The builder did a nice creative job designing the space, except for one design error: The prior stairs to the attic had to be replaced, and when they were lengthened to conform to step depth and length requirements, they ended up covering the bottom portion of a window! The builder said we should have known that and it ended up costing us and extra $1000-$1500 to fix and I was the one who came up with the solution. The bathroom and living space came out really nice. The overall design is lovely with lots of windows and dealt creatively with the pre-existing home. The contractor was polite and intelligent and paid a lot of attention to the details, and if we had an issue, it was dealt with. The only reason we rate this contractor "FAIR" overall, is that we were told at the outset in July of 2009 that the job would be completed in two to three months. But the contractor kept taking on other jobs, and we would get put on hold. By October of 2010, most of the job was completed, except for issues with the gutters: They never put a connector between the new gutter and the lower gutter, and so in a heavy rain, the water gushes over the side, and over our gate. I wrote him in September about the gutters, but didn't hear back from him until December. By then, ONE year and FIVE MONTHS after the commencement of the "2-3 month project," the contractor finally responded to my email saying he had been very busy. He wanted to get together to finalize things, but I said don't bother, and I guess I have to find someone else to fix the gutters. Also, I was always concerned with all the cracks that appeared all over the second floor in the plaster where the ceilings meet the walls. He patched most of them and assured me it was nothing to worry about, but I do. I think it happened as a result of them dropping beams when first reinforcing the floor. Otherwise, we love the space and he is a decent man and overall the materials and workmanship were very good quality, but I would warn anyone to make sure you get a commitment for a completion date.
