F G Lees & Son Plumbing & Heating

I've used these guys to clean my boiler for 3 years. I was happy with the work done for the price. Then this year they literally double the fee, by bringing doing the work with two plumbers without telling me instead of one , and changing parts on a working unit so they can charge for it . I've been trying to talk for the past week , they keep avoid my call and saying they will call back. Don't fall for them

It could not have gone worse. We went without hot water for 3 days in the middle of a frigid winter week that involved one holiday. They called me from the plumbing store to tell me the hot water tank was $1,600 for a 40 gallon tank, plus about 2 hours of installation time. I approved that. The 2 men showed up and went to work, after a few hours I checked on them, one was working on the heater, the other was on his phone texting. They said they were almost done. Six hours later they called me down to show me the finished product... they had done extensive copper piping, I commented that it looked pricey and that they had not told me about it, plus it had taken them 6, not 2 hours. They said it shouldn't be too bad. A month later I received a bill for almost $4,000 dollars. I contacted them and told them it needed to be adjusted and was told by the woman that she would talk to the owner and he would do something about it. In the mean time about two weeks later I had to call them back because there was water on the floor. He accused me of opening a valve, which I knew nothing about, nor could I reach. I believe he did not close the valve all the way, and there was dripping going on. He proceeded to clean up the water and installed something that would not allow anyone to turn the valve on. This was the end of 2016. Today, June 10m 2017 I received a bill for that service for $120 which I do not intend to pay and will take them to small claims court for. The owner's son in law has done work at my house a few times and in retrospect I always had to call them back which resulted in an additional fee. I've recently had another plumber in for problems that resulted from the water tank installation not being completed correctly. This new plumber also told me that the hot water tank they installed is $1,200 not $1,600. I've checked this out and found that it is true. They are not master plumbers, they are master rip off artists.

Everything was fine; I've been using F. G. Lees for the past 20 years. There's nothing they can't do.

Couldn't have been worse. They sued after many failures of the system and shut down by the gas company for safety reasons. Have had the system fully replaced by a competent company and now everything works, where it did not before. They do not know what they are doing.

We don't have the bill as yet from them and so we don't know what the price is. The job they did went very well. They're prompt, reliable and responsive. They know the house and so it works out well. They work with us to get the job done. We haven't compared them with anyone else but we have no complaints.

They do a better job than anyone else.

They are very professional and very competent.

We bought a house with a number of plumbing issues, the most serious of which was a shower that had been improperly installed such that there was effectively no trap beneath it, allowing sewage gases to come up through the drain. Fixing it required cutting a hole in the ceiling below the bathroom and re-doing a lot of the pipes. It was a two-day job and it seemed like quite a struggle. Ultimately the problem was solved. I can't really say whether the price was reasonable. The hourly rates weren't outrageous -- the question is whether anyone else could have done the job more efficiently. We also had them install a garbage disposal and faucet in the kitchen sink. Again, both of those jobs seemed to give them a bit of trouble, but that could be because of the original questionable workmanship in the house construction. There was room for improvement in how the services. For example, instead of saying "it should be all right for you to use the bathroom sink overnight as long as you don't use the toilet," they should have said "we strongly advise you not to use anything in that bathroom overnight." (We had a little flood as a result.) Also, they promised us a detailed bill after the job was complete, which we still haven't received 10 days later. And the water heater inspection they gave us seemed a bit cursory and rushed. I plan to get a second opinion on that.

One of the guys on the job was clearly learning on the job, under the supervision of the more experienced plumber. I have no problem with that, as long as I wasn't getting billed for his education.

On the plus side, both guys were friendly, respectful of our house and belongings, and willing to explain to us exactly what was going on in language we could understand. I'm sure they'd be very good at more routine jobs.

It was tricky scheduling a time on the phone. We were disconnected a couple of times. The technician that came to the house was wonderful. He showed me how the boiler worked and offered a few tricks to save energy (but not reduce the gearing comfort) and how to do the majority of the basic maintenance.
He recommended a new part for the radiators that are working nicely.
I never received a bill after the service and then received a late payment notice. There weren't any interest charges, so I let it go.

Overall, because the technician was so nice and helpful, I would consider the company again.

Called, same-day response, diagnosed quickly, plumber went to get part, replaced within an hour.

FG Lees is a well known and busy plumbing service. They are not inexpensive but they have master plumbers who are good with old houses. The office staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The men(no female plumbers?) are great about calling and doing the best for you time wise and with their service and skills. I have used them for many years. They are slow to bill and don't itemize the bills well. I don't know yet what I spent on the work that was done yesterday.

Went great from first phone call to end of serivce. Nice guys and extremely professional.

Gave great advice and taught me how to do most of the basic maintance myself. Had a hard time scheduling a time for someone to come, but the tech that came to the house was FANTASTIC. On time. Thorough. Helpful. Informative.

It is very good. I have been using them for years. They are very reliable.

The plumbers told me they would need to drill through the concrete floor of our existing fireplace to install the gas line. I was later told by another plumber as well as the employees of the place where we'd gotten our gas fireplace unit that they could have easily used the (now non-functioning) ash unit for the gas line. The fireplace store man told me "these guys did 10 times more work than they needed to do to install that gas line." When I called to discuss the matter with F.G. Lee's and Son, the receptionist (whose husband was one of the plumbers at my house!) wouldn't put me through to the manager, and wouldn't even tell me his last name. ("Oh, we never tell anyone David's last name," she said.) When I protested the work by letter and paid a reduced amount on the bill, there was absolutely NO customer service--no willingness to discuss our unhappiness with their work--only one very defensive letter from the manager, written entirely in capital letters, followed by a letter from a lawyer. Needless to say, I was very disgusted with the entire process, and it was because of our experience with F.G.Lees and Son that I eventually signed up for Angie's List.

It went very well. The estimate was at the low end of several. They took a very practical approach and were the only company to identify that I had no emergency shutoff for the boiler. The office was extremely cooperative when I had questions. The work took a day longer than expected and they needed to send an electrician to put in the emergency shutoff on a third day, but there was no change in the charge. We did experience a soldering leak that was taken care of quickly. The workers were very neat and left the basement clean etc.

I called several companies, but FG Lees responded quickly with a reasonable quote, in writing. The repair crew came as promised, did a great job very quickly, and cleaned up after themselves. The garage looks better than it did before the tree hit!

THEY ARE PUNCTUAL, RELIABLE AND DEPENDABLE. THEY WERE HERE ON TIME EVERYDAY. THEIR WORK WAS OF HIGH QUALITY, AND THEY CLEANED UP EVERYTHING BEFORE THEY LEFT EACH DAY.

I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THE PEOPLE AT F G LEE'S AND SON, BECAUSE I THINK THAT THEIR PRICES ARE TOO HIGH. I ALSO FEEL THAT THEIR COSTS ARE NOT DIVIDED EVENLY AMONG THE DIFFERENT SERVICES. THE WORK IS GOOD, SO I RECOMMEND THEM IF YOU WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY.

I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY FOR THE PAST FORTY YEARS. I FEEL THAT THEY ARE A SOLID COMPANY AND HAVE REPUTABLE PLUMBERS. I THINK THE COST IS AVERAGE AND I TRUST THEM.
