Pete Largess was outstanding. He was extremely punctual and neat. I have lived in North Kingstown my whole life and would not choose any other company to do my tree work.

We had a few false starts due to some scheduling issues, but it was not a big deal. There were some minor miscommunications, but we cleared them up and no harm was done. Matt is a really devoted forest steward and because of that, he'll always be my man for this kind of job. His crew are polite and friendly.

First and foremost Largess's prices are inconsistent and ridiculously overpriced (more than cost shown above). He speaks a good game and is very convincing that he knows what he is doing. However this was not our experience.
Many of the plantings were not done properly and we lost some trees. He did
not give us accurate information about care, and at a much later time we
learned we had watered some too much and others too little. The first tree we lost he replaced with a variety that doesn't match its mate. Another tree was leaning and losing needles, he came 2 times and stamped on it, but it died anyway.
I had to call repeatedly to get him to bring a replacement. When it was finally installed he simply removed the
dead tree and plopped the new one (considerably smaller and less
expensive) in the hole without any additional soil or work so there are
voids in the soil, and the root ball is exposed. I am calling
another service to have the tree planted properly or I imagine it will die again.
I will never do business with Largess again.

I didn't tell them that I had the deal, I just assumed that they knew I did. They came out and I told them what I wanted them to do and he gave me a price. When I told him that I had the deal, he told me that they couldn't do it at that time because there were bees there. He said they would do it in the fall and we set up an appointment within a month. He never showed up and neither did he call me. When I called them eventually, they said I did not have a deal. I assured them that I paid for one and even had a receipt. It took them a long time to come out. Once they came out, the serviceman was very nice. He did a very good job but he claimed that I didn't have the deal. I reminded the owner how he had come out with a young girl. Perhaps they wanted me to contact Angie's List or pull out my invoice. I had to call them at least three times before they could schedule an appointment. It got straightened out but it took a long time before they came out. I also gave them other things to do. I think he wasn't very interested when he found out that I had the deal because he had planned on getting a lot of money from me.

They are actually very good.  They guy was awesome.  They did it all in one day.  There were 10 or 12 people who worked.  The guy was very professional and he was willing to negotiate on the rate.  He knows a lot in his industry and I was impressed by his knowledge about different trees and plants.  He is really knowledgeable about what he does.  He’s easy to get along with and easy to approach.  I got the quote pretty fast and the service was perfect.

When Tom arrived to do the job, a half hour later than his crew who wouldn't start without him, he immediately charged an extra $100 he "forgot" to tell me about. He cited transportation costs. Really??? He did trim trees but didn't grind the stumps as promised.  I reminded him and his crew about the stumps and he told me he would take care of it.  Never happened.
I had to chase him down to come and do the work.  He canceled a few times so I had to make several calls to get a new start date.
The deal was $179 for $400 worth of work.  Tom charged another $100 upon arrival.  I do not feel like we got our money's worth
of service.  I would not use this company again.

I have a huge old tree in my back yard that is the only shade provider.  It had been shedding dead branches even without a wind.  I wanted to check if it was healthy first of all, and then to trim out all the dead wood.  So I didn't want just a tree trimmer...I wanted an arborist.  Matt came out for a consult and happily told me that I had a perfect white oak that was over 100 years old, and it would likely be around for another 100.  That was in late spring which Matt said was not a good time for the work that needed to be done. He and his crew were back in late September to do the trim out.  Because of the location, they could not get a bucket to the tree, which meant they had to rig ropes by which to maneuver in and around the limbs. It was amazing to watch the team work of the crew.  I am very happy with work by Largess and would definitely recommend them.

"Hello [removed member name], Sorry about the miscommunication with the stumps left after the tree removal. The actual removal is one cost, the grinding of the stumps is a separate job. I have a large stump grinding machine. We can do those for $400.00 Let me know if you would like me to come up to do those for you. Tree service work is highly dangerous and very expensive machinery is involved. I feel my service is reasonably priced and professional. Best Regards, Matthew "Twig" Largess"

Initially there were some scheduling issues, however, once they did arrive they were very professional, nice and did a good job.  I would recommend their services to others.

Overall I am happy with the work that Matt performed. However it took approximately 2.5 months from the time that I bought the voucher to when the work was completed. To be fair my issues were not emergenices and could be dealt with at any time. However it was a little frustrating to dealing with dates that slid a couple of times.
Besides that Matt was able to do his job in 2 days. He was professional and knew a lot about horticulture. The job was completed to my satisfaction and he cleaned up afterwords. I would recommend him for any type of tree services.

