It was better than expected.  He was professional and courteous.  He showed up on time, and there were no surprises.  He was clean.  I dealt locally, and I didn't take the lowest price, and I got more than I bargained for.

P.S.   While Dick Welch lists his company name as Apple Construction Corp - do not be fooled. This name is NOT a corporation and neither this name or his is a registered construction company/business with the Rhode Island Secretary of State.  You only have to check the RI Secretary of State web site to confirm this.

We had several construction professionals review the work he had done and a lot of the work needed to be torn out and redone. In the end Dick Welch, Richard Welch aka Apple Construction appeared to us as very dishonest and someone not to be trusted. It was a loss to us for approx. $50, 000, say nothing of the heartache he caused us. We tried to re-coup some of our losses through legal venues but we discovered that his guy had all of his assests (cash, checking, houses, business, etc.) in his wife's name! We couldn't touch him! I cannot say loudly enough that I would NEVER hire this guy - EVER!

By Sept 2004 we had to ask him to "cease construction work on our property" because of the substandard quality of the work, the slow rate of progress, outright errors, and the lack of close supervision of subcontractor's work. Even worse and more importantly we also discovered that we paid for materials and work that was not delivered and/ or not completed, billed twice for same items, and grossly overcharged. He was quite tricky about how he went about this. After requesting he stop working for us (i.e. he was fired) the subcontractors who we had given him money for materials and work,  sued us because he did not pay them!We had several construction professionals review the work he had done and a lot of the work needed to be torn out and redone. The crew was amazing. The entire house was re-sided in about 4 days (4 very HOT days I might add). In addition to the siding, we asked for assistance with electrical wiring to get outlets on the outside of the house, and this was handled within 2 days. We were even able to pay in installments.

They were also extremely helpful in guiding us towards stonework on the front side of the house. The masons took 3 days of painstaking planning and mounting, and the stonework is amazing. I cannot tell you the number of glowing comments that we have received from people walking through the neighborhood, saying how much they love the stone work.

Being new to Angie's List, it's nice to be able to put in a very good word for a company that we used last year, and hope that the rest of you will consider using them - I know we would!

My house is nearly 100 years old with all original windows. Richard and his assistant replaced all of the windows in my house exactly as we specified and for the exact price specified in two days. They worked quickly and cleaned up after themselves in each room. Apple Construction Corp. provides many other services as well, and I will be calling them for more work in my home soon.
