cover the area of repair in the utility room. I purchased this panelling in order for the workers to cover new wood once it was replaced. Once the work was complete, I continued to smell a damp, musty odor when I would enter the utility room. I called an electrician, Rodney Smith, with Haywood Electrical Company the latter part of July 2012 to take down the lighting and paneling in the utility room. When the wood was exposed, underneath the paneling, that is when I confirmed that the rotting wood had not been replaced which would explain the ongoing smell. The following day, I called Total Home Exteriors to inform them of my findings and Tim Marchbanks came to my home. When I asked him why the wood was not replaced, he justified that the additional cost was toward the replacement of wood in another area of my home. There was not any other water damaged wood that needed to be replaced nor was I notified of any other damaged wood in my home so the additional $390 was not used to replace the area that I showed to Bobby during his visit for an estimate; an area he promised would be replaced. Tim insists this was not damaged and advised me to leave my utility room door open and use a fan to dry the wood. I have been doing this for 5 years and it has gotten worse. It's like a bad fruit-the smell has gotten worse and small dots of mold have now spread throughout the utility room. Lastly, Tim Marchbanks told me that if I could find someone to verify that the wood was damaged, he would make it right. An inspector from Advance Inspection came to my home on March 7, 2015 to inspect the woodwork in the utility room. The inspector stated, in a written letter, that the wood damaged should have been replaced during the roof replacement.

"We installed a new roof for Mr. & Mrs. [Member Name Removed] in 2012. Shortly after the roof was completed, Mrs. [Member Name Removed] called us back out to look at what she thought was rotten wood in the laundry room. Tim inspected and found the area to be solid-not rotten...just discolored. When we tear a roof off, we inspect all decking and replace areas that are found to be rotten. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] did have rotten wood that we replaced, but not in the laundry room. We have not heard from Mrs. [Member Name Removed] in over 4 years concerning this issue. Our first contact was a certified letter received from her on March 23, 2017, stating that she wanted us to take care of the rotten wood in the laundry room. Tim went out the same day to inspect the issue and told her the same thing-no rotten wood found. She said in her letter that she had a home inspector out in 2015 and the report stated that the wood should have been replaced. We've asked for a copy of that report. We told her that we will be glad to meet with her inspector at the home to go over our findings, but her response was to serve our company with a trespass notice. Our office called Advantage Inspection on April 10, 2017, to see if they were the company that provided an inspection for Mrs. [Member Name Removed]. We were told that there was an inspection done for the Mrs. [Member Name Removed] in February 2015, but not for [Member Information Removed], which is the address we did work at. There is no leak coming from the roof and no rotten wood in this area. The laundry room is a non-insulated, non-heated or cooled area with a concrete floor. The smell could be happening for numerous reasons. We were hired to install a new roof and replace rotten wood found on the roof, which we did. We are so sorry that the [Member Name Removed] have a problem, but there is nothing further we can do for them at this point."

Excellent crew. Cleaned up after themselves. Very nice to my elderly parents who live with us. Good price. Honest!!!!! Tim was great to work with. We had hail damage again last week (one year from the last hail storm) and we've already gotten an estimate from him for this storm's repair. Highly recommend.

The owner came to the house himself to talk to me and give me an estimate. He gave me an accurate timeline for when the work would be completed. He also offered a solution to rain running off the roof onto my back door. No one else I talked to had a solution. The price was reasonable and the work was done well. Plus, he was able to switch my door to a swing-in door. Previously, is was a swing-out.

The owner responded promptly and gave me a rough estimate on the spot. He was able to recommend a simple installation of a rain diverter over the entryway. Neither of the other companies I talked to even mentioned that as a possible solution to the problem. He followed up with a formal typed estimate by email. The work took less than a day. The workers were efficient and cleaned up the work area before they left.

We gave them a call to assess our roof they came out I believe it was the same day I called. Then later that afternoon they called and gave us an estimate of how much it was going to cost to repair. We contacted our insurance company. They came out to do the repairs within two weeks due to my schedule not theirs. They completed the work within two days. They cleaned up everything. Approximately a week later it rained and there was a leak around a valley that Tim had spoken to my husband about. My husband called and he came out that day and fixed the place where there was a leak and we have not had any problems with our roof since.

They had the best price but after replacing the roof we had a bad water leak.  Water poured into the house. They came out timely and fixed the roof but sent the roofers to replace the ceiling where it was damaged.  They were roofers and had never done a ceiling before. They were very nice and did the best they could. Spent the entire day there but the ceiling does not look right.   After 6 months had another leak which they promptly came out and fixed but have not fixed the ceiling inside.
Response from Total Home Exteriors Inc
"We appreciate the feedback and the review, but want to respectfully disagree with the quality and overall grade of C given. When Tim was first called to the property for a roofing estimate, he immediately discovered hail damage that the customer was unaware of. Their insurance company ended up paying to replace the roof. However an insurance company will only replace the roof with the same material that is currently on it. Tim strongly recommended to the homeowners that they install a commercial membrane roof system on a portion of their roof. The technical reason: There is a 1/12 pitched roof that meets a 2/12 pitched roof that had shingles on it originally. Due to the way new shingles seal down, it is no longer recommended to install 30 year architectural shingles on anything below a 4/12 pitch. Mr. [removed member name] wanted to put the roof back the way it was installed originally. After a couple attempts at making the shingles work, we decided to remove them at our expense and install the commercial membrane roof that Tim originally recommended. To our knowledge the roof has not leaked since. There were a few ceiling tiles in the home that were damaged and we replaced them. The problem we ran into is that the tiles in the home are older and are no longer made, but we installed the closest match possible. We were not aware that there were any additional ceiling repairs that had not been taken care of. When we were last at the home, we were told that the homeowner was pleased with the work and have not have not received any contact from them stating otherwise. We strive to provide quality service in every aspect of our work and are willing to complete any repairs that Mr. and Mrs. [removed member name] feel need to be done. Thank you"

I submitted a request on their website for an estimate and got a call the next day to set up an appointment. The man who came out was very thorough in going over our options and explaining the work that needed to be done. We got 3 estimates on the work. THE was not the lowest of the three, but we felt most comfortable with them, based on our interaction with the rep that came out to the house, references from friends, and reviews here on Angie's List.
The roof and siding work were done separately. The roof was done first--the crew showed up at 6:30 a.m. one day (we were given 3 days notice). The crew was huge and they got right to work. They were done by 2:00 p.m. that afternoon, and they cleaned up completely. I didn't find a single nail in the yard afterwards. A couple of weeks later, a much smaller crew showed up to put on the vinyl and replace the gutters. This was a much smaller crew (3 men) and took about a week and a half to complete the entire job, but we were very satisfied with the quality of work and their professionalism. Again, they cleaned up afterwards to our satisfaction.
The entire process went very smoothly, and we were very satisfied with the work that was done.

Everything went well
I noticed a spot on the ceiling in the hall after a recent heavy rain
Tim checked the roof and told me that it was pretty well gone
Considering that it was a 20 roof that had been on at least 25 years, I'm sure he was right
They did a professional looking installation and cleaned all debris before they
left

Removed old shingles, repaired rotten boards, installed 44 squares of new shingles, installed over 200' of new gutters with leaf shields. The shingle project was done in ONE DAY. The clean up was immaculate. I eventually found ONE roofing nail in the front flower bead. Everybody on their team was great. I had a couple of changes from the original estimate which were done without any problem. I would recommend T.H.E. to anyone needing a new roof and/or gutters.
