"Your the Greatest [Member Name Removed]!!! Such a great customer thank you again for supporting the business!"
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] absolute Pleasure to work with! Thank you for the business!"
"Could not ask for better Customers!!!! Thank you [Member Name Removed] ! It was a pleasure doing business with you, while it was one of the more difficult properties we deal with a little extra time and care goes along way into making the project flawless! We enjoy the no pressure and easy customers that let us do our jobs to their expectations and try to go above and beyond for them,I am greatful you gave us that opportunity to do your project, thank you again!"
We ended up meeting with 6 contractors. Three of the contractors suggested to "slap paint on it. It will be fine" . Two of the contractors recommended tearing out everything- even areas with no damage. Enter AJ Drywall. Joe from AJ suggested EXACTLY what the adjuster recommended. He explained the areas that could be patched and explained the areas that needed to get gutted. He explained the areas with mold risk and the areas that were merely cosmetic.
To us, it was a clear choice since Joe was so knowledgeable. We hired AJ Drywall but had to wait several weeks since they were already committed to other projects.
Joe and his crew arrived at exactly the day and time they promised. Before they started any project, they thoroughly taped and tarped the entire house. It was almost funny at the care they took. They were absolute perfectionists. Joe promised the house would be as clean after they left as it was before.
The entire project took 7 full work days. The size of the crew varied from 2 to 5 people depending upon what was being done. Every single member of the crew was polite, hard working and OBSESSED with protecting the house and furnishings.
At the end of the project , my wife and I studied every part of the work that had been performed. Every bit was perfect. Every drywall repair was seamless. Every paint line was straight. Every ceiling repair was virtually invisible, even the partial patches to textured ceilings. And, as Joe had promised, the house was as neat after they left as when they came.
I 100% recommend AJ Drywall. Joe is a great businessman. He showed when he said he would. He did what he said he would do. He did the exact tasks he promised and he did them well. Joe even communicated well, calling me at work to give daily job updates.
If you have a project that needs to be done right, AJ Drywall is an outstanding choice.
Joe and crew were prompt and very efficient. The finished surface was smooth and took a primer coat of paint very well when we did that several months later.
"Thank you (Member name removed)! Pleasure to do business with you!"
The kitchen was prepped well for them to hang properly. One area seemed very tricky that I was worried about cracking. I had a 10' seam that would join that 1/3 portion of the ceiling I ripped out and the old work existing ceiling. That one part of our prep was not perfectly. It had a minor dip in it towards the center, we braced, jacked and screwed and removed most of the curse but not all. Joe said it shouldn't be a problem and noted a different material he'd use there, said it wasn't likely to crack. I and a more experienced carpenter didn't really believe it, we were wrong. 17 months later it looks great, no crack, the ceiling looks seamless and the soffit they did lines up to the next just like I wanted when I designed and framed it!
The 1/2 bathroom was no cinch either, it's small and under the stairs, the ceiling is stepped to give a bit more height. When adding casing and trim, we had to do some scribing as some areas were a bit uneven, but I can't complain, it looks great and was a tough, tight space to plaster.
We were impressed with the work.
But... I think they're more used to industrial jobs where they don't have to lay down rosin paper or plastic, and have a jobsite dumpster they can use.
I had some paper down in the hallway to protect the newly refinished floor from my own work. The bathroom had a fresh plywood subfloor ready for a mud job as soon as they were done, and the kitchen had an old linoleum floor prepped for vinyl tile. They made a bit of a mess on those, and ground some plaster into my newly finished dining room and hall floors. They even got some plaster on the cabinets and stove and left it for me, along with about an 80lb bag of trash next to my front steps... Awesome! I hired them because I wrecked my spine and can't do the heavy stuff anymore. I had to sensibly split that bag into two proper, heavy construction debris bags (both still too heavy), drag them to the curb and watch a strong sanitation worker struggle to get them on the truck the next week, I'm lucky he took them at all!
The work and promptness were very good. The extra work, cleaning, scrubbing and aggravation set me off. What would it cost to protect work areas with rosin paper and/or plastic? $10 and 10 minutes? Even if you double it, my house is worth it... And take the garbage with you, how can you not have a business plan for the mess?
He would have 3 more bedrooms to do if not for the inconsiderate treatment.
I just joined AL to find someone who can do as good a job and leave only the work behind.
"Thank you [Member Name Removed] for the review, we do however cover all floors and wipe hardwoods when finished , given the fact you had finished the floors before plastering makes our job a little tougher but we still would not intentionally leave crumbs or bits of plaster for a homeowner to clean, also with the trash if there is going to be more than a bag or two we would need a dumpster or discuss disposal arrangements and would not had left a bag of debris without asking you/homeowner first if it was ok as you were a young guy and Cranston does take the trash and you had done most of the gutting and reconstruction yourself I believe we asked and you said no problem put it next to stairs, my apologies if that was an inconvenience we will work on this on future jobs I am happy the adjoining ceiling did not crack and the work was great, again thank you for posting I'm hoping the bedrooms came out well also"
"Thank you for your kind words, it was a pleasure doing business with you!"
in line with other estimates, (though I only honestly looked at one or two others), but liked his personality, and he seemed Fair and honest.
In fact, I was so pleased with the plastering job, that I hired him again to do some repair work on the exterior of the house--in the back. This involved replacing a facachia (spelling?) board because of wood rot, cleaning the gutters, and adding an additional drainage downspout.
And because i was experiencing some water in the unfinished part of the basement, which appeared to be coming from, or in the general area of the bulk head, I had him take a look at the possible source of the problem. After his inspection, he determined that
not only was there some hollowness in the bulk head itself, which might need to be replaced at a later date---cost was a factor for me, so I wanted to put that off....But I either needed to add a cement filling (apron) on the outside of the bulk head, Or fill the bottom (inside) base of the steps leading up to the bulk head with cement. I decided on having them put a dirt apron around the outside
of the bulk head as a quick fix, And pour some cement at the base of the stairs on the inside (leading to the bulkhead) to prevent further, or excessive rain/water damage, particularly a problem at that end of the basement.
After having this done, I have to say my basement, thankfully, has remained Very dry, and has been tested with heavy rainfall on a few occasions since. So, needless to say, I was Very happy with the end results, as one of the sump pumps was also giving me a problem, breaking free of the rod (?) and not pumping the water. Joe also took a quick look at that, tinkered with it a bit, put it back together by tying and clamping it a certain way, then testing it by pouring water over it---And now it is functioning as it should.
