I am very pleased with the detailed and time spend diagnosing the issue prior to opening any walls/ceilings. Ronnie, the owner came when he promised for an estimate and Larry who performed the work was professional and very detailed. Both men explained what could be possible outcomes and Larry explained what he was doing every step of the way. I would certainly hire them again.

After performing several smaller jobs for me satisfactorily (when you can get him there, the work is good), Mr. Zanella "forgot" to order the shower, and then told me it would be 2 more weeks. After calling 3 weeks later and leaving a message, another week passed before I heard from his office, saying that "he hadn't forgotten me, and would be in touch". This was over 2 months ago. Additionally, he has made no movement on some heating/natural gas work I had intended to get done before the end of the summer.

I thought I had to have it replaced because it seems like it was leaking. He came and he said that he could absolutely replace it but it’s a very good and expensive one, which I wasn’t aware of because the builders that built my house actually put it in. He said that he could check it and fix it. He did. He didn’t have to do that. A lot of companies will just say that I need a new one, charge you for a new one, and take the old one out. He was honest. I think he is very good. He just charged me a service charge. It was more than reasonable. He was here absolutely when he said he would be. He came in next day. They left exactly the way it was when they got here. I would tell friend or family member who needed his services that I would not use anyone else right now. He is very trustworthy and very efficient. I like him very much.

I live in an area of 40 homes that has contacted services with Zanella for new installation. Multiple trucks are always on the street. After two years of living in my new home, I experienced toilet flushing intermittently. Called Zanella Plumbing and set appointment. One of the trucks on street, since they are still working on new houses, stopped by. Told by Zanella plumber that it was flapper issue (took 3 minutes to determine). He did not have part on truck and had to drive to Home Depot to get the flapper. He returned 20 minutes later and installed the flapper in 2 minutes. He then presented me with a bill for $109.62. I was surprised and he called Mr. Ron Zanella. I spoke to him and explained that I lived in the house for only two years. His response was that his work is only covered for one year. I told him the cost of the flapper is about $10. This made no difference. I then told him my surprise really came from the fact that his trucks are on my street constantly and I was of the impression that one of his plumbers was merely responding to my request for an appointment since they are in the area anyway. He did not have to send a truck out specifically for my issue. This did not make a difference with Mr. Zanella. He was rude and abrasive. Although he had every right to take the position he did, I have always believed that good customer service and building meaningful relationships was the best way to sustain a business. Will never use or refer anyone to the company.

Master plumber appeared with helper. Install was quick. Plumber and helper very professional.
I was given a morning window of time but no specific time. Not a problem for me but it would help to obtain an approximate time.
toilet was tested, pipes in basement were tested for leakage at my request. I would recommend the company.

We had been told be another plumber that the enitre shower unit would need to be replace which meant cutting into the drywall at a cost of $800+ not including the drywall repair. When I contacted Ron and explained the situation he offered a simpler less invasive solution at a lower cost. We are very pleased with his work.

Overall experience was a disaster. House was 2-family, approx 860/sq ft per unit. 700sq ft basement w/ all heat plant utilities locaed there. House was purchased as foreclosure and freeze damage was disclosed, but no details. Owner of business quoted over the phone approx. 2 hours w/ 2 men to diagnose location of leaks, pressure test water heaters and boilers as all plumbing located in one section of house. I already knew of multiple burst hot water baseboard pipe bursts, so I knew there were other issues. I needed leaks isolated so I could either fix them myself or hire someone to do it. 2 workers from the business (owner not there, neither was I or any representative of mine) ended up spending 4 hours on-site, installing about 4 ball valves to isolate heating plant appliances, and telling me that there were "some leaks" either in the wall or floor of 2nd floor bathroom, and that 2 new faucet fixtures were needed. Bill for this was $919.09. On the invoice, Zanella Plumbing and Heating stated that testing they performed was not complete and additional labor and costs would be required to be completed. This did not include repair. The total cost of complete repair in their proposal exceeded $6500. I knew already everything they told me, and refused to pay bill, not to mention I was never contacted for permission to continue work/inspection when initial 2 hour time frame was reached. Owner verbally threatened, and used almost all of the 4-letter adjectives I've ever heard, over the phone to me when I told him I thought what he was charging me was unreasonable, and that I would pay only about half of that, even though I thought he deserved maybe only $200--and that was for the ball valve installation. He proceeded to send my account to collections. I responded to the collection agency with my version of what happened. A member of my family not at all related to this situation was also sent a collection letter from the business, but for $975, which was not what I received in my collection letter, which was the actual bill amount of $919.09. The collection agency was contacted regarding the latter attempt at collection and subsequently stopped the collection process against my family member. The owners of the business called my employer several times over the next 6 months (with whom they were an occasional business client of for IT/Computer work), and attempted to have me fired, by threatening that the plumbing company would file BBB complaints against my employer if I were not fired. Further, the plumbing company alleged I was rude and obscene on service calls which I performed at the plumbing corporations office (all of which occurred months before I engage with the plumbing company on a personal basis). I was not fired by my employer and still work for them. Soon after my account went into collections and I told the agency I would not pay, I was sued in Connecticut Superior Court (as my property was located in CT) for $1,257.08. I filed an appearance pro se and filed a counter-claim (CT Docket # KNL-CV-09-5012780-S). In my research of Zanella Plumbing and Heating, Inc., I discovered the corporation was never registered as a foreign or domestic corporation with the office of CT's Secretary of State, which is mandatory if a business is to bring action in a CT court, as well as being granted the right to practice business in the state of CT. The plumbing company stated it was a Connecticut Corporation in it's suit, which was not true. Zanella Plumbing and Heating is only a registered RI corporation. They also sought attorney's fees in addition to the inflated amount sought for in the initial complaint, however, there was never a written contract signed at all. I filed a CUTPA (CT Unfair Trade Practices Act) claim against them in my counter-claim, and separately contacted the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection and State's Attorney's General office regarding the several state statutes that the plumbing company was violating by their unfair trade practices, and defrauding the courts. Just recently, they agreed to settle for $100 payment in full, whereby both parties will withdraw all suits. The complaints filed to the state agencies, however cannot be retracted and I was just notified that the CT Dept. of Consumer Protection has opened an investigation file in regards to this matter. I'm just glad for this 6 month ordeal to be over, and to actually pay only for what was performed. As a follow up, I had an experienced plumber find and fix the "hidden" breaks and replace one of the supposedly "good" water heaters, and bring the plumbing up to code, for $800 (not including material costs, which I bought all myself). I fixed the other breaks that I knew about already myself and only spend about $50 in materials. I had to replace several faucet fixtures and toilet innards, which cost some more money, but relatively very little. All-in-all, a valuable, if not frustrating, learning experience.