They came to the house a couple weeks ago to look at the job and give me a price.  At that time I expressed concerns about my lawn. We have a wooded area and a lot of branches had fell in the yard. My neighbor and I decided to split the cost.  We were concerned about more branches falling out of the tree and causing damage.  They said we will have to move the fence to get the truck in and said don't worry they take down fences all the time and it won't be a problem. He said he would not get the truck in my yard. He came last Thursday and said he was going to have to go on the grass. I told him I didn't want my lawn damaged. He said not to worry. They threw everything in the back of my property. All of a sudden I hear a big bang. the tree trunks were falling on to my lawn and causing divets in the yard. Where the truck was has 2 ruts and brown spots. The owner came back in the afternoon and I told him I was not happy. He did not acknowledge my complaint about damage to my property. Now my fence is messed up. He said he would send someone to fix it. I have not heard back. There is also a crack in the cement.  I had just spent money the end of last summer to aerate my lawn and double reseeded it.  I don't appreciate what this provider did. He said he did this job very cheap and did I expect him to stay all day.

"Hello [member name removed], I was disappointed with your review and felt that it was unfair. I was impressed when I met you and your daughter and surprised that we had misunderstandings in our communication. I first looked at your job in the winter, when the ground was frozen and there was no fence. The large Oak tree we were working on was very hazardous and had lost many limbs. It was a large tree and weighed several tons. Tree work is a very dangerous, difficult, highly skilled profession. It is hard to be completely perfect on a property, but we do our best. You decided to do the job in the summer when the lawn was green and the plants were in full bloom. We removed the fence so it would not be broken and brought our aerial lift in, barely making it under the power lines, putting my crew under great danger and stress. We set up the truck in the best location for safety, making sure that no limbs would hit structures or plants down below. Your lawn had minor damage and I came back to patch it up late that afternoon. I reduced the price of the job by $200.00 for any inconvenience, minor repairs, or adjustments to the fence or your lawn. The crack in your concrete I was not aware of and will cover the cost if needed. I have owned Largess Forestry and have worked as an arborist in RI for over 28 years and built my business from a 1 truck outfit to a fleet of 6. My company is nationally recognized and has won many awards for tree preservation and conservation. I am an ISA Certified Arborist, and hold all my jobs to the highest of standards. We are A rated with Angie's List and have many satisfied clients. We will be in contact with your neighbor, who originally hired me for the job, to follow up."

Overall i was very pleased with my experience with Matt and his folks at  Largess Forestry. The only downside was his proximity to my home, and given he had to travel to do the estimate, and then the work, we ran into a few scheduling conflicts. The primary culprit was the poor weather this spring and his resulting backlog of work, but he kept in contact to make sure we rescheduled. I purchased a deal ($179 for $400) and Matt gave me a very fair estimate of what i could do with it, and  ultimately even ground down some stumps and did some extra trimming for free since we had to reschedule. Even without his good faith gesture, i think Matts estimate was fair and the work was completed at a high standard, i will certainly use him again.

One of our neighbors had Largess working at their home when my husband happened to be walking by. The owner of Largess Forestry approached my husband and said the winter was the best time to have trees cut/trimmed. We decided to get an estimate and go forward with the job. I asked to see insurance coverage, which was provided. The owner was not on the job site throughout the job, which surprised me as he knew what work needed to be done, as there were a number of trees involved. The crew that performed the work was professional. Clean up was done, which is an important aspect of the job in my opinion. A few small things I wanted trimmed did not get done, but overall it was an excellent job. The owner is an arborist and knows a great deal about trees.

I wanted this work performed before Easter, and it was. We had four small stumps , two in the backyard and two in the front. His grinder did not ruin my lawn, I believe it took him about 40 minutes or less to complete the work. He was very knowledgeable , professional, and I would definitely us them again. Another great deal from Angie's list.

They came as scheduled and performed the work as requested. They were very careful to clean up the residue from the cutting even with snow on the ground. They were polite and efficient and the sight of the worker climbing up the trees in the winter was a show in itself.

I ordered this service at a Big Deal price, so I can't comment on their regular pricing. The owner asked for $100 more than the deal price. After some difficulty with Mr. Largess concerning when he wanted to do the job, because of winter conditions, he sent his crew to do the work. They were cheerful, efficient, and did a good job. They left the property in very good shape. Highly professional. I would call them again.

This was chosen as a "Big Deal."  I was very pleased with the response and understanding of my time line.  Following a walk-through of what I wanted done, the crew went right to work.  The results are great.  The work itself was excellent and the cleanup was of like quality.  I would recommend this service any day to anyone.

Matt, the owner, came by the previous week and walked the property to see what needed to be done, also gave me a lesson on some of the trees in my yard.  When finished we left it as the crew would be by at a later date to do the work.  They came within the week and did exactly what was expected and more.  Finally got a large tree trimmed the way I wanted it and the tree needed!  Very happy with the job.  I will definitely us Largess Forestry for any additional tree needs I have and highly recommend them to anyone looking for tree service. Matt is very knowledgeable and professional.  If you want a job well done, use Largess Forestry!
