SOS ALARMS

We called Mark Hope at SOS Alarms in September of 2007 to start the process of installing the hardwired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in our multi-family home so that the following summer we would be in compliance with the new codes in Rhode Island. We had hoped to get the project done in a timely manner, and by calling in September we wanted to get the project done by the first of the year, or shortly thereafter. Pricing was pretty decent, though they did jack it up about $300 more than the original estimate, but all in all, I think we paid about what should have been paid for the work completed. After the initial phone call, it took MONTHS to get things going. The basic outline of the process as described to us was that a blueprint of the house would be submitted to the fire department for review, and when the review was complete any changes would be submitted back to the company and the process could move forward. An initial inspection by the electrical inspector was to be completed before any work was done. Another to be completed after all the wires had been run, but before the actual smoke and carbon detectors were installed and a final inspection by both the electrical inspector and the fire inspector when the entire thing was done. We called for months and were told repeatedly that the fire department hadn't sent their review back yet. Finally in FEBRUARY I called the fire chief myself only to be told that they received the inspection a mere week or so before the date that I called. That means it took from October to February for the blueprint to even be SENT to the fire department. The actual work once they got around to it was fantastic. The guys who work there did a great job. They are very polite and we had NO issues with the work, but the 'red tape' was too much for us, and therefore we will not use the company in the future. The rest of the project went *mostly* as scheduled. Instead of finishing up in January as we had hoped they finished up in JUNE 2008. So it took them 9 months to complete the project. Thank goodness we did not start the project when the letters went out from the city that the requirements were going to start being enforced in July, or we would be in some serious trouble with fines!! If you're looking for quality work, but don't have a time frame you need to stick to - then these guys will work out just fine for you. But if you need something done in a timely manner, I suggest looking elsewhere.

THEY WERE VERY GOOD. THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB AND NOBODY HAS BROKE INTO MY HOME SINCE I HAD IT INSTALLED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO PEOPLE. I WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN.
