Casey's Chimney & Wood Stove Service
About us
Please call the main number to schedule service. Established in 1973, the Casey family has been keeping Rhode Island families warm and safe from chimney fires longer than any chimney company in the state. Founded by, James and Joyce Casey nearly 40 years ago, the husband and wife team started out as a family owned and operated business with a station wagon, ladder and a few chimney brushes. While Joyce ran the office from home and looked after the children, Jim set his sites on becoming the best in the industry. Jim wasn't happy just cleaning chimney's, he wanted to learn the science behind each working part and mechanism taking classes all over the country. Once Jim knew the anatomy of a chimney he could diagnose various problems customers experienced. Just a few short years into the business, Jim learned there was much more to the chimney business than simply brushing down a chimney. His now highly educated eye picks up on what other chimney company's bypass. Two of Jim and Joyce's children have joined the family company where they are committed to their parent's ethics, values, sense of community, and to never sacrifice safety for the almighty dollar. Decades have passed and seen the company grow from a station wagon to cube trucks which are virtual warehouses on wheels. If you need it, we have it - WE DO IT ALL!

Very thorough inspection and the quote was very reasonable (I have done my own work over the years; I knew what it entailed). Was on site THE NEXT DAY and finished within 6 hours (2 men), including staging. Very neat; very little cleanup on my part (I'm fussy). While the brick mason was working, the other gentleman fixed my front steps (not on the quote), which included pushing in the bricks and new mortar. Both masons wore protective ventilators and handled the work safely (two story home). The owner called me that night as a follow up to be sure I was satisfied with the job - and I was!
He checked the stove over, tightened a screw and then discovered that the air handler was not working properly. He said it could be fixed but it would probably take many hours and suggested I fix it myself because it was pretty simple but it would take him hours to repair, which made NO SENSE AT ALL. He further went on to explain that it could easily be done by unscrewing two screws and "Rigging up a device like a coat hanger to operate it." Yes, his words. It soon became very clear that he didn't want to even attempt to fix the stove. Probably because he didn't know how. He also said "These are really complex."
It cost a $100 for him to come and pretty much do nothing. They should have told me they couldn't fix a Vermont Castings Wood Stove when I called. A complete waste of time and money.
UPDATE 8/18/16: I just called another company referred to me by the manufacturer. They came in, diagnosed the issue, had it all repaired, and were out the door in 15 minutes. I can't fathom why the original guy didn't just fix it if it were truly that simple.
