I called the owner, Steve Schwartz, who told me to begin the two-week training all over again. He also had me perform testing on the system and collar via the telephone, but refused to come out unless I paid him for a "housecall." After her second two-week training my younger dog again ran through the wired border. I called Steve on numerous occasions thereafter. He had me perform the same tests on the system. Again, he refused to come out to our property even after he established that one of the "guaranteed for life" collars was dead, I had to meet him in Warwick to get a replacement.
Ultimately after numerous phone calls and arguments with Steve, he told me that the "system" is only guaranteed if you have K-9 Contain & Train train your dog. Now I can see why he filled us with false promises of being able to train the dogs ourselves ("it's very simple") -- the old "gottcha." I've spent over $2,000 on this system. I had extra wire installed so my dogs could enjoy over two acres of our property without our worrying about their safety and containment. The fence has NEVER worked for my younger dog.
I truly cannot say one positive thing about this company nor its owner. He is a condescending, rude con-artist who I'm sure will be making a "disappearing act" as soon as his business practices are exposed on a larger scale, leaving his customers high and dry with those lifetime guarantees he boasts on his website.
"K-9 Contain & Train Installs the electric dog fence. We offer two packages; one where our company does the containment training and a second (less expensive) option where we do an initial training session and the pet owner is responsible for the containment training success. In April 2012 We installed the electric dog fence and provided an initial training with dogs and owners. We recommend that our experienced trainers do the containment training. We provide a lifetime training guarantee when we do the containment training. This is very important, as a matter of fact the training is THE most important ‘part’ of any containment system. When we do the containment training we guarantee the containment results. This is something we emphasize on our website, and in person. We have worked diligently to resolve [Member name removed]’s concerns through numerous phone calls, free upgrades, follow up training visit. Unfortunately some things are beyond our control. I, personally, called to follow up within the first two weeks and was told the dogs were, “doing great outside in the yard”. During this discussion the owner indicated that she was leaving her two dogs outside during the entire work day. Speaking with her I indicated that leaving the dogs outside, unattended during the day while at work was NOT recommended. Dogs need to have access to water, shelter and periodic supervision- during an extended time outside. From the beginning we have attempted to work with this client through phone consultations, email, additional training session without cost, wiring a second extra acre at no cost, upgrading their equipment at no cost to them and and significantly discounting a second containment collar over 75%. June 2013 -15 months after the install- we received a call from [Member name removed] indicating that she had a collar that did not see to be woking, and that the dogs were “not trained anymore”. We promptly replaced the containment collar in question- without cost. Then we re-sent written training instructions to her and dispatched a trainer out (without cost) to assist her in re-training her dogs. This too, was done without cost, at our expense. When the trainer went to their house he indicated that the dog’s containment collar was not tight enough to even work properly. The collar probes must make contact with the dogs neck- so they were instructed to snug up the collar and keep the containment collar on the dog as well. This is really disappointing for a number of reasons. First, In retrospect if we had been told that the owners goal was to release the dogs for the entire day, unattended, the owners would have been informed that this was not an appropriate use for the electric dog fence. Secondly, This highlights the need for proper and complete training of the dog for the electric dog fence"
